Pepper Atlant: description of the variety, reviews, photos, characteristics of fruits, advantages and disadvantages

It is not necessary to have extensive experience and knowledge of an agronomist to grow sweet bell peppers in your summer cottage. The main point, in order to obtain a good harvest, will be the correct choice of a variety, which does not need to be carefully looked after, undemanding to cultivation. The most unpretentious is the Atlant sweet pepper, a description of the variety of which we will present below. Fruits are red in color, have excellent taste and yield.

Description and characteristics of the variety

Pepper variety Atlant was created and entered into the State Register of the Russian Federation in 2007 as a variety that can be grown throughout Russia.

  • A hybrid, that is, it cannot be grown from self-collected seeds.
  • Suitable for cultivation in the open field, greenhouse, greenhouse and under a film cover.
  • Early ripening of fruits. Peppers reach technical maturity after 105-125 days after germination. For full maturation, 125-145 days must pass.
  • Bushes are medium-sized, compact, standard.
  • Plants grow to a height of 70-75 cm.
  • There are few leaves, but they are large.
  • Yield high. From 1 sq. meter of planting, you can collect 2-4 kg of fruit.
  • Resistant to adverse weather conditions.
  • It has good immunity against various diseases.

Some pests can attack Atlant pepper bushes. One of the most common is aphids. To get rid of harmful insects, you can treat the bushes with a solution of laundry soap. In case of mass defeat, it is better to use Aktara's insecticide or the preparations Fufanon, Karbofos, Intavir.

Peppers can also infect spider mites, which most often appear in dry and hot weather. To combat it, acaricidal drugs are used, such as Actellika, Fufanon.

How to grow seedlings yourself

To grow seedlings of the pepper variety in question on your own, you need to choose high-quality seed, sow it in a properly selected soil mixture in time and provide the seedlings with acceptable care.

Timing

Sowing seeds of the Atlant hybrid for seedlings is recommended in the period from mid-February to the end of March.

Soil and capacity

It is better to purchase soil specially designed for peppers, but you can cook it yourself, taking the following components in equal proportions:

  • peat;
  • sod land;
  • rotted sawdust;
  • humus;
  • sand;
  • ash.

Seedling soil

To sow pepper seeds for seedlings, you can take the following containers (optional):

  • one common capacity (box or special tray);
  • separate plastic cups (0.2 l or 0.5 l);
  • peat tablets (available from a specialist store).

What capacity to use is up to the gardener himself, since each has its own pros and cons:

  • plastic containers are inexpensive, since they can be made from disposable cups or plastic bottles, but holes must be made in them on the bottoms, drainage from expanded clay should be laid and specially prepared soil filled;
  • in peat tablets good drainage of the finished nutrient composition is provided, but to plant a large number of seedlings, the gardener will have to spend more money on them.

After distributing the soil mixture in containers, it must be disinfected with a weak solution of potassium permanganate, spilling it abundantly in each pot.
Important! It is unacceptable to strongly compress the soil, laying it in containers for germinating seeds, otherwise the seeds may not sprout.

Selection and preparation of seeds

Since Atlant pepper is a hybrid variety, self-harvesting of its seeds is impractical, since the yields obtained in this way will be of poor quality and with fewer fruits. Therefore, the seed must be purchased from a specialized store.

Selection and preparation of seeds

When choosing seeds in a seed store, you need to pay attention to the following nuances:

  1. Regionalization of culture according to the required climatic conditions. This recommendation is given on the packaging in the description of the variety, or you can get it from the seller.
  2. Place of cultivation: an open bed, a heated, unheated greenhouse, a temporary film shelter, a window sill or a balcony (each option provides its own instructions).
  3. Variety or hybrid (hybrid forms differ from varietal ones in higher quality products with high yields, greater resistance to diseases, high resistance to external influences).
  4. Ripening terms (early and mid-ripening varieties will allow you to get the first harvest in about 60-120 days from the moment of germination; late - after 120-150 days; very late - after 150 days).

Fruit characteristics

  • The fruits are large, 2-3 chambered, weighing on average 200-400 g.
  • They grow in length up to 26 cm, in diameter - about 8 cm.
  • Wall thickness 5-7 mm.
  • The shape of a truncated pyramid, several faces are clearly visible.
  • The skin is smooth, shiny, thin.
  • Initially, the color of the fruit is green, gradually turning red as it ripens.
  • Inside there are several seed chambers with a lot of seeds that are not suitable for further sowing.
  • Excellent taste, sweetish pulp with fresh aroma.

Pests and diseases

"Atlant" is a unique variety that is practically not exposed to diseases and attacks of pests. As a preventive measure, agents with a chemical base are used. They are sprayed with bushes. But you should not allow chemicals to get on the fruits of the plant. Otherwise, they will become unusable.

There is a prophylaxis option without the use of chemicals. In order to avoid the invasion of aphids and whiteflies, spicy herbs or other plants with a characteristic strong smell are planted near the pepper.

In the event that insects nevertheless attacked the bushes, it is enough to treat problem areas several times with a solution of laundry soap. In critical situations, they resort to insecticides.

Advantages and disadvantages

This hybrid has many advantages, including the following:

  • versatility of application;
  • unpretentious care;
  • resistance to changing weather conditions;
  • good immunity to major diseases;
  • marketable condition;
  • good keeping quality.

However, this variety has its drawbacks that everyone needs to know about, especially novice gardeners:

  • requires regular feeding for a bountiful harvest;
  • it is necessary to adhere to a certain light and thermal regime.

Outdoor and greenhouse care

  • In order for the pepper to produce a crop, it needs a sufficient area to feed. It is important to know that Atlant is planted in a row spacing of 1 meter at a distance of 40 cm from other bushes. This means that only 4 copies are placed on 1 square meter.
  • Having planted a plant, it is recommended to shade it for 3-4 days. This action will help the vegetable adapt.
  • Experienced gardeners advise tying up the pepper immediately. As soon as the bushes take root and grow, their formation begins. Stepsons are regularly cut before the first fork. To stimulate branching, pinch the top.
  • Subsequent care consists in systematic watering, top dressing and keeping the beds clean. Soil moistening depends on the weather and outside temperature. Often, once every few days is enough. As for fertilizers, they begin to be applied 10 days after planting. Top dressing containing organic substances and minerals is suitable.
  • In the southern regions, for the first 5-6 years, pepper is grown only outdoors. They begin to transplant it into greenhouses at the age of 6 years. If you plant seedlings in a greenhouse in early spring, you can harvest twice.

Growing features

The Atlant pepper variety is suitable for growing throughout Russia, but it manifests itself best of all in the central zone of the country.

Bushes should grow in loose soil saturated with organic matter. In this case, there should be dry air, moist soil and a temperature in the range of 20-25 degrees.

Seeds for seedlings are sown in mid-March. Before that, it is recommended to germinate them by placing them in damp gauze. In this case, the temperature in the room should be about 25 degrees.

If there is a possibility and a lot of free space, then cups or pots with a diameter of at least 10 cm are prepared for seedlings in order to do without picking. If this is not possible, then we sow the seeds in a plastic container.

Advice! It is better to use peat cups, then the seedlings are transplanted to a permanent place immediately with it, without injuring the root system of the plant.

Seedling soil can be purchased at a garden store or made yourself. To do this, combine 1 part of sand and garden soil and add 2 parts of humus.

The seeds are buried 1 cm into the ground. Then watered with warm water and covered with foil until the seeds germinate. After the sprouts appear, the film is removed and the planting is transferred to a bright place.

The seedlings are transferred to the ground when they are 40-50 days old. By this time, warm weather should be established on the street without night frosts.

10-14 days before this, the seedlings begin to harden, taking them out into the fresh air. At first, plantings are kept outside for no more than 30 minutes, increasing this time every day. This will help young plants to quickly take root in a new place and easier to transfer adaptation to new conditions.

Important! Peppers without hardening experience severe stress after transplanting and slow down growth by 2 weeks.

In addition, the sun's rays can cause burns to the seedlings.

It is recommended to plant plants in the ground at 4 pcs per 1 sq. meter.

Care

The growing season of plants is not distinguished by special care. In describing the care of the Atlant F1 pepper variety, it is worth mentioning regular feeding, watering and loosening the soil.

Watering

Water the sprouts liberally at least three times a week. The water should be at least room temperature or slightly warmer. Forget about watering with ice or hot water. This is not worth doing, the plants will grow worse. On hot days, you can water the seedlings even every day.

Watering

Fertilizer

Feed the seedlings with fertilizer every 20 days. Fertilizers can be organic or special, which contain complexes of potassium, nitrogen, phosphorus and other trace elements.

Plants can be fed with a nitrogen solution, where 10 liters of water is diluted with high-quality manure. The main thing is that the mixture does not get on the roots, because it can burn the root system. Phosphate-potassium fertilizers are well suited for feeding before fruit appears.

Shoot processing

Pepper "Atlant F1" does not need processing of shoots. But he needs a garter, because even with a small size, the bushes can grow well upward.Tie tree branches or thin planks to the stems to give the sprouts good support. Now the stems of plants will definitely not be broken by gusts of strong wind.

Pepper Atlant: variety description, characteristics, planting and care

Timely harvest will speed up the ripening of the next fruits. Therefore, it is carried out 4-5 times per season.

The remains of the crop are harvested before frost and ripened indoors.

The bright red fruits of the Atlant variety are cone-shaped, large, with two or three chambers. Fleshy, crispy, dense, juicy and aromatic peppers taste sweet. When technically ripe, the peppers are light green. Peppers are removed along with the stalk. Harvest up to five times per season.

Fruits that have reached technical ripeness are recommended to be picked and placed in a warm place. Peppers folded in this way will be able to ripen on their own without weighing down an already weakened bush. After a few days, they will take on the usual red color for the variety. Thanks to this method of harvesting, you can get a much larger harvest, since by picking peppers all the time, the gardener gives more space for their "roommates" on the bush.

In terms of consumption, Atlant pepper is universal. It can be canned, cooked, eaten fresh - whatever. They are usually stored preserving, freezing or fresh in the refrigerator. In the latter case, keeping quality hardly reaches 1 month, so most hostesses still prefer freezing.

Atlant pepper history

Not all is well with this pepper. There is some confusion. There is an Atlant variety with cuboid fruits from agro.The store can also offer you a cone-shaped hybrid Atlant F1 under the brand name "NK" ("Russian Garden"). There is also a re-grading with the same name, which has nothing to do with either one or the other.

There is an official source - the State Register of Breeding Achievements. It includes only one Atlant, created by the Poisk agricultural holding near Moscow. The variety was included in the unified list of plants in 2007 and is approved for cultivation in all regions of the Russian Federation. The patent belongs to Poisk, the same company ensures the safety of the variety.

There are varieties of pepper with similar names: Atlante, Atlantic, Athlete.

Dive

Pepper Atlant F1 does not like contact with neighbors. Reviews of gardeners claim that in this case, he begins to quickly reach up. Therefore, as soon as the first true leaves appear, the peppers dive. It is better to place it in pots of two plants, but you can also place it in spacious boxes. Although after this procedure the plants will slightly slow down their growth, but soon they will delight you with new leaves.

If bell peppers are grown in a greenhouse, then seedlings are planted in early May. It will bloom soon.

Seedlings that will grow in the open field must first be well hardened. To do this, you can keep it in April on a cold veranda or glazed balcony. If this is not done, then immediately after landing in the ground, it will die from cold or wind. In May, you need to take the seedlings out into the air, but cover them at night. This can be done in a greenhouse.

Reviews of vegetable growers about Atlant pepper

Atlas, medium, height up to 80 cm, wall 7–8 mm, for the entire time never, or anything, did not hurt.

Svetlana3d

About Atlant - I agree 100%. Equine fruit size, thick walls. True, in my green form it went into processing. She did not wait for ripening, since without shelter, and a new wave of harvest pushed to harvest. But all the same, pepper is super.

The fisherwoman Sonya

The girls, having read, ran to the store, ask for the Atlant pepper. They give two: a variety from "Search" and a hybrid F1 from "Russian garden". They say they are different and both must be taken. The variety has a bush up to 75 cm high, fruit length 18–20 cm, diameter 13–14 cm, wall thickness 8–10 mm. The hybrid has fruit length up to 26 cm, wall thickness 9–11 mm, “one of the sweetest peppers”, “suitable for growing in any climatic zone” (infa from packages). Took both.

Pepper Atlant is grown according to the standard scheme, with only minor differences. Sowing a mid-season variety for seedlings should be started immediately, as soon as a suitable day length is established - at least 10 hours. A sprawling and large-fruited bush will require more space in the garden. Water and food consumption will also be higher than for early and compact varieties with small fruits.

Testimonials

Pepper Atlant has only positive reviews. Everyone who grows this crop is happy with the result.

Michael

I can't get enough of this strain. It's very easy to look after Atlanta. The plant does not get sick, it is not attacked by pests. My task is only to water the plants and feed them if necessary. The harvest is always excellent. I collect up to 3 kg of peppers from a bush. They are large, juicy, fleshy and delicious. Everyone is recommended to grow this variety in their beds. You will be happy with the result.

Hope

I have Atlant - my favorite pepper. The fruits are very large and fleshy. The taste is excellent. The harvest is very good. The plant requires minimal maintenance. Therefore, it is very easy to grow it. I canned and freeze it. I like that it does not lose its qualities after processing: it does not deform and remains the same juicy. For me, this is the best variety among peppers.
