Cat fleas in an apartment: how to get rid of intruders

Fleas are parasitesthat should be dealt with immediately. All fleas and their larvae must be destroyed carefully and, if possible, specialists should do this. When choosing funds for self-control, it is worth considering their toxicity, methods of use and safety for humans.

There are a lot of flea remedies, with different properties and effectiveness. Manufacturers offer powders, sprays, aerosols, which include pyritrin substances.

How do fleas get into the apartment

In Russia, the most common are cat fleas. Despite the name, they are parasites not only on cats. These insects bite dogs, rodents, birds and humans.

In the summer, flea infestations are common. This is especially true for residents of the first and second floors, as well as private houses. However, jumping insects can climb much higher.

Cat fleas enter the apartment in the following ways:

  1. With pets. Cats and dogs that walk outside on their own can pick up parasites from other four-legged animals.
  2. From the basement. In such places, stray animals often gather. Cat fleas jump off them in search of a new carrier, penetrate entrances and apartments.
  3. With old things. Fleas can take a liking to a mattress, carpet, upholstered furniture if infected animals have come into contact with them or they were in places where there are parasites.
  4. From neighbors. Insects move along ventilation ducts and crawl into the smallest crevices.
  5. With rodents. Cat fleas live on mice and rats. If the apartment is attacked by these pests, insects may appear along with them.
  6. With a person. Insects cling to clothing and shoes. It is enough to walk where an infected animal has recently walked, or to pet stray kittens.

Get rid of cat fleas in your apartment as soon as possible. Parasites are extremely dangerous - they can infect a person with helminths and other diseases, provoke severe allergies.

Reasons for contamination of residential premises

When a person is faced with such a problem, it is very important to find the reason for the infection in order to prevent the reappearance of the parasites.

The most common reasons include:

  • Pets that bring parasites on the wool off the street. In order for a pet to be attacked by blood-sucking animals, it is not at all necessary to contact a sick animal, they can fall on the wool from grass, ground.
  • A person can independently bring them to his home. On the street, most often, flea eggs fall on shoes, which a person brings to his house.
  • They can also come from neighbors, for example, when they disinfect.
  • The reason may be basements, in which flea colonies very often live.
  • Birds are also carriers, so penetration from attics or when the nest is very close to the window is not excluded.

Indoor insect habitats

To quickly get rid of cat fleas in the house, you should carefully process their favorite habitats: baseboards, any crevices, carpets.

If there is a cat in the house, fleas can be found on its bed. Also, parasites prefer to be in mattresses, upholstered furniture and toys.

Places where people are most often, insects choose for "hunting", and secluded corners - for breeding.

If cat fleas are found, you should immediately begin to eliminate them. If the parasites begin to multiply en masse, it will be much more difficult to get rid of them.

On a note. Sometimes fleas only bite one family member. Parasites choose the person who smells the most attractive to them.

Classification by the type of active ingredients

Determination of pyrethroids.
The following groups of toxic substances are distinguished:

  1. Pyrethroids are synthetic analogs of pyrethrins (natural insecticides). Substances of this group affect the nervous system of parasites, resulting in paralysis. Insects lose their ability to breathe, and internal organs stop functioning. Parasites in this state cannot reproduce. Doom comes soon. The most effective substance in this group is cyhalothrin. Other insecticides are often used: permethrin, deltamethrin, cypermethrin, tetramethrin.
  2. Organophosphorus compounds. These are substances containing a phosphorus-carbon bond. Insecticides belong to the group of nerve poisons. After processing the premises, the death of insects occurs within the first hours. Poisons, entering the body, contribute to the replacement of enzymes involved in the transmission of nerve impulses. This leads to the development of paralysis. The parasite cannot reproduce, breathe, and soon dies. The organophosphate insecticide differs from analogues in its ability to penetrate through the respiratory and digestive systems, the outer covers.
  3. Pyrethrins are natural insecticides. They are obtained from plants of the Asteraceae family, the genus Pyrethrum. The most powerful remedy is from Dalmatian chamomile flowers. This is a conditionally safe substance, it is better tolerated by the human body in case of poisoning. The disadvantage of these compounds is the ability to act on parasites only in direct contact with the outer covers. In this way, the poison enters the body, disrupts the functioning of the nervous system, and provokes paralysis. Another disadvantage of pyrethrins is their low effectiveness.
  4. Selamectin is a broad-spectrum agent that affects various types of parasites, including fleas. Refers to insecticides of a semi-synthetic nature.
  5. Neonicotinoids. Of this group, imidacloprid is often used. The mechanism of action is based on the ability to bind to nicotinic receptors of the nervous system. As a result, paralysis develops, fleas lose their ability to reproduce, breathe, digest food, and soon die.
  6. Phenylpyrazoles. Fipronil is isolated from this group. This insecticide also destroys the nervous system of insects, which is achieved by blocking the GABA-gated and glutamate-gated chloride channels.

Flea development cycle

It will be much easier to get rid of cat fleas on your own if you know the stages of their development:

  1. The flea lays eggs, which are covered with a smooth and slippery shell, so they spread freely. For example, in those places where an infected animal walks.
  2. After about 2 weeks, a larva emerges with a length of about 1 mm. This worm can move. It feeds on the feces of adult fleas, skin scales and other organic debris.
  3. Within two weeks, the larva molts three times, after which it turns into a pupa.
  4. After 14 days, an adult appears from the pupa - an adult insect.

Eggs are very difficult to get rid of. They do not need nutrition, they can remain viable for months. As soon as the warmth comes, the larvae hatch from them. The most favorable time for the development of cat fleas is summer. It is then that the cycle of their development becomes as short as possible.

To get rid of feline fleas in an apartment, it is necessary to disrupt the cyclical nature of their development. That is, regularly destroy adult insects and larvae. Then they cannot reproduce.

Important. The higher the temperature and humidity, the faster new generations of parasites appear. Therefore, in hot weather, cat flea control agents should be used as often as possible.

Folk recipes

There are many folk remedies for treating an apartment and removing fleas from the house. With their high efficiency, they are absolutely safe and especially relevant for those who suffer from allergies, skin diseases or asthma, are expecting a child or live with animals and children, i.e. when the use of insecticides is not possible or desirable.

Soda

An ordinary solution of salt and soda diluted in water (1 tablespoon per 200 ml of water) helps to get rid of fleas. All components are available, completely harmless to humans, but deadly to pests and their larvae. You can kill pests within 2-3 weeks if you spray a soda solution in the apartment and apply with a brush or broom to carpets and upholstered furniture every 4 days.

Sagebrush

An excellent remedy for fighting jumping insects is wormwood. Parasites do not like its sharp bitter smell, so fleas will never settle in an apartment if you put branches of a fragrant plant at the entrance to it. From wormwood, you can prepare a decoction (chopped freshly harvested or dried grass is boiled in boiling water for 5 minutes) or make a tincture (dry wormwood is poured with alcohol and insisted for 2 weeks) and sprayed in the house or wash the floors with it. Also, remedies with wormwood are effective for combating fleas in pets if their wool is treated with a decoction.

Sagebrush

Attention! Wormwood helps only to scare off parasites, but does not kill them.

Essential oils

The use of some essential oils will fill the house with a pleasant scent that is completely unbearable for fleas. In 5 liters of warm water, dilute with 20-25 drops of the product and spray the apartment with this solution. Pet hair can be treated with essential oils.

A drop is applied to the withers or collar and the reaction of the animal is monitored. If the smell is tolerated by them normally, then another 3-4 drops can be applied. To repel parasites, essential oils are suitable:

  • lavender;
  • carnations;
  • eucalyptus;
  • basil;
  • swamp mint;
  • lemongrass;
  • cedar;
  • thyme;
  • rosemary;
  • tea tree.

Tar soap

Birch tar, which is part of tar soap, does an excellent job of getting rid of fleas. It is especially often used to process animal hair. In addition, you can wash floors and walls and wash your laundry with soapy water.

Vinegar

Vinegar by itself will not get rid of fleas, it is rather used as a prophylactic agent or as an adjunct, in conjunction with other methods to destroy parasites. Fleas cannot tolerate either the taste of acid or its smell, therefore, a prepared solution (200 ml of vinegar per 1 liter of water) can be used to treat both an apartment and animal hair, creating unbearable conditions for pests.

Vinegar

Attention! Only apple cider vinegar is suitable for repelling fleas.

Boric acid

Boric acid is dangerous for pests in that it provokes a strong loss of moisture in them, and as a result, insects die from dehydration. The tool retains its insecticidal effect for a long time, however, it is better to treat the room several times. Flea larvae are more effective, therefore, the final result should be expected no earlier than 1-1.5 months, until the adults are destroyed. To exterminate the parasites, it is necessary to sprinkle the floor and other surfaces with boric acid powder, spread it evenly over the carpets with a brush, and after 2 days vacuum them and carry out wet cleaning.

Pyrethrum

The natural neurotoxic insecticide pyrethrum, extracted from chrysanthemum extract, is used to control and repel pests in some commercial products in the form of sprays and powders.

Choosing a way to control insects

There are 2 ways to get rid of cat fleas in an apartment:

  • physical - hot steam treatment;
  • chemical - the use of various drugs that destroy insects.

The first method is more gentle. It is suitable for families with small children and people who cannot leave the apartment during processing. The steam is safe, does not harm either the environment or the inhabitants of the home.

Chemicals are radical. To get rid of fleas, you will have to not go into the apartment for 2-3 hours, remove all animals from it, hide food. Also, some products have a pungent smell, but this usually disappears quickly.

Preparing to kill parasites

Before applying the indoor flea spray, it is worth taking the appropriate measures:

  • Carry out wet cleaning, removing all debris and dirt, wash clothes.
  • Move furniture, remove carpets from walls, shake blankets and pillows.
  • Children and pets must not be in the apartment. Better to be absent from a disinfected apartment for several days.
  • Spray should be applied to walls, carpets, furniture, wipe floors and close all doors and windows.
  • After a few hours, you can ventilate, shake out the carpets and do a wet cleaning of the entire room, remove the product from furniture, inspect pets for parasites.

If the room is processed sanitary service is a guarantee of complete destruction of insects, as well as high efficiency and safety for apartment residents. The main thing to remember is that as soon as you notice the presence of fleas, you need to fight them immediately.

Chemical method

The range of products for the destruction of cat fleas is quite wide. On sale there are various aerosols, sprays and concentrates made from natural and synthetic ingredients.

To get rid of cat fleas in apartments, use the following insecticides:

  • Pyrethrin is a natural plant-derived insecticide. It makes the parasites leave the apartment, and the remaining insects die after a few days from suffocation. Safe for people and animals.
  • Permethrin is a synthetically reconstituted pyrethrin with a more pronounced effect. Causes paralysis in insects.
  • Benzyl benzoate is an ester of benzoic acid. Insecticide safe for humans.
  • Fipronil is a synthetic substance with a powerful insectoacaricidal effect.
  • Piperonyl butoxide and chlorpyrifos are auxiliary components that enhance the effect of the main substance.

Cat fleas are capable of developing resistance to a particular insecticide. To get rid of these insects permanently, it is better to periodically change the preparations.

Aerosols and sprays

Aerosols act pointwise and allow you to locally get rid of cat fleas in the apartment. Massive death of insects can be seen already during processing.These products are convenient to use, contain fragrances - you do not have to suffer from a pungent odor.

Lack of sprays and aerosols - high consumption. To get rid of cat fleas in a 1-room apartment, you will have to spend 2-3 spray cans. And if you consider that you need to destroy parasites regularly, it turns out to be quite expensive.

To get rid of cat fleas, use the following remedies:

  • Pair of Stops;
  • Raptor;
  • Raid;
  • Leopard;
  • Dichlorvos;
  • Canina pharma;
  • Frontline;
  • Beafar;
  • Combat.

Important. A cat or other pet should not be treated with a flea killer in the apartment. The concentration of active substances in it is too high - the animal may be poisoned.

Processing method

To get rid of cat fleas in living quarters, Para Stop aerosol is most often chosen. It destroys adult insects, larvae and pupae. If the instructions and safety measures are followed, the aerosol does not harm people and pets.

Before processing, wet cleaning is carried out in the apartment, all family members, animals, terrariums and aquariums are evacuated. Food is collected in sealed containers.

The product is available in the form of an aerosol generator, which ensures uniform dispersion. Before use, the can is actively shaken, then turned upside down and directed to the surface to be treated. The product is sprayed from a distance of 50 cm.

To get rid of cat fleas in the apartment, they spray the furniture, the space under the beds and carpets, as well as all hard-to-reach places: cracks, cracks, baseboards. To treat 1 m2, it is enough to spray the product for 5 seconds.

After application, the apartment is left closed for 3 hours, then ventilated for at least 30 minutes.

During the week, the home is vacuumed daily - with this measure, you can quickly get rid of parasites. Vibration and warm air currents accelerate the elimination of cat fleas from pupae, and Para Stop continues to destroy them.

Important. The dust container is always shaken out outside the house to prevent re-infestation with parasites.

Concentrates

They are a liquid with a high content of active substances. Such funds are not used in their pure form. A working solution is preliminarily prepared from them - diluted in the proportion indicated by the manufacturer. It is these drugs that pest controllers most often use.

To get rid of insects, all surfaces in the apartment are treated with concentrates, and not just hidden places. Usually, cat fleas die en masse on the 5-7th day after use, but some brands of products work faster. After disinsection, the drugs continue to work for about a month.

Butox is recognized as one of the most popular and effective remedies. From 1 ml of concentrate, 500-750 ml of working solution is obtained. The only drawback is a rather strong specific smell.

You can also get rid of cat fleas in an apartment using the following means:

  1. Ectosan - diluted in the same concentration as Butox. The drug does not smell so harsh, does not leave marks on furniture, carpets and other coverings.
  2. Neostomosan - to prepare a working solution, 1 ml of the concentrate is dissolved in 1 liter of water. Protective properties last for about a week. The disadvantages include a very pungent smell.
  3. Delcid - the concentrate is diluted at the rate of 1 ml per 800 ml of water. Insects die within a couple of hours after using the emulsion. The drug has a weak specific odor that quickly disappears.
  4. Tsifox - 2 ml of the drug is required for 1 liter of water. Effective only against adult insects. Causes paralysis in cat fleas after 30 minutes. It continues to repel insects for 3-4 months. It has a low odor that does not linger on surfaces.
  5. Executioner - 1 bottle of 5 ml is designed to prepare 0.5 liters of working solution. The effect appears within 2 hours. The unpleasant smell disappears quickly during ventilation.
  6. Get - diluted in a ratio of 1 to 10 (100 ml per 1 liter). Has no pronounced odor. All insects die within a week. The effect lasts six months. The manufacturer claims that cat fleas do not develop immunity to this agent.
  7. Tetrix - 50 ml of the concentrate is dissolved in 1 liter of water. The composition contains potent poisons, so not only adult fleas and larvae die, but also eggs. However, the drug is toxic to humans as well. Do not allow it to enter the respiratory tract, mucous membranes and skin.
  8. Cucaracha - 2.5 ml of the drug is diluted in 1 liter of water. It has a long-lasting effect: the active substances continue to work for 30 days after application. The disadvantage is an unpleasant odor that persists for a long time.
  9. Agran - to prepare 1 liter of working solution, you will need 3 ml of concentrate. The composition includes 2 poisons (chlorpyrifos and cypermethrin).So far, there is no information about insects with immunity to these substances. Differs in a pungent odor.
  10. Tsifox - if there are few parasites, it is enough to mix 0.4 ml of concentrate with 1 liter of water. Otherwise, 2 ml will be required. Cat fleas begin to die within 30 minutes after treatment. The drug continues to work for 3 months.
  11. Biorin - 1.2 ml of concentrate is diluted in 1 liter of water. Within 15 minutes after treatment, 50% of the fleas are destroyed, the rest die within 24 hours. The duration of protection is 6-8 weeks.
  12. Sinusan - the working solution is made in a ratio of 5 ml per 1 liter of water. The duration of exposure is approximately 1 month. The product has a weak specific odor.
  13. Chlorpyrimark - used at the rate of 5 ml per 1 liter of water. Residual activity appears for 1.5-2 months. Contains fragrances that neutralize unpleasant odors.
  14. Empire-20 - diluted in a ratio of 1 to 50. That is, to prepare 1 liter of working solution, 20 ml of the drug will be needed. The initial signs of poisoning appear in insects 2-4 hours after contact. The death of parasites increases within 3 days. The duration of the residual impact is more than 30 days.
  15. Eslanadez - add 4 ml of concentrate to 1 liter of water. The action lasts up to 45 days. The smell is weak, quickly disappears.
  16. Averfos - 5 ml of concentrate is required for 1 liter of water. The effect lasts for a month. It has a specific smell, but it disappears after airing.
  17. Ram - a working emulsion is prepared at the rate of 1.25 ml per 1 liter of water. The drug takes effect within 15 minutes. In insects, activity first increases, then paralysis and death occur. The residual effect lasts for 4-8 weeks.

To get rid of fleas in an apartment, use only a freshly prepared working solution. During storage, it erodes and loses its properties.

Processing method

It will be possible to get rid of annoying parasites for a long time only if the apartment is processed according to certain rules.

The room is cleaned beforehand:

  • wipe dust even in the most inaccessible places;
  • vacuuming, grabbing all the cracks and furniture;
  • washing the floor.

The cat litter is boiled, and bed linen, bedspreads, rugs, toys, curtains, and other items that may contain cat fleas are washed at temperatures above 60 ° C.

After that, a working solution is applied.

Important. Before processing, you need to check if the cat flea repellent stains the wallpaper and fabrics. Otherwise, walls and upholstered furniture can be damaged.

You will need a spray bottle to spray chemicals. You can buy it at a hardware store or use the one left over from another product. For example, for cleaning windows.

Insecticide in the apartment is treated:

  • carpets;
  • skirting boards;
  • upholstered furniture;
  • doors and walls (approximately 1.2 m from the floor).

If the cat often climbs on bookshelves, cabinets and other "hills", then you will have to spray them too.

Spray 100-200 ml of working solution on 1 m2. After applying the product to all surfaces, the apartment is closed and left for about 2 hours. It is impossible to be inside at this time - inhalation of poisonous vapors is harmful to health. If other pets live in the house - hamsters, parrots, snails, they are given to relatives or neighbors.

After the specified time, the room is well ventilated. Places with which the residents of the apartment are constantly in contact are wiped with a damp cloth. The rest of the surfaces do not need to be washed.

To completely remove parasites, the apartment is treated every 10-12 days.

Security measures

When working with chemicals, minimum precautions are taken: wear gloves, goggles and a respirator, do not allow the product to come into contact with mucous membranes.

Do not smoke, drink or eat during processing.At the end of work, you must thoroughly wash your hands and face with soap and water, and rinse your mouth with water.

On contact with skin, wash off with plenty of water. If the drug is swallowed, drink 2-3 glasses of clean water and 8-10 tablets of activated carbon or other sorbent. If you experience weakness, nausea, dizziness, consult a doctor.

Benefits and features of flea sprays

Flea spray or aerosol goes directly to the parasite habitat and acts instantly
In modern pet stores, you can find various forms of anti-flea drugs for cats. Among the most common:

  • collars;
  • drops;
  • pills;
  • sprays;
  • shampoos.

Among these agents, the most effective are those in the form of sprays or aerosols. They have a detrimental effect on fleas, and at the same time on ticks, lice, lice as soon as possible, as they get directly on insects and their habitat. They instantly paralyze parasites, "freeze" their larvae, and stop the development of eggs. Depending on the purpose, flea sprays are divided into 2 groups:

  • applied to the fur and skin of the animal;
  • for processing walls, floors, furniture in the habitat of an infected pet.

Animal sprays contain relatively harmless chemicals. It is forbidden to spray funds from the second group on pets, they are suitable for the destruction of fleas that have spread in the room where the infected cat was. These sprays are concentrated and contain chemicals that are not suitable for pet treatment.

Experts recommend using sprays if the furry pet is already infected with fleas. Collars and drops are more suitable as prophylactic agents. Sprays can also be used for prophylaxis, but the dosage in this case is lower and the frequency of treatment is less frequent than with treatment.

Instructions for use and precautions

The neck collar will help prevent the spray from licking off the coat before it dries completely
Flea sprays are toxic, so when handling an animal, care should be taken by the breeder. It is recommended to carry out the treatment in the open air or in a ventilated area. It is advisable for the owner to wear clothes for household work, which then wash, rubber gloves. It is forbidden to smoke, drink, eat during this period or before you wash your hands and wash your face after all manipulations with the spray.

It is necessary, if possible, to protect the animal from getting the insecticidal spray into the eyes, mouth, and respiratory tract. To do this, the cat should wear a neck collar. You can make it with your own hands from a strip of cardboard or a sheet of plastic, fastening it with a stapler in the form of a funnel around the cat's neck. A muzzle will also help prevent the poison from licking off the fur. All protective devices can be removed after the coat is completely dry.

The dose of the drug is determined individually based on the recommendations of the manufacturer of the product, the pet's body weight, the length and density of the coat. The approximate dosage is calculated as follows: 0.5-1 ml (1-2 pressings on the spray bottle) per 1 kg of body weight. If the coat is dense or long, at least 2 sprays are required per kg of body weight. A step-by-step guide to using a flea spray for cats usually looks like this:

  1. Protective devices are put on the neck or face of the animal.
  2. The spray bottle is shaken and sprayed at a distance of 20–25 cm from the surface to be treated, holding the balloon vertically.
  3. Spread the coat with your fingers, trying to spray directly on the pet's skin.
  4. The treatment is started from the cat's head: the spray is sprayed onto the owner's hand and rubbed into the ears, muzzle, without touching the nose, lips and eyes. If this happens, these areas are washed with a cotton pad moistened with water.
  5. Then they process the neck, torso, paws, belly, tail, spraying directly onto the skin or wetting the hands and stroking the pet (smooth-haired breeds, sphinxes).
  6. After the spray has dried (usually 20-30 minutes), the coat is combed with a flat plastic comb with fine teeth to remove dead parasites. Some drugs require rinsing with water.
  7. The next processing is done in 7-10 days, if necessary.

If the drug does not need to be washed off with water after drying, then the animal cannot bathe and swim in reservoirs for the next 2 days. During the same period, you should not be in close contact with the cat, it is not recommended to stroke and let it near children. If the product comes into contact with human skin, mucous membranes or eyes, it is necessary to rinse these areas with water. Heavily flea infested cats may need to be sprayed 2–4 times and the interval between treatments should be shortened to 1–2 days. At the same time, the treated areas are alternated in order to prevent intoxication. For example, first one side of the body is treated, the next time the other. For prophylactic purposes, the drug is used 1-2 times a month or less, depending on the degree of risk of infection with parasites and the duration of the specific drug.

Physical method

To get rid of cat fleas, you can treat the apartment with a steam generator or steamer. Insects, their eggs, larvae do not tolerate strong heating. At temperatures above 45 ° C, they die.

The steam is used to process carpets, upholstered furniture, floors and baseboards. Activities are carried out every 10 days until the cat's fleas are completely eliminated.

For your information. Choose steam generators that work in a horizontal position. Some models do not have this feature.

It will not be possible to get rid of all the eggs of the parasites at once. They can be located in some secluded corner of the apartment, where steam does not get. After a while, larvae will appear from them, and fleas will begin to multiply again.

Contacting specialized services

Most often, services are contacted with a high degree of infection or when it is necessary to process basements, attics, and other large rooms. It should be said that such professional assistance will provide the maximum result. During disinfestation, they use potent drugs that have a detrimental effect on eggs. In addition, they know about all the features of this procedure. Such an appeal to the services will exclude independent work with toxic substances.

Remember that after processing, regardless of whether you carry out it yourself or contact the service, you will need to adhere to some recommendations. It is necessary for the first time to carry out wet cleaning every day, be sure to pay attention to hard-to-reach places.

Flea control

If you have a cat or dog that regularly visits the street, take care of protection to prevent infection. For example, collars, drops, aerosols, and other forms of specialized products can be used.

Wash the bedding of the animals regularly and hang them out in the sun. Also ventilate pillows and blankets. When parasites have entered the house from the basement, from neighbors or by other means, exclude re-entry. Use insecticides, such as chalk, which is applied to selected surfaces, such as ventilation, windows, pipe joints, etc.

Flea prevention indoors

It is important not only to get rid of cat fleas, but also to prevent their reappearance in the apartment. This requires:

  1. Every 10-14 days, spray the vents, staircase, door mats with anti-parasite agents, and when living on the 1-2 floor - window sills and a balcony.
  2. To get rid of fleas from an animal - treat it with antiparasitic agents that provide long-term protection (Bars Forte, Beafar, Celandine, etc.), or buy an anti-flea collar.
  3. Vacuum the apartment at least once a week. This measure allows you to get rid of pupae and larvae in a timely manner. The dust container must be shaken out after each cleaning.
  4. Wash clothes and bed linen at the highest possible temperature.
  5. Residents of private houses should regularly mow the lawn. Short grass warms up well in the sun and becomes unattractive to cat fleas. Along the perimeter, you can plant plants with a pungent smell: tansy, lavender, geranium, mint. Insects do not like them very much.

These measures should be taken during the warm season, when cat fleas are most active.

On a note. If parasites appear despite all preventive measures, it is worth contacting the sanitary and epidemiological station. Specialists will process not only the apartment, but also the basement and the entire entrance.

To get rid of cat fleas in an apartment, it is enough to carry out treatments regularly. And timely prevention will help avoid the invasion of these parasites.

Professional flea remedies

Before breeding fleas are removed by means of special chemistry, the windows are closed, food is removed, and pets are removed from the treated room.

After processing, they leave the apartment for 3-4 hours to avoid intoxication. Upon returning, ventilate the room and wash well with soap and water or the addition of alcohol, work surfaces such as kitchen countertops, tables, etc. Wet cleaning is not done for several days. Dead pests are swept out with a broom or removed with a vacuum cleaner.

Advice! After 2-3 weeks, you will have to re-process the apartment, even if the fleas no longer bother you.

Aerosols

Spray sprayers are very effective remedies for fleas and their clutches, both in the house itself and in the local area. At the same time, there is evidence that drugs containing natural pyrethrins and synthetic pyrethroids are more effective in the fight against parasites than chemistry based on organophosphorus. It is the first insecticides that are most often produced in the form of aerosols. Let's take a look at some of them:

  1. The most common insect repellent in an apartment is the Dichlorvos TM aerosol. It is used at the rate of 10 ml per 1 sq. m, while not sprayed on linen and dishes. You can use no more than 300 ml of the product per day.
  2. The German drug "Raptor" based on cypermethrin is odorless, considered relatively harmless to humans and animals, but at the same time it is capable of killing all fleas in the house in a matter of hours.
  3. Aerosol "Raid", especially the one that is produced for the destruction of cockroaches and ants, is a highly effective drug that is world famous.
  4. Combat Super Spray is a pyrethroid-based product that can treat fleas, ants and bedbugs at home.
  5. Aerosol "Dr. Klaus ”copes well with many insects, including fleas, and is inexpensive. The price of a 600 ml can is about 300 rubles.

Powders

Another independent way to destroy fleas can be the use of special chemicals in the form of powders in an apartment. This method has a drawback - the effectiveness is achieved only in the case of direct contact with the insecticide on the insect. The powder agent acts more slowly than the aerosol, but it is also inferior in price to the latter. The drug must be used to treat the places where the parasites are supposed to be, most often it is the floor, baseboards and carpets. Among powder insecticides, there are several that are in high demand:

  1. "Clean House" or dust is an effective drug against most common pests in the apartment.
  2. Another effective remedy for the destruction of flying and jumping insects is "Phenaxin".
  3. The preparation based on chamomile "Pyrethrum", despite its simplicity and natural ingredients in the composition, copes well with fleas.
  4. Means "Delicia" are used to treat the apartment from parasites, especially if the cause of their appearance is pets.

    Pyrethrum

Aquafumigator

You can quickly remove fleas from the apartment and destroy their larvae using an aquafumigator. This device spreads the insecticide indoors using the steam generated by heating the water and the active ingredient. Steam penetrates into all even hard-to-reach places in the apartment: micro crevices in the floor, ventilation hoods, under the baseboards, etc. The most popular aquafumigator for treating an apartment from insects on your own is produced under the Raptor brand.

Aquafumigator Raptor

Description of the tool

The drug is known as an effective aerosol that allows you to clean the room from fleas. Refers to modern insecticides in which two active substances are used at once. This allows you to achieve good results when treating a room with any degree of contamination.
