Practice shows that self-made rat traps are more effective. After all, rats move from another shelter, where purchased traps and traps could be used. The animals will already bypass them.
Before getting started, you need to watch a video of making a rat trap of interest, so as not to miss the details, as well as take into account important aspects:
Rats are very intelligent, easy to train. And rat families are big. If one or two rats fall into the trap, then it becomes temporarily useless: the experience will not allow other individuals to get there. Therefore, it is better to have several options.
Rats are strong animals and can easily get out of the bucket. Therefore, buckets used for traps must be filled with water or high containers.
It is better to use lard, smoked meats, sausages - products with a strong smell as bait. Although the bread will also be good.
Craft symbol 2020 rat from a plastic bottle
Unfortunately, we do not always have the opportunity to purchase expensive materials in order to decorate our home. In this case, you have to be content with what is at hand. Such things that find application in creativity are called "waste material". And one of the most common varieties of it is plastic bottles.
To make a mouse from a plastic bottle, we need:
- Bottle with cap;
- Black and white paint;
- Dummy knife;
- Twine;
- White and pink cardboard;
- Plasticine;
- Black felt-tip pen.
Sequence:
We take a bottle and wash it thoroughly. And then we get rid of the paper sticker, if there is one, it will get in the way.
We paint the bottle from the inside white or gray. To do this, pour a little paint of the desired shade into the container and shake the bottle (of course, after closing the lid) so that its entire surface is painted. Let it dry. In parallel, we paint the lid black - this is the nose of the toy.
Using a mock knife, we make slots in the bottle and insert two ears made of white and pink cardboard there.
Add details: a twine ponytail, plastic or paper antennae, eyes. In order for the mouse to be New Year's, you can wrap it with silver tinsel - it will look like fur.
Let's see what other rats can be made from plastic bottles. How do you like these handsome men?
This is an option for a garden or vegetable garden. Not New Year's at all. But, I think, the principle of creation is clear, and in general this idea can be taken as a basis for creating and New Year's crafts.
But this mouse-piggy bank looks more like a pig. But the author of MK confidently calls it a mouse, so I also give you an example.
This is the kind of rat you can make from a plastic bottle. Realistic, don't you agree? Look, her eyes are even red. Impressive, but I'm not sure that such a toy will create a festive atmosphere.
Well, here's another option I caught my eye. In principle, with proper decoration, it can also become a symbol of the New Year. The idea is quite interesting.
Fishing rules
Rats are quite cunning and intelligent animals, so it can be difficult to catch them in traps.In order for the measures for the destruction of rodents to be effective, it is necessary to adhere to the following rules:
- Before starting fishing, you need to block access to natural food sources of pests. To do this, you need to carefully check all cabinets and pantries for holes, transfer cereals and flour into sealed packages, remove food leftovers from the table and do not leave any products in the open. In addition, you need to maintain a good level of hygiene in the house or apartment and take out the trash regularly. Rodents, deprived of their usual food and forced to search for food, are much more likely to fall for the bait.
- Traps must be set correctly. To do this, you need to know the approximate location of the pests. The best places for traps are the entrances to the burrows and the space between them, as well as the area near the walls. It also makes sense to place the bait in areas where there is a large amount of rat feces. Traps in open spaces, such as in the center of a room, are ineffective because rodents tend to hide, stick to walls, and walk upright.
- Rats are animals with a very delicate sense of smell, so the traps for them must be clean. Rodent traps must be thoroughly disinfected and washed before each use to remove odors from previously caught animals and human hands. For the same reason, you need to make a trap with rubber gloves.
- To catch a pest, you need to choose the right bait. It should be a product with a strong odor - smoked or fresh meat, slightly scorched bacon, sausage, minced meat, fish, bread soaked in vegetable oil. Cheese is not always effective. The bait must be changed periodically to keep it attractive to rats.
- You need to choose traps of appropriate quality. This is especially true in cases where the rat is caught alive - then products made of materials that it can easily chew through will be ineffective. If part of the trap is adjacent to a wall or floor, you also need to take care that the rodent does not damage them. When catching large rats, it is worth choosing traps from which this rather large animal will not be able to get out and which will not be able to throw.
It is also worth noting that any contact with rats should take care of safety and personal hygiene. It is possible to take out a live or dead rodent from the trap only with rubber gloves.
You need to do this as carefully as possible to avoid bites and scratches. Even the smallest wounds inflicted by a rat can cause serious infections, so it must be immediately disinfected and washed.
How to make a rat out of socks
If plastic bottles as a material did not impress you very much, I propose to consider another master class. It is dedicated to making these unusually soapy mice out of socks.
Just lovely.
From materials we need:
- Sock;
- Scissors;
- Soft filler;
- Thread with a needle;
- Felt pen to do the markup.
Sequence:
We start by drawing the outlines of the body and ears of the toy on the sock turned inside out. Where the line is interrupted in the diagram, the workpiece will not need to be sewn right away: these are holes for filling.
When we have sewn the details, we turn them out and fill them with something soft where there are holes left. For example, a padding polyester.
Cut out the tail from the elastic band from the sock. We insert it into the hole on the body of the mouse and carefully sew it up.
We do the same with the ears.
Well, at the end, add details: eyes, antennae and nose. What is the best way to make them - come up with yourself. Here, for example, the author took a pompom and buttons, and made a mustache from ordinary threads.
These are the funny little animals that should turn out.
From socks you can make not only such cute animals, but also a very realistic rat.
Or you can - and here's such a funny character.
Also an option for making a mouse from a sock. Striped.
Absolutely adorable little animals with buttons instead of noses. Very cute, aren't they? And, as it seems to me, they look very stylish.
How do you like this baby?
"Three girls under the window ...")) Just a fairy tale.
Would you cuddle this one?
In general, as you can see, from ordinary socks you can get just a lot of a variety of rat pups.
But, of course, you need certain skills. If you are not very fond of sewing, perhaps you will like the next master class more.
Basic methods of struggle
Man fought with rats in his home hundreds of years ago. Since then, methods of controlling these pests have developed and improved, but the adaptability of rodents has also grown, having learned to avoid traps and poisons. Now, to get rid of rats, the following methods are most often used:
- Poisons and chemicals. A cheap and effective method used to control large populations of pests. It has one significant drawback, which is that a poisoned rat often dies in a hard-to-reach place, decomposing and spreading a cadaveric smell. It is because of this nuance that it is recommended to use traps in a residential building or apartment, especially if you need to catch only a few rodents.
- Lethal rat traps. There are many variations of such devices, from the simplest mechanical traps to electric murderers. Of their advantages, one can single out the fact that the corpse of the animal remains trapped and can be easily thrown away or burned. To catch a rat at home, this method is most often used.
- Non-lethal traps. More gentle versions of rat traps that do not harm the animal, but only lock it in a confined space. This approach is humane, but often ineffective, since a rodent released into the wild can return, bringing his family with him, and killing him on his own takes unnecessary strength and can cause moral discomfort to some people. Non-lethal traps can be used to capture an escaped decorative rat.
- Scarers. Various chemical and biological substances that do not kill rodents, but scare them away from human dwellings, preventing their further spread and penetration into living quarters. Usually laid out at the entrance to the rat holes. To breed rats, substances such as mint, bay leaves and fresh onions are used. Sometimes cat litter or owl feathers are used - rodents smell their natural enemies and try to avoid their habitats. However, the effectiveness of such methods has not yet been confirmed.
- Pets. The most ancient, but therefore no less effective assistant in the fight against rats is a cat or a cat. Some dog breeds specially bred for this purpose are also good at fighting rodents. It is worth noting that the effectiveness of this method largely depends on the nature and upbringing of the animal - a pet that has never encountered rats or mice before may not show interest in them. It should also be remembered that especially large or numerous rats may well enter into a fight with a cat or dog and inflict injury on them.
Prevention of rat invasion is considered to be the observance of sanitary conditions in the room. This is especially true for pantries and warehouses in which food is stored.
Workshop on creating crafts in the form of a mouse out of paper
The material that we will use here is plain paper and cardboard. The instruction is very simple and perfect for teaching children of kindergarten or primary school age.
We will need:
- Glue;
- Scissors;
- Colored paper and cardboard;
- Black felt-tip pen.
Sequence:
The first thing we need to do is cut out these details. Everything except the body is made of paper. The body is made of cardboard so that the toy is stable.
You choose the colors yourself.
We begin to glue the head of our mouse. The eyes can not be cut out separately, but drawn with a black felt-tip pen.
We attach the ears to it.
Here is such a cute little face.
Roll up the cone from the blank for the body and glue it.
We attach the head to the body.
We put the paws on the glue.
And a ponytail.
Completes everything with an apron. I don't think it's worth explaining how to do it. The craft is ready! We decorate with tinsel and other decor as we wish and plant it under the Christmas tree - and the New Year's keeper of the family hearth is ready.
You can also make a New Year's mouse out of paper using the origami technique.
Look how lovely it turns out.
In fact, tinkering with something complicated is not at all necessary. Sometimes the simpler, the nicer it is.
But, of course, if you want, you can spend a little more time. As, for example, did the author of the following work.
How to sew a mouse from felt fabric (+ pattern)
Since we are talking about making toys, I cannot help dwelling on the classic technique for this type of creativity - sewing from fabric. In this case, it will be felt fabric, from which we will make such a wonderful mouse here:
Making it will not be difficult at all, even if you do not have special skills.
Necessary materials:
- Needle and thread of different thickness;
- Felt;
- Scissors;
- Black beads;
- Soft filler.
Sequence:
Cut out templates for toy parts from paper. The dimensions are shown in the photo.
We need two pieces for each part.
Sew the torso. First, we only sew the back, leave the tummy intact.
We make ears from gray and pink felt. We also do not sew them to the end.
Cut or knit a ponytail. We sew it to the body along with the tummy of the mouse.
We turn all the details inside out.
And then we fill everything with filler. Holofiber is used here.
We sew it up.
Sew on the ears. We make eyes and a nose from beads.
All is ready!
Fabric toys always look very cozy. That is why they will perfectly complement any interior.
These can be both complex products and very simple ones.
Such a hostess on New Year's Eve will definitely make sure that the holiday is perfect.
And this sweetheart will simply cheer up all the guests!
The mouse (left), made in this style, looks no less cute.
But these kids can even be hung on the Christmas tree along with balls and other toys.
Mouse on cheese
Another craft that caught my attention is the Mouse on the Cheese. Moreover, the cheese is made of a yellow plastic container and pasted over with white paper with holes - it seems that the animal is sitting on the cheese.
The Mouse itself is skillfully made of wire and thread. I think it was not without the participation of an adult. The craft is technically difficult.
Thread rat
The next selection with a description showing how to make a mouse from threads. This is also a rather unusual technique, I think you will be interested.
Materials:
- Foil;
- Black and pink nail polishes;
- Scissors;
- Woolen threads;
- Moment glue.
Sequence:
Cut off a piece of foil.
And we make from it the basis for our future rodent.
Now we need a small piece of yarn. We will make ears from it.
We take a thread and tighten a loop on it according to the scheme shown below.
Then we make another one of the same size next to it.
We fix the knots by dropping glue on them.
And we attach to our base.
Now grease the foil a little with glue (so that the yarn does not slip) and wrap the entire surface of the toy with threads from nose to tail.
Let the product dry.
Next, we make a tail from a small thread.
Cut off a little, if necessary.
We draw eyes and a nose with nail polish.
Done! Here we have such a cute toy.
But do not think that only simple crafts are created using this technique. See how many different options the masters have come up with!
Very funny, isn't it?
Insanely cute symbols of the New Year!
Folk remedies
Rats have interfered with humans for many millennia, so over the years many ways have been invented to catch them. Nowadays, some of them are used quite often and help to effectively fight the rodent population.
Folk remedies can be used to get rid of rats.
The most famous means are:
- Rats are wary of cats, so they will not come close to a room in which the smell of a domestic predator is present. If it is not possible to have a live pet, then you can use its dry food. It is laid out in places where rats can live and left there for several weeks. Owl feathers have a similar effect.
- Rodents hate the smell of mint. To use it for pest control, you need to put the leaves of the plant in the habitat of the mammal.
- Ground pepper. This healthy seasoning can become the strongest poison for rats, as their body immediately loses its ability to function normally. It is enough to sprinkle a small amount of pepper near the entrance to the shelter to get rid of uninvited guests.
- Rodents are not picky about their food. They can be planted with a bay leaf, which has a detrimental effect on them. Onions work in the same way.
Crochet crocheted amigurumi-style mouse (diagrams and descriptions)
For everyone who is fond of knitting, I have selected a lot of all kinds of instructions and master classes so that you can succeed. Have fun creating toys in the form of mice and enchant everyone. By the way, there is another selection on the blog, so check it out there too).
And here is a round souvenir, this is a mouse ball.
Trap cage
For manufacturing, you will need a strong steel mesh, panels of wood and metal, for the trigger - a spring.
The trap door opens upward with spring tension. A gatehouse with a hook at the end of the cage is attached to it. The bait is put on the hook. The rat pulls on the bait and the door slams.
Origami rat mice for kids
Everyone knows that kids are very fond of fiddling with paper, which they don't do with it, airplanes and boats are already a traditional occupation. How about teaching them how to add New Year's symbols? Do you think you will not like it? Surely such an occupation will only please them.
Make origami rat souvenirs. I attach the folding schemes, choose and create with the kids.
And even easier, the model:
But this one is more interesting.
Well, here we are with you and learned how to make wonderful mice and rats for the New Year 2020. I personally have already had a bunch of ideas for creating decorations for my home in the form of a symbol of the upcoming holiday. And you? I hope that too. I congratulate everyone and wish that interest in creating something with your own hands appears not only in winter. Until next time!
