Smoke bomb - what is it?
The smoke bomb is a new generation insecticidal development that deals with bedbugs much more effectively than traditional sprays and aerosols. This method of killing parasites came to Russia from Japan and China.
The smoke bomb was created in Japan
Checkers destroy bedbugs by comprehensively acting on them with the following insecticides:
- permethrin (has a paralyzing effect);
- hexachlorane (chlorine-based poison);
- didecyldimethylammonium bromide (effectively destroys insects, fungi, bacteria and infections);
- molecular sulfur (promotes the formation of clouds of smoke in large volumes).
IMPORTANT: fourth generation permethrin is called cypermethrin. The bugs have not yet had time to adapt to this acaricidal preparation.
The principle of the smoke bomb
After activating the checker, smoke fills the entire space of an apartment or house. It overtakes bloodsuckers at any point in the room and penetrates them under the chitinous membrane and into the hemolymph. The smoke destroys the nervous system of both young and mature bugs, completely paralyzing and causing rapid death.
Checker smoke kills bedbugs, but not eggs
IMPORTANT: not only the smoke itself is destructive for bedbugs, but also the white bloom from it, which covers all surfaces in the room with an even uniform layer. If individual parasites survive and try to run over this plaque, the poison will still penetrate their chitinous membrane and lead to paralysis.
Buy checkers for bedbugs: how do they work?
Mosquito smoke bomb Quiet Evening, which is also effective against bedbugs, functions according to the following principle of action:
- The poison neutralizing insects enters the zones where the parasites live, settles on their bodies and enters the organisms through the respiratory system.
- After the Quiet Evening mosquito repellent, which also exterminates bedbugs, penetrates through the chitinous cover into soft tissues, it reaches the nerve endings of the parasites. Likewise, the poison penetrates to the nerve endings when it enters the body through the respiratory system.
- Gas bombs and the smoke they spread paralyze the nervous system, followed by the death of the parasite.
It is important to understand that when using Quiet Evening from bedbugs, for some time the substance remains on the surfaces of the room, furniture, decor items and other interior elements. In the future, if the surviving bugs run over the surfaces where the poison has remained, it will inevitably fall on their abdomen and legs. This ensures the long-lasting effect of the smoke bomb against bedbugs. The active substance remains especially long in those areas that are difficult to reach during cleaning. That is, even after you remove the bedbugs, your apartment will be protected from new penetration.
Varieties of smoke bombs
Checkers can be classified according to two main parameters:
- scope (for residential or non-residential premises);
- activation method (to make smoke go, the checker is either set on fire, or placed in a jar of water).
IMPORTANT: checkers, from which smoke begins to go on contact with water, are called aquafumigators. Their smoke penetration is lower than that of models with an ignition wick.
Among the most popular models available for sale in Russia today, we should mention:
- Japanese model "Samuro". It is recognized as the most effective for residential premises, but it costs around 1000 rubles, in addition, there is a risk of running into a fake. It is activated upon contact with water and is sufficient for the treatment of rooms up to 26 sq. m.
Samuro's insecticidal checker - Raptor. It is activated on contact with water. It emits a powerful paralytic substance that also affects the eggs of bedbugs. One checker is enough to process 30 square meters. m. It takes the second place in efficiency after the Japanese one, but it costs several times cheaper.
Raptor
- "Pawn-B". It is characterized by the largest radius of action: one checker is enough to process a space of up to 300 square meters. m. It is used in agricultural premises and poisons, including animals and birds, plundering food supplies.
Pawn - B - Sulfur checker "Fas". It is used in non-residential premises, as in residential premises it causes poisoning in pets.
Checker "FAS" - "Super-fas". This version of the FAS model is less toxic. It is suitable only for the destruction of small colonies of parasites, however, it does much less harm to human health.
- "Quiet evening". Optimal for warehouses with volumes up to 1000 cubic meters. m.
Checker "Quiet evening" - "Vortex". It is in demand in the industry, as it does not provoke corrosion of equipment and at the same time destroys over 30 species of insects.
Smoke bomb "Whirlwind"
These products are recognized as leaders in their respective segments.
To avoid fakes when choosing an Asian-made checker, you must make sure that the chemical composition and the name of the manufacturer are indicated on the package.
Can I use it in an apartment?
The use of a smoke bomb in the apartment
For humans and mammals, cypermethrin is low toxic. According to the classification of GOST 12.1.007-76, it belongs to the 4th class of low-hazard compounds. Subject to the rules for the use of checkers, cypermethrin, accidentally hitting the human skin, will not give a sensitizing or irritating effect.
If we are talking about permethrin as such, due to its high toxicity, it is intended not for residential premises, but for industrial or agricultural facilities.
IMPORTANT: after reading the instructions for using the checker, it is advisable to double-check the information received on the Internet, since a mistake can be too expensive for health.
Advantages and disadvantages of using
Smoke bombs against bedbugs have the following advantages:
- High efficiency. The smoke penetrates absolutely all corners of the room, destroying including those insects that have hidden under the baseboards, wallpaper or upholstery. It is equally destructive for both adult parasites and larvae.
- Availability. On the Internet, it is very easy to find an online store with smoke bombs against bedbugs. In offline retail outlets, checkers are not as widely available as sprays and crayons, due to their increased health hazard. You can buy them at specialized stores for insecticides and gardening supplies. The cost of checkers starts at 100 rubles.
- Profitability. One checker is enough to clear a room of up to 300 m from bedbugs (if we are not talking about an aquafumigator).
- Versatility. Along with bedbugs, the smoke will destroy cockroaches, lice and molds that provoke the development of respiratory diseases in humans and animals.
The negative aspects of this method of pest control are as follows:
- Smoke can reach neighbors several floors up and down through ventilation pipes.
- If a fire alarm is installed in the room, it can be triggered.
- Intoxication due to breathing of permethrin, although unlikely, is still possible. This can happen if personal protective equipment was not used during the treatment of the room, if the room after treatment was not ventilated for a sufficient time, or if it was not wet cleaned. Not only people, but also pets can suffer from intoxication.
Japanese and Chinese manufacturers are actively working to create checkers optimized for use in apartment buildings.
Means shortcomings
The disadvantages of smoke bombs include several factors.
A widespread falsification of goods, it is easy to detect it only in the absence of records on the constituent substances of the smoke bomb.
Another disadvantage is that it is necessary to leave the premises at the time of processing. In this case, flammable objects are left unattended in the room. Therefore, there is a chance of an unforeseen circumstance, which means that a fire breaks out.
The remedy acts not only on bedbugs, but also on other flying insects.
The checker used in apartment buildings often causes panic among neighbors. In such a case, before processing, they should be warned about the process of destroying bedbugs.
Instructions and rules of application
With the help of checkers, it is allowed to carry out disinfestation of the following objects:
- apartments;
- private houses and summer cottages;
- hangars and storage facilities;
- industrial areas;
- garages;
- gardens and campgrounds;
- greenhouses and hotbeds.
Sometimes a one-time treatment is enough to completely get rid of the housing from blood-sucking parasites. However, to achieve a guaranteed result, it is recommended to repeat the procedure after 2 weeks, since the smoke affects only adult bugs and larvae, but not eggs.
Security measures
Pest control by means of smoke bombs should be carried out exclusively with personal protective equipment. They are put on before the direct use of the checkers, and they are removed only after the processing of the room is over and it is ventilated.
Ideal if you can find the opportunity to wear a full chemical protection suit. Otherwise, you will need a respirator, rubber gloves and safety glasses. Throw away gloves at the end of the treatment.
Wear personal protective equipment when lighting a smoke bomb
In extreme cases, instead of a full-fledged protective kit, it is permissible to use a gauze bandage dipped in a solution of soda: a teaspoon of soda is diluted in one glass of water and soaked in gauze.
People prone to allergic reactions and suffering from asthma, viral or bacterial diseases of the respiratory tract are categorically not recommended to carry out the treatment on their own.
Preparation for processing
In the room, all windows are tightly closed and the ventilation holes are sealed with tape. Food, hygiene items, electronics and clothing are carefully packed in an impervious shell so that they do not get saturated with smoke. All cabinets and drawers are opened so that the smoke can easily enter them. Furniture is taken apart and laid out in parts on the floor. Bed linen is removed from the mattresses and placed vertically, leaning against the wall. Fire sensors are disabled. There should be no objects in the room that will first come into contact with smoke and then come into direct contact with human skin.
Processing process
If the checker is inside the jar and is activated by contact with the liquid, this jar is filled with water up to the indicated mark.
If a checker has a wick, it is set on fire. For this, the product is placed on a sheet of metal, inside a metal bucket, in a ceramic container or on a brick. Burning checkers lasts 10-20 minutes.It is important that there are no flammable objects within its reach.
After that, the room is left for several hours - the exact time is indicated in the instructions for use for the checker. It takes a maximum of 2 minutes to leave the room - this is how much time the wick burns, after which the poisonous smoke will begin to enter the air.
Description and composition of the product
Smoke, or as it is also called a sulfur bomb from bedbugs, resembles an aerosol agent. However, it lacks the ability to control the smoke flow. Insecticidal smoke spreads on its own, penetrating into all hard-to-reach places and crevices. It permeates even fabric upholstery. Therefore, poisonous vapors will reach bloodsuckers in the inner parts of a sofa or bed - where it is sometimes very difficult to detect bedbug nests during visual inspection.
Smoke bombs
Smoke bombs are different in composition. They can contain powerful insecticidal components in the form of:
- Sulfur compounds that form sulfur dioxide during combustion. They are highly toxic compounds with insecticidal, antifungal and bactericidal properties. Therefore, sulfur checkers are used in damp rooms where there is a need to get rid of mold.
- Permethrin is a powerful insecticidal component that affects the insect's nervous system. The consequence of this effect is paralysis and death of the parasite.
- Hexachlorane is a toxic component that contains chlorine and has a neuroparalytic effect on parasites.
- Didecyldimethylammonium bromide is a substance with high bactericidal and fungicidal properties, which makes it possible to use such agents in agricultural facilities to combat fungal infections.
Important!
A smoke bomb from bedbugs in an apartment is not used due to the fact that highly toxic smoke seeping into the cracks and vents of ventilation holes or doors can pose a health hazard to the owners of neighboring apartments.
It is preferable to use smoke bombs in basements, garages, summer cottages, warehouses or hangars, as well as in private houses and cottages.
