Vespiary
Sometimes uninvited guests settle right on the balcony. This becomes dangerous, because it becomes almost impossible to get out into the fresh air, at least one individual will bite. They bite everyone nearby - adults, animals, children.
If arthropods appear on the balcony often, then their house is somewhere nearby. It is important to remove it.
Taking a house in hand is not the best idea. Arthropods will immediately attack humans. They defend their home to the last, are not afraid of anything, and will sting indiscriminately. A person can die from numerous bites.
Usually arthropods settle on the balcony before the onset of cold weather. The female finds shelter under old things, where she and her offspring can overwinter. In the spring, she begins to build a nest. If you do not pay attention, it will become difficult to get rid of them, because their number is constantly increasing, as is the risk of being bitten.
Nest detection
Single encounters on the balcony with a wasp do not pose a particular danger, provided that a person is not allergic to the bites of these insects. The alarm must be beaten when situations are repeated with enviable frequency and regularity. This is a clear sign that there is a nest nearby. It is unlikely that the wasps will calmly react to the close presence of people; protection from encroachments on their own, from their point of view, territory will be a normal reaction.
Therefore, in order to restore the ability to use the balcony without the risk of being bitten by a wasp, it is necessary to immediately take measures to detect the nest and bring out the intruders in any convenient way. The sooner measures are taken to remove wasps, the easier it is to carry out what was conceived and the less likely it is that stinging insects will return to the balcony they like.
Comment! The primary colonization of the balcony by wasps can begin in the fall, when the female finds a secluded place for wintering. With the arrival of heat in the spring, the nest building process is actively launched. And here it is important not to miss the moment.
It is not necessary to expect that the nest of wasps will be directly in the field of view of the owners of the balcony. It's like a lottery, whoever gets lucky. If you did not succeed in immediately finding the habitat of the stinging insects, you should not despair. A careful examination of the loggia or balcony inside and out will give a positive search result. Nest construction sites familiar to wasps:
- inside under the ceiling;
- outside under the visor;
- the gap between the window sill and the wall;
- between the balcony cladding and the wall;
- in drain pipes;
- subject to the accumulation of a large number of unnecessary things - among the undisturbed trash.
If at the first attempt to find a nest of wasps on the balcony, it is enough to take a wait-and-see attitude. After half an hour, by observation, it will be possible to understand which place the insects have chosen. Find the dwelling located outside, it will turn out from the window.
To breed stinging wasps, you need to clearly understand what we are looking for. The size of a wasp nest largely depends on its age; usually it is a grayish cast in the form of a hemisphere or cone, dotted with honeycombs. Examples of different configurations are shown in the photo:
Searching in a pile of trash should be carried out with extreme caution so as not to be suddenly attacked.
Where do they usually live
Pay attention to:
- inside ceiling;
- cornice;
- pipe for the withdrawal of precipitation;
- windowsill;
- between walls and cladding;
- among the items on the balcony.
There are many places, but the nest is large, so it is easy to find it. Just sit on the balcony for a few minutes and you will see that insects fly away to a certain place. There is a nest.
Advice! If you can't find a house, look outside the balcony.
You need to be careful with paneling and objects on the balcony if you start touching them, if there is a risk of being stung. Search carefully so you don't run into it.
Wasp nest
The shape of the nest is similar to that of a paper cone. The color of the house is gray. You need to search on the ceiling or various surfaces. Honeycombs are visible from the nest. It is well hidden inside the pipes, but you can see how the pests fly towards it.
So, the nest has been found. We begin extermination. The house needs to be completely destroyed, you just won't be able to remove it, dangerous insects will begin to bite you. With so many individuals, it is life-threatening.
Note! It will not work just to drive out the pests with a newspaper or a stick, they will defend the nest. We'll have to get rid of insects.
Eliminating wasps
How to get rid of wasps if the usual smoke treatment does not help, and pests fly back to their favorite place? It is necessary to monitor the behavior of the wasps. They will randomly fly on the balcony or constantly move in one place. All cluttered places are carefully reviewed - empty boxes and boxes, boards. Sweet and other food attractive to insects is removed. These areas must be well treated with a potent scent agent. For this, whiteness, deactin, vinegar are suitable.
Getting wasps to leave their homes is not easy. Even after several household treatments, insects will stubbornly return to their habitat. Complete clogging of the balcony is also not a way out. This will cause heaps of wasps to swarm around the window.
It is much more difficult to deal with wasps on the balcony if the nest is located behind the casing. But not every person can remove insect dwellings if it is in a conspicuous place. It is not known how pests can behave. Ruining a home can lead to insects getting angry and stinging. And even if the nest was thrown from the balcony, they can easily fly back and build a new shelter.
Poisoning
An effective but long-lasting way. It will take several weeks, maybe a month. To begin with, we take a plastic bottle and ripen the holes in it. Pour some honey into the feeder to lure the bees. Add some boric acid. Stir.
Arthropods sleep at night and you can set a trap. Place it next to the nest.
If a week has passed, the poison is eaten, but you still see live wasps, add more honey and boric acid. The latter is very toxic to insects. Usually, after a couple of weeks, all the wasps disappear, including the uterus, which they feed with poisoned food. Suitable if insects have settled in the attic.
How do wasps get into the room?
How do insects get into the room, and how to scare off wasps? This question is asked by many gardeners and summer residents. Basically, wasps prefer to build nests in attics, roofs and balconies, where it is always warm enough and some kind of food is present. There are many known cases when wasps are located in apartments where people live and work. Starting in the spring in search of a calm and quiet place for a nest, the female can fly into the room through an open door, window or window and start winding her corner. After that, she begins to lay eggs, feeding on crumbs from the table, flies and other insects. After 1 month, a brood appears, and the family of wasps becomes large and strong enough, causing a lot of trouble with their presence.
Burn the nest
This method is fire hazardous, since the nest will burn strongly.Please note that the method will only work if the bee's dwelling is far from other fire-hazardous things.
Burn the nest
We take a bottle and fill it with kerosene. We close the lid. On the last one we make small holes. A wasp nest is similar in composition to paper, just as flammable. We spray it with the composition and set it on fire.
Other folk ways
The methods for getting rid of the nest will depend on its location. If the hive is located in a convenient and open place, then it will not be difficult to remove it. It is advisable to throw out the wasp hive, which was found in old things, along with them. If the property needs to be preserved, then you can use the following methods:
- Strong smell. Wasps are very sensitive to strong odors and cannot tolerate essential oils or vinegar. Having processed objects and walls on the balcony, you can completely scare off the wasps. It is advisable to use this option simultaneously with other methods, since this will require long-term use.
- At a known location, construction foam is often used, all cracks are blown out into it. So the insects that were in the hive at that time cannot fly out, and those outside - get into the nest. In order for the wasp family to disintegrate, it is necessary to kill the uterus, which appears outside only in emergency situations. Worker wasps live for about one month. If there are no eggs, then the honeycomb will not be built over a new one.
Drown your nest in water
Safe and fast way, but skill is required. It is important that the dwelling hangs, we will put a bucket on it. If the house is on the wall, the method will not work.
We take a bucket and fill it with water to the top. We are waiting for the night to come. We leave on the balcony. We put the bucket on the nest so that there is no free space between the edges and the ceiling. The house will be completely submerged in the water. We hold the bucket in this way for several hours, prop it up with something, for example, a stepladder.
Hit the bucket before removing it. If the buzzing of insects is not heard, they are killed. You can remove the water. The method is effective in any place, and against any insects, but only for hanging nests.
Location of the socket
Wasps are attracted to structures made of wood, since insects receive the required building material from them. They scrape off the top layer of the tree, chew with their powerful jaws, and get a viscous sticky substance that is used to create honeycombs, as well as the inside and outside of the hive. Insects can also easily start in ready-made wooden structures - under the floor, holes in the wall.
In appearance, the hive looks like a sphere with a hole at the bottom that acts as an entrance. Taking into account the increase in the number of insects, it also grows in size. The middle nest is no larger than a peach. The most common locations for wasp hives are:
- from the outside under the balcony;
- in the floor;
- in decorative paneling;
- under the cornice;
- in pipes for draining rainwater;
- among various trash.
If you can't see a hornet's nest, you need to look at the behavior of the wasps. Sit on the balcony for about 20 minutes in the afternoon, determine the trajectory of the pests. During the day, they actively fly out of the hives, doing their main job. Having determined where insects fly, you can carefully examine this area. Now you just need to choose how to scare off the wasps on the balcony.
Insecticides
The most common method, but quite laborious.
Wasp control products
You need to do the following:
- Take a strong plastic bag and add the wasp repellent to it.
- We are waiting for the night. We put the package on the nest. We wrap the bag with tape, it will not allow the wasps to fly away.
- Wait a few hours for them to die.
There are many types of insecticides. And most of them will work against wasps.
Before removing the package, check if there are any live wasps left. Just knock on the house with a stick.
Prevention measures
Wasps on the balcony are rather unpleasant neighbors. Those who have already fought with them once have already become convinced that it is better to take measures in advance to avoid such a neighborhood. Therefore, do not wait until they settle on your balcony, but do something now. You can, for example, remove all unnecessary things from the balcony, and treat old furniture from time to time with detergents - wasps will not settle in clean places with the smell of chemistry. Tightly seal all the cracks on the balcony with mortar or putty so that the wasps would not have the opportunity to penetrate the secret corner and establish their home there. Flower pots with soil can also be a place for hornets' nests, so you need to get rid of them too - at least from the soil, which is still not used in any way.
Safety regulations
Whichever method is chosen, the event cannot be called safe. Insects will protect the house to the last and can bite a person. Protection is important.
We do the following:
- We put on closed clothes, protection on the face, hands.
- We do everything at night when the wasps are sleeping.
- We are preparing the way of retreat in advance.
- We react quickly, until the insects come to their senses.
- If the wasps attacked a person, you need to quickly run away and close the door behind you. After half an hour, the individuals will calm down, you can try again.
Insect Killing Precautions
If it turned out to be difficult to fix the problem on your own, you can always call specialists. A special team for a reasonable fee will get rid of not only wasps, but also other pests.
Multiple stinging bites can be fatal. That is why it is so important to take care of safety measures when getting rid of adversity. The procedures should be carried out in a protective suit, wearing gloves and a mask. The best time for them is at night, when insects have trouble seeing and sleeping. Everything needs to be done quickly, until they have time to understand what is happening. The door to the apartment should be open so that there is somewhere to hide if something goes wrong. If there is a force majeure, you need to go as far as possible until the insects calm down. After a while, you can try again.
If only one wasp is seen on the balcony, do not worry: most likely, this is an isolated case. It is best to catch the insect and release it outside. You can take a glass jar, cover the wasp with it on a glass or wall, place a flat object and remove it already outside the window.
Seeing that the wasps have made a nest on the balcony, many people panic. Although the problem is serious, it can be solved in a short time if you make an effort.
Other methods of disposal
The nest is a real problem, insects eat up supplies on the balcony and bite painfully. Also, individuals are a source of disease.
Advice! Wasps live in families. If a group of pests is found under the window, then there is a nest nearby.
Try the following:
- Chemical agent. Wasps are well eliminated with poisons. You can buy them in special stores. We apply the drug directly to their house, the wasps themselves will distribute the toxin, passing it on to the uterus and relatives. All wasps will get sick.
- Polyurethane foam. Try to cover the individuals inside the nest with foam, which is used for windows. Wasps will be trapped. When the insects die, take the nest and throw it away.
You can get rid of pests with improvised means, it is not necessary to resort to chemistry. Try sugar. Just fill the bottle one third full with liquid and add sugar. Stir to melt the sweetness. We hang the bottle on the balcony. The water will start attracting insects.
In the bottle itself, we make holes the size of a cigarette. We make them slightly higher than the syrup level. Wasps will fly into a makeshift trap, but they won't be able to get out.
Scaring off wasps outdoors
The list of means of how to scare off wasps in nature and in the open air is quite extensive. From it, you can choose the appropriate method for a specific situation.
Smoke
By observing the changes in the behavior of flying insects after lighting a fire, one can find an answer to the question of whether wasps are afraid of smoke. From its appearance, they disappear, because they do not tolerate its pungent smell.
How is this applied in practice? An outdated method is to fumigate rooms when lighting a portable stove. But today it is not used due to the risk of fire and the need to ventilate the building for a long time. In addition, the smell eats into wood, furniture and fabrics, so fumigation can only be used in non-residential brick buildings.
But on a picnic or similar, kindling a fire will scare off the wasps, and you can rest easy. The effect will be enhanced by the addition of spruce or pine wood and needles to the firewood: when burning, they emit strong-smelling substances, the aroma of which the wasps cannot stand.
Water
Many are interested in whether wasps are afraid of water, because the liquid is always at hand. All flying insects do not like drops of moisture falling on their wings, because they interfere with their flight. For this reason, it is almost impossible to see wasps in rainy weather: they hide in their hive or in other secluded corners. Therefore, if during bathing they appear near a person, you can try to splash water on them. Spraying from a spray bottle, if it is at hand, will also have a short-term effect on the enemy.
But water in the fight against wasps is mainly used to destroy hives located near the ground. You can pick up a bucket or other similar container, the diameter of which exceeds the size of the nest, and put it on it from below for 5-10 minutes. The hole in the aspen house is located at the bottom, so the inhabitants, with quick actions, will not have time to get out. When water fills the hive from the inside, its inhabitants will begin to die. After that, you can separate the nest from the surface to which it is attached and destroy. The attachment point is treated with an insecticidal solution or potassium permanganate.
Before approaching the wasp nest, you need to protect yourself: put on tight clothing so that there are no exposed skin areas, including gloves and a mosquito mask.
Another way to use water against wasps is by knocking the nest into a bucket of boiling water. So the death of insects occurs much faster.
Plants
There are also flowers and herbs that repel wasps. These plants are well known to everyone:
- mint and lemon balm;
- basil;
- wormwood;
- different types of geraniums.
Their smell from wasps has an effect because they contain strong-smelling substances, primarily essential oils. For a person, they are either pleasant or neutral. But the insect will most likely prefer to fly around the garden with such plantings on its side.
Plants against wasps will also bring other benefits: mint and lemon balm make wonderful teas with a calming effect, geraniums are a popular decoration of flower beds and balconies, and basil is added as a spice to various dishes.
Little-known plants that scare off wasps include common harmala. Its insecticidal properties are especially noticeable if a bunch of grass is set on fire. If you throw it into a fire, then insects will not be afraid. True, this plant can be found mainly in the hot steppes in the east of Europe and Central Asia.
Chemical substances
What other smell scares off wasps? These dangerous insects do not like liquid combustible materials: gasoline, kerosene, diesel fuel and solvent. The pronounced "aroma" of these chemicals is not pleasant to a person, moreover, it can cause toxic poisoning of the body. Therefore, they can be used as a deterrent only for spraying nests on the street or in non-residential premises (garages).
It is highly likely that the swarm will not want to coexist with the smell and will go in search of a better place. Most individuals may even die when poisonous vapors enter the body through the respiratory system.
To drive the wasps out of the nest with gasoline, kerosene or solvent, you need to adhere to the following action plan:
- Take a suitable container with a spray bottle and fill it with flammable liquid.
- Spray the hive from below so that more of the substance falls on the lower part around the hole: this will make it easier for unpleasant-smelling vapors to get inside the nest.
- Move back to a safe distance and wait for the wasps to start leaving their home.
- If the insects do not fly out, then too little liquid has been used. The procedure can be repeated.
- When the nest becomes free, it is removed and burned.
It is important not to forget about fire safety. Due to the risk of fire, combustible materials are strongly discouraged for treating nests in wooden buildings.
When burning a nest, you should also be careful: due to impregnation, it will quickly flare up, so the destruction is carried out in an open space. It is better to have a supply of water or sand on hand to put out the fire in an emergency.
Ultrasound
Immediately after receiving a positive answer to the question whether wasps are afraid of ultrasound, various companies began to produce ultrasonic scarers. They can be used both in the house and in the garden. Ultrasonic waves are safe for humans, while wasps will not dare to approach their source.
But there is also a downside: ultrasound will drive away beneficial insects. Some scientists believe that small animals, including cats and dogs, also experience discomfort from it.
Soap
Also an effective way. We take the same bottle and pour water into it. Add liquid soap. We make holes on the lid. Shake the mixture to dissolve the soap. Spray the nest and the area around it. The soap will get on the insect, it will begin to lick it off and die.
Note! If the wasps begin to die rapidly, the survivors may get scared and leave your home forever.
Why is it necessary to scare off wasps?
If there are not very many insects, you can scare them away. To do this, in the country, where nests are most likely to appear, they hang their dummies - the wasps will not settle where there are already competitors. You can buy ready-made, or you can simply fill a paper bag with cellophane bags. Lemon and cloves are also used to scare away. Cut the lemon in half and stick clove buds into it.
Many rely on the fact that in the end it is possible to conclude an "alliance" with annoying insects and achieve peaceful coexistence, but the final picture is completely different:
- Wasps have a detrimental effect on crops, destroying raspberries, gooseberries, pears and grapes. Insects eat berries whole, and in larger fruits they eat out tunnels, in which several individuals can accommodate at once.
- In addition to destroying crops, wasps can harm health or even human life. It is known that an insect bite can cause a fairly strong allergic reaction, the untimely treatment of which provokes anaphylactic shock and other unpleasant consequences.
- Wasps are carriers of infection, getting food not only in gardens and vegetable gardens, but also in garbage dumps, which is dangerous to health and can lead to various kinds of intestinal diseases and disorders.
These reasons are enough to agree that wasps are more often pests than peaceful insects.
Wasps versus hornets
Hornets will help drive pests out of the balcony. The latter catch wasps and feed them to their larvae. The method is not common for the balcony, because hornets are also dangerous insects. Try to apply the method in the country.
If you've destroyed the nest and chased the wasps away, don't relax.They can come back. A good way to avoid the reappearance of pests is a mosquito net. Try to cover the entire balcony, then insects cannot fly inside. But you should be careful, pests can penetrate through various small cracks.
Safety rules for contact with wasps
- If a wasp starts circling nearby, do not panic and scare it away. Waving your arms and jerking your arms is more likely to lead to a painful bite than to scare away an insect.
- At the dacha or country house, it is necessary to change clothes more often and avoid excessive sweating. Drops of sweat and moisture on the body are very attractive to wasps.
- Any drinks, sweets, fruits, vegetables and other food on a picnic or country table must be tightly closed.
- Walking barefoot and looking at old trees is a guarantee of an indispensable meeting with wasps.
Physical aids
You need to find out why the insects settled on the balcony. They like dry rooms with good ventilation. If the reason is sweet preservation, find another place.
If an empty dwelling is found, it means that something scared the wasps, and they flew away. But rest assured, pests are close.
Try this physical method:
- we put on a suit for protection;
- put a garbage bag over the nest. We wrap the entrance with tape and tear it off from the mount;
- then we burn the bag inside the metal barrel.
Another way:
- We put a bucket of boiling water under the nest.
- Carefully knock down the wasp nest with a stick.
- The house will fall into hot water, all insects will die.
A good way is to apply good glue to the entrance to the nest. The wasps will stick and, as a result, themselves will close the exit from the nest. Individuals will die of hunger.
Getting rid of the visible hive
Getting rid of a wasp hive, if it is located at an accessible distance, can be quite quick and easy. It is necessary to act at night, when the insects are practically inactive, everyone arrives at the nest for the night or early in the morning, when they have not yet flown out. Using any method will require caution, mistakes will lead to an attack on the entire swarm of wasps. You need to use a beekeeper's suit or hat, or clothing that pests cannot pierce with their sting.
To scare off the wasps from the balcony, if the hive is hanging below, you can use boiled water. At least one bucket of boiling water will be needed. You need to carefully sneak up and pour out the liquid. If required, the procedure must be repeated 2-3 times. After a few days, the hive is calmly removed and destroyed by any available method.
The next liquid method involves the use of cold or hot water. You can get rid of wasps on the balcony using this method if it is not difficult to get to the hive. A stepladder is often required. Water is poured into a bucket, brought to the aspen house, carefully immersed in liquid. This blocks the entrance, since it is located at the bottom of the socket. You need to hold the bucket for at least half an hour. During this time, the entire swarm perishes. Then the hive is carefully removed and destroyed.
The poison bag is the most convenient method to get rid of wasps. Any insecticide is sprayed, optionally with a high poisonous content, you can use a regular spray. To destroy insects, a minimum dose of a poisonous substance is required. Several injections of the drug are made, after which the package is firmly closed. Next, you need to throw it over the hive, fix it with tape at the top. This should be done at night. Lack of air already negatively affects the wasps' organism, and the presence of poison guarantees quick death. For a full guarantee, you can leave the package for several days.
You can remove the wasp hive on the balcony with a vacuum cleaner. The tube is placed at the entrance and the device is turned on at full power. After half an hour, the hive is removed, the bag is taken out of the device and immersed in water for 20 minutes. Humanists let the wasps go away from their homes.
You can put a spiral used against mosquitoes on the balcony near the hive every evening. After it is set on fire, an insecticide is released at the same time as the smoke. The spiral burns for about 3 hours. The smoke forces the wasps to leave their home, since during inhalation the poison enters the body.
Extreme people use another radical method, but this option is only suitable if the nest with wasps is on a non-combustible surface. A flammable substance, such as gasoline, is added to a container with a spray. With the onset of dusk, they spray the hive and throw a match. The nest will burn out within a few minutes. You just need to play it safe and fill it with water at the end.
Humane method
If you feel sorry for the wasps, do the following:
- Place a tight bag over the nest.
- Detach it from the surface.
- Move the nest far from your home, preferably several kilometers away.
- Unpin the package there.
Vespiary
The last method must be performed with good protection, because they will immediately begin to attack the person who disturbed them.
Safety and preventive measures
Many will agree that getting rid of a wasp nest is a rather dangerous and laborious occupation. In order not to be at risk and not be attacked by wasps, the whole process must be done:
- with the onset of dusk;
- wearing the most dense clothing;
- very quickly so that insects cannot react to the invasion;
- with an open door through which you can escape when attacking.
The main thing is not to forget that if something starts to happen not according to plan, you need to immediately leave the balcony, tightly closing the door. You can repeat the procedure no less than 2 hours later, when the wasps calm down.
But preventing such an attack is much easier than getting rid of it.... Therefore, experts advise to follow simple preventive measures:
- Seal all gaps between the wall and the cladding hermetically.
- Make sure that a lot of unnecessary things do not accumulate on the balcony. The trash mountain is the favorite place for insects to build a hive.
- Periodically, you need to inspect the un-glazed balcony for the presence of wasps.
- From the outside, a strong and thin mesh must be installed on the drain pipes.
Such simple measures will almost negate any possibility of settling unpleasant neighbors on the balcony or loggia.
If there is no desire to get rid of insects on your own, then you can always use the services of specialists to solve such a problem, which literally within half an hour will help to permanently remove not only wasps, but also other unwanted insects in the apartment, and in particular on the balcony.
Wasp insecticides
To destroy or scare away wasps in the country, you can use various chemical agents.
The nests are treated with the preparations Moskitol - protection against wasps, Troapsil, Prima, Dichlorvos. Processing is carried out early in the morning or at night. After two days, the insects die or fly away. For aerosol treatment, a rag is wound around the tube to block the entrance to the nest. Then the tube is inserted into the nest, the rag is pressed against the entrance so that the insects do not scatter, the drug is injected.
There are also preparations with chlorpyrifos microcapsules. Such insecticides are used to treat places where wasps accumulate or make baits using them. The capsules stick to the legs and abdomen of the insect, and it carries them into the nest. These drugs include "Get insect killer", "Empire20", "Smelnet", "Ksulat-C25".
You can spray the nests with insecticides used against pests of the garden and vegetable garden: "Sipaz", "Tsimbush", "Actellik", "Karbofos".
The nest is treated with insecticidal dust such as Sevin 5 Garden Dust. Crawling along the hive, insects will carry poison inside and die.
If the nest is in an inaccessible place, for example, in a pipe or under a slate, then all the holes through which the wasps fly in and out must be treated with an insecticidal aerosol, and then plugged with rags soaked in Fufanol or Sipaz preparations. On top of the hole you need to plaster. You should not use polyurethane foam - the wasps gnaw through it. You can add "Karbofos" to the plaster.
Most modern insecticides successfully kill wasps. It is important to consider only some of the nuances.First, make sure that the poisoned baits do not attract too much harmless pollinating insects and your pets. Secondly, it is necessary to destroy not only the adult wasps, but also the larvae and the uterus, which can be difficult, because wasps love to build their dwellings in hard-to-reach places.
The preparations used for traps, for all their toxicity, do not have a strong odor and are available in various versions, for example, in the form of powders, gels or insect glue. Preparations for the destruction of wasps in the nest, as a rule, are produced in the form of sprays or concentrates for subsequent breeding and spraying of the wasp dwelling. Usually they successfully cope with both adults and larvae of wasps.
Boric acid is the most well-known of the time-tested insecticides for wasp control. It is characterized by the absence of a pungent odor and can be successfully used to create poisonous baits.
Another “veteran” is the well-known Dichlorvos. Unfortunately, the composition of the drug has changed somewhat recently. Modern Dichlorvos no longer cuts down on the spot everything that moves, with its unforgettable toxic scent. But it can still be quite effective against many insects.
Delta Zone is a well-known product with a low odor, which does not scare away wasps, and therefore can be successfully used in baits.
Karbofos is an inexpensive and extremely foul-smelling drug. Suitable for spraying a wasp nest, but, unfortunately, in most cases it does not kill all insects on the first try. Karbofos is not recommended for use during flowering and within a radius of 5 km from the hives.
Geth is a modern insecticide without a pronounced odor. Suitable for baits and for the destruction of hornets' nests, but also works on other insects.
OTOS is a ready-to-use product that already contains insecticides, sugar and flavor to attract wasps. The manufacturer claims that OTOS is safe for bees.
If you are bitten by a wasp while processing the nest, you should not kill it, this can provoke aggressive behavior of the entire swarm.
Numerous insect adhesives work on the same principle: they are applied to cardboard, and then bait is dotted on top of them. The disadvantage of glue traps is that they attract different insects, and they are also not able to quickly cope with the entire wasp swarm.
The most common ways to scare away wasps
The most popular and safest way to deal with wasps is with a bait trap. You can buy it in the store or make it yourself. This will require a plastic bottle. The upper third is cut off and placed in the second part with the neck down. Something sweet and preferably fermented is poured into the bottom of the trap, for example, old jam, beer, you can also add spoiled apples or meat.
The next method is extremely unsafe, so we do not recommend using it without special clothing. Any popular insecticide is poured into the most dense plastic bag and sharply put on the nest. The edges of the bag are glued to a flat surface. It is possible to remove the package only after a few days, having previously tapped on it with a stick and listened.
We suggest that you familiarize yourself with What are mites in nature, the meaning of benefits and harms
It is better to destroy wasp nests in the fall or spring before they are populated. If this is not possible, spray wasp nests with insecticides at night when the wasps are less active.
Before you start repelling insects, you need to decide on the choice of strategy. For example, there are common methods such as pouring boiling water over the nest, spraying diesel fuel, gasoline and kerosene with a garden spray.Household chemicals (chlorine, “Dichlorvos”, “Domestos”) are also popular, using which they process the nest itself and places where wasps accumulate.
Often people buy various sprays and deodorants, air fresheners and other aerosols that emit a smell that repels wasps. Since work is carried out in the hot season, using the above means, it must be remembered that they are all quite flammable and easily ignite, especially when it comes to kerosene and diesel fuel.
