How to get rid of cockroaches
Insects in the kitchen
Cockroaches and other insects most often occupy the kitchen and all kitchen surfaces, even penetrating the microwave and other appliances. The exception is the refrigerator, that many people write about cockroaches in the refrigerator and how to get them out, but such a rarity, since insects still do not like cold, and the tightness of this unit does not allow anything outsider to enter it. Here is a microwave microwave oven - a completely different matter. The question of how to get rid of cockroaches in microwaves is more relevant, since the door of a microwave cabinet is usually half-covered, and insects can easily enter it.
To get rid of cockroaches, they carry out general cleaning throughout the apartment, as well as:
- use various toxic substances (sprays, smoke bombs, cold fog are able to perfectly remove insects) and traps;
- they constantly make sure that no food crumbs remain on the floor or any other horizontal surface, they put all products in plastic containers, cereals, flour and sugar are stored in reliable packages, better than plastic ones;
- they never leave the sink in the kitchen or bathroom wet (moisture attracts cockroaches, all surfaces must be wiped dry), they repair the plumbing in a timely manner (the current tap can attract insects from neighboring apartments, even if they are not yet observed in their own).
The kitchen should be tidy and clean, no food, unwashed dishes in the sink or a dirty stove, only in this case the question of where the insects come from and how to get rid of them will not arise.
Ineffective methods
Among the methods of how to expel cockroaches from the microwave, there are also absolutely ineffective:
- Household chemicals and odorous herbs. Decoctions or infusions made from odorous herbs or household chemicals with a pungent odor are used. A solution is prepared, cotton pads are moistened in it and thoroughly treated with a microwave oven in order to scare off cockroaches. Pests do not like this smell, but only a few die from it. However, this method can be supplemented with insecticidal microwave treatment. Or you can use it as a preventive measure.
- Ultrasound-based scarers. Fleeing insects from the cockroach family have no sense organs to perceive ultrasound waves. It is not advisable to use such repellents to combat these parasites. Cockroaches in the microwave will not disappear from such devices.
- Magical ways. Some housewives are absolutely sure that you can get rid of cockroaches using a variety of magical rites. But esotericism has nothing to do with pest control. If you put your hopes on such methods of influence for a long time, then the population of cockroaches will fill the entire living space.
To combat running pests, experts recommend combining several means at once.... The primary treatment is carried out with instantaneous agents, and then, to consolidate the result, odorless preparations are used, which are safe for people and pets, but have a prolonged effect.
What means to use
In the fight against cockroaches, conventional mechanical traps, as well as ultrasonic repellents, help. You can make your own trap using a narrow-necked container and sweet syrup or beer. It is enough to pour a little pleasantly smelling liquid on the bottom of the container, as cockroaches will try to get into it, they will hardly be able to get out back. But for fidelity, the edges of the bottle or can on the inside are greased with sunflower oil.
Ultrasonic scarers are considered not only effective, but also safe for children and animals. They can work around the clock, providing protection not only from those insects that already live in the apartment, but also from cockroaches and bedbugs trying to get into the room from neighbors, from the basement or corridor.
If the cockroaches are larger than usual and the traps cannot cope with them, then they use smoke bombs, freeze them or, on the contrary, warm up the room. The main thing in the means used is safety, it is for this reason that traps, checkers and scarers are allowed to be used in rooms where small children and animals live. When using a smoke bomb, you will naturally have to leave the apartment, but apart from the unpleasant smell of smoke remaining after using this tool, no other troubles are observed.
Where are they hiding
Cockroaches are heat-loving insects and at low temperatures (about) they are simply not comfortable living (read more about this here). Where do they live? In most cases, pests live in the layer of thermal insulation, which is located under the skin of the refrigerator.
There are also many different slots in the back of the refrigerator (where the grill is installed) and at the bottom.
In very rare cases, cockroaches can crawl through the rubber pad and live inside the freezer. This applies to old units produced in Soviet times.
Chemicals
Scarers
To expel cockroaches from an apartment, use:
- poison in the form of powder;
- crayons;
- gels;
- sprays;
- call professional disinfectants.
Not all products are safe for animals and children, therefore, when choosing a specific chemistry, they carefully study the packaging and instructions. When buying a poison, they proceed from the size of the living area and the number of cockroaches. So, if there are few insects (2-3 run at night on the table or floor), then they use crayons, gels or loose powdery poisonous agents. They are the safest for the inhabitants of the apartment, they easily cope with a small number of cockroaches, and can be used repeatedly.
Crayons "Mashenka", powders "FAS" and "Clean House" are effective. They draw the surface of the floor along the plinth with crayons, cabinets from the inside and outside, scatter powders around the plumbing, behind the stove in the kitchen, and pour them into all the cracks found. Treatment for cockroaches is also carried out with Global and Dohlox gels. The principle of use is the same. Crayons, gels and powders are safe, economical, easy to use, but if they do not help, use sprays and aerosols such as:
- "Executioner";
- Raptor;
- "Regent";
- "Get";
- "Cucaracha";
- "Karbofos".
They can treat large surfaces, sprayed in the air, the aerosol penetrates into the most secret cracks, expelling cockroaches from there and leading to their death. But, unfortunately, these funds are moderately hazardous, they can and should be used, of course, but it is better to leave the room for 2-3 hours immediately after spraying the agent, as mentioned in the instructions. After returning, the apartment is cleaned and ventilated. If necessary, the treatment is repeated after 1.5-2 weeks.
If there are a lot of cockroaches and conventional products are useless, use professional spray solutions:
- "Sinuzan";
- Sichlorom;
- "Averfos";
- "Ksulat s25";
- "Tetrix".
The listed means are classified as 3-4 hazard class, work with them carefully in a protective mask, glasses and gloves. It is better to entrust the matter to professional exterminators.The processing of an apartment by specialists takes no more than 50 minutes. The result is almost 100%, but it is possible that after 2 weeks re-treatment will be required, since by this time new cockroaches will appear from the larvae.
Professional pest control
What folk remedies can be used and how effective and safe they are compared to chemistry
To get rid of cockroaches, folk methods of struggle are often used, including:
- freezing (in winter, all windows in the apartment are wide open, leaving the room for 1-2 hours, the method is effective only when the outside air temperature drops below 10 degrees);
- sticky tape (you can use regular tape);
- homemade traps;
- essential oils (cockroaches are extremely sensitive to odors, essential oil will serve as a repeller, the agent is applied to all surfaces accessible to cockroaches);
- ammonia (recommended to be applied to surfaces as a repeller);
- borax (boric acid salt is unsafe for insects, it is mixed with boiled yolk or potatoes, forming balls and laying them out in places accessible to cockroaches);
- pyrethrum (powder, created from chamomile inflorescences, is completely safe for animals and humans, but acts on cockroaches as a poisonous agent, used in the same way as boric acid salt);
- vinegar (to treat surfaces on which cockroaches often run, use a 9% solution of acetic acid);
- kerosene and turpentine (these products are unsafe because of the smell, but reliably and permanently get rid of insects in the house).
These folk remedies can be used individually or in combination. Cockroaches cannot stand the smell of mint, geranium and wormwood. The first two plants can be planted in pots and placed in the kitchen and other areas. Flowers will serve as natural insect repellents. Freshly harvested wormwood is tied in bunches and hung in the bathroom, in the kitchen, and a wormwood fence is made at the front door.
Ineffective methods
There are a number of ineffective methods that you often hear about on the internet. This includes the use of various improvised repellents, ultrasonic repellents, as well as magic and conspiracies. Let's consider them separately:
- Herbs and household chemicals
The essence of the method is simple - take any substance with a strong odor and process it in the microwave by analogy with insecticides. It can be herbal tinctures and decoctions, household chemicals and even cheap perfumes. In fairness, it should be noted that this method really helps to scare off cockroaches, which do not tolerate strong odors. But it is impossible to kill insects in this way - only a few individuals die, who were not lucky enough to get under a stream of turpentine or denatured alcohol. You can use this method in combination with insecticides, or to prevent the appearance of insects in the apartment.
Cockroaches do not have sensory organs capable of receiving ultrasound, so it does not work. Without exception, all ultrasonic cockroach repellents are 100% dummy. Only mosquito and rat repellents have proven results.
Believing in magic, Hogwarts and Santa Claus is a personal matter, but conspiracies and rituals do not help against cockroaches. If you seriously want to get rid of parasites, then you should stop whispering spells and go to the store for a small "Mashenka".
Now you know what to do if there are cockroaches in the microwave. Use proven pest control methods - they will help you quickly and reliably deal with parasites.
How to prevent reappearance
Insect poison
To prevent the further appearance of cockroaches in the apartment, it is enough to maintain perfect cleanliness. But this method is only good if the neighbors do not have insects.Otherwise, all precautions may be useless. To protect your own home, it is recommended to cooperate with neighbors and together poison insects on the floor, in the basement or in the entrance.
If cockroaches appear regularly, then it will be necessary not only to invite exterminators, but also to make repairs in the apartment, including replacing old floors, sealing cracks, pasting walls with new wallpaper and changing old plumbing fixtures. Usually cockroaches hide under old wallpaper, in the cracks near the pipes, in the holes that are in the leaky parquet floor. After repair, insects will disappear for a long time, and if you keep the room clean, then forever.
Testimonials
Natalia, Astrakhan: “I could not get rid of cockroaches for a very long time, and the recommended Diclofos and Raptor also did not help. A friend advised the professional remedy "Sinuzan". It was used in her entrance by exterminators about three years ago. The cockroaches disappeared and did not appear. I didn't really hope for the effect, but the tool justifies its price. Six months have passed since the last treatment and not a single insect. "
Daria, Kaliningrad: “She saved herself from insects using my grandmother's methods - wormwood, mint, geranium, various honey and jam traps, sticky tapes. But after moving to a new apartment, I realized that something stronger and more modern was needed. Our neighbors are not the most prosperous, although the entrance is clean, so a lot of cockroaches came running from them. Even the fact that the house is new does not help. I bought several aerosols of the Diclofos type, I don’t know which one exactly helped, because I processed it 3-4 times, but I don’t see cockroaches. It is a pity that I had not previously thought to purchase such a product.
If cockroaches start running around the house, this is always bad, since they are carriers of infection. Getting rid of insects is not easy, but possible. There are many quick ways to deal with them. Removing cockroaches can be entrusted to professionals or come up with an effective method of getting rid of them yourself. Most often, the withdrawal of insects is accompanied by the use of sprays, traps, pencils and poison gels. The main condition for their use is safety for people.
