The first mention of the black rose is associated with the city of Halfeti (Turkey). It was there that flowers with absolutely black petals grew, which they began to cross with roses. When Euphrates overflowed the banks and flooded this city, this shrub, blooming with black roses, was ranked as an endangered variety.

Features of planting black roses

These flowers are hybrids of a new generation and are much less demanding to care for than earlier-breeding rose bushes. However, some features when growing black roses should be known:

these new varieties are more resistant to frost and generally tolerate frosts well down to -20 ° C. But nevertheless, in the central regions of our country, they will have to be sheltered for the winter, since often in the middle of winter the thermometer in these regions can drop much lower;
bushes should be regularly trimmed, and not only unnecessary shoots should be removed, but also damaged and old branches. Flowers that do not bloom for the first season are necessarily pruned every fall;
black roses are used not only to decorate flower beds, but also in alpine hills, as well as to create hedges;
in order for this shrub to bloom throughout the season, it requires certain agrotechnical measures.

Black roses are not recommended to be planted in areas where direct sunlight falls on them in the middle of the day. It is better that the roses grow in an area where there is enough warmth, and the sunlight is diffused. Direct sunlight reduces the decorative qualities of black flowers - they fade and fade faster. In addition, foliage in direct sunlight can be severely burned and also killed.
