Prestige from the Colorado potato beetle - instructions for use, for potatoes and tomatoes

general information

This pest control agent has been known on the market for a long time, but it does not give up its leading positions to this day. This can be explained due to the large number of advantages of Prestige:

  • they need to process potatoes just before planting;
  • preparing the solution is very simple, the main thing is to follow the instructions;
  • due to the excellent qualities of Prestige, you do not need to use it several times, which significantly saves money and physical effort;
  • the drug helps to get rid of not only the Colorado potato beetle, but also protects against diseases, bacteria and other pests (bear, beetle larvae, wireworms and others), which also do not mind eating juicy tubers;
  • processed vegetables become more hardy, withstand well both heat and high humidity; the growth of shoots and tubers is accelerated;
  • tubers remain absolutely safe for human health, since Prestige belongs to drugs with a low level of toxicity;
  • as a result of the fact that only seeds are subject to processing, all plants planted nearby are absolutely not amenable to any chemical action.

Among all this variety of positive properties, the described drug also has one significant drawback: it is allowed to be used only on those varieties of potatoes that grow until the moment of collection for at least two months.

According to the manufacturers of this drug, all chemicals are completely neutralized only after 60 days from the date of treatment.

As a result, you should not use Prestige for early varieties of potatoes, it is better in this case to choose late or mid-late varieties.

Testimonials

I personally began to use it not only from the Colorado potato beetle, but also from other pests that began to appear in large numbers and destroy potato tubers - in particular, we had a lot of wireworms in the soil on our site.

The plot for potatoes takes about 15-20 acres, but the main problems begin when there is a fight against the Colorado potato beetle and various weeds, for example, wheatgrass, which the wireworm feeds on. Of course, weeds can be used to judge the composition of the soil, I wrote about this here, and how you can reduce garden pests with the help of medicinal plants has already been written in the last article.

But again, the experiment is more likely to succeed if the site is separated from neighbors, and is kept in small sizes, such as where we plant vegetables and garden plants.

The prestige from the Kloradsky beetle helps us a lot, we use it every year. It is enough to use it once before planting, and until the end of the potato ripening season, the Colorado potato beetle does not bother us. Although the neighbors for the entire summer period go up to 10 times and spray the potatoes with chemicals. But there is also a disadvantage of using this drug: from the wireworm, as they say in the instructions, it practically does not help.

  • Nadezhda: “Despite the fact that I have always held a negative opinion about the insecticides used, last year the damned beetle got me too.I used to collect it with my hands all the time, but its amount just increases before our eyes every year, so I had to try a chemical attack on the parasite. Among all the drugs, it was Prestige who inspired the greatest confidence, so I bought it. I was very interested in the opportunity to process the tubers just once and avoid these problems for the whole season. We agreed with a neighbor (we have a purely conditional border between vegetable gardens) that they will use it together, and left one "control" plot as it is. As a result, the drug really worked: there were much fewer beetles in the field than usual, we can say that such a number can be dealt with manually. The control plot was eaten at the root, although it had to be collected there too (to be honest, my nerves could not stand it). Next year I will definitely use it again, the main thing is that the pest does not taste and does not get used to it. " It is also worth learning more about how to fertilize the soil before planting potatoes.
  • Ivan: “I have been growing potatoes all my life, I have long noticed that every year it is more difficult to protect plantings from the Colorado infection. Not to mention folk methods, not all chemicals can cope. On the advice of a friend, I used Prestige last year. I am pleased with the result, there were practically no beetles, I saw the maximum number only immediately before harvesting. I doubt, to be honest, that it is absolutely harmless to our body, but after all, beetles gradually get used to any chemistry, and we will also get used to it. In addition, purchased potatoes in any case withstand many chemical treatments, and here, even if pickled, but kind of "home". "

Prestige from the Colorado potato beetle: instructions for use

The drug is available in the form of a concentrated liquid suspension, which is diluted with water immediately before use. The dosage depends on the route of administration.

It is noteworthy that the tool is used mainly for dressing potatoes before planting. The vegetable itself does not suffer from this, and the active substance, dissolving in the soil, protects the planting material not only from pests, but also from fungal diseases. However, to achieve the maximum effect, it is advisable to process the soil and planting material together with neighbors so that pathogens and pest larvae do not spread from site to site.

I advise you a new natural remedy for joint pain relief - it regenerates cartilage and joint tissue. Want to try?

Thus, it can be argued that Prestige is not only an effective insecticide, but also a fungicide that will help to cope with many problems that arise in the process of growing potatoes.

The composition of the preparation is such that its active ingredients not only protect tubers from negative environmental factors, but also have a beneficial effect on the state of the planting material itself. Tubers treated with this agent tolerate high temperatures and lack of moisture much better, grow much faster, and the finished crop has an attractive presentation.

The main difference between Prestige and other chemicals intended for the treatment of agricultural crops is that it contains not one, but several active substances (Figure 1). The first substance, imidacloprid, is aimed at killing insects. Once inside the body of the Colorado potato beetle, the chemical affects the nervous system of the beetle, causing paralysis and death of the insect. The second substance, pencycuron, is a fungicide and protects tubers from powdery mildew and other fungal diseases.

Since Prestige belongs to chemicals, many fear that the active ingredients will remain in the tubers even after processing, and will be contained in the harvest.This opinion is erroneous, since all chemical compounds that penetrate the tubers during processing, as the plant grows, rise up the tops, but do not penetrate into the young formed tubers.

Gardeners give some helpful tips on how to use this drug correctly in order to get the expected results.

  1. If you plan to use Prestige with growth stimulants or other pesticides, it is recommended that you first conduct a drug compatibility test. For this, the solutions should be mixed and if a precipitate appears, then the selected means should not be used together.
  2. The dosage of the Prestige from the Colorado potato beetle, which is described in the instructions, must be observed. If you do not take this rule into account, then you can significantly harm the plant.
  3. The effectiveness directly depends on how evenly and correctly the spraying was carried out.
  4. The chemical begins its effect immediately from the moment of treatment.
  5. If you know what Prestige from the Colorado potato beetle is and instructions for using this tool, then do not forget that potato tubers cannot be cut. In addition, it is forbidden to use this preparation on potato varieties that have a ripening period of less than 60 days.

If you want to protect the eggplant from insects, you can apply the chemical to the seedlings, as described below. In addition, the processing of eggplant with Prestige can be carried out with the help of watering. First, a solution is prepared, for which 2 cubes of the drug are added to 1 liter of water. The instructions for use indicate that watering should be carried out exclusively at the root, since getting the product on the bushes is undesirable, because this can lead to the development of problems. Do not use too much solution, which is also harmful.

The second option involves applying the chemical to the roots of the plant. It is suitable not only for tomatoes, but also for eggplant, cabbage and peppers. Processing tomatoes with Prestige means preparing a solution, as in the previous instructions for use: 1 liter of water and 2 cubes of the product. Lower the seedlings by their roots into a container with the prepared liquid and leave it for 6-8 hours. Make sure that the stems of the plants are not in the solution. After that, the landing is carried out immediately.

To protect potatoes from dangerous insects, you should spray the tubers. To do this, prepare a solution following the instructions for use:

  1. In a bucket of water, dilute the Prestige Potato Treatment using a 1:20 ratio.
  2. Arrange the selected tubers in one row, and then spray evenly with the prepared solution.
  3. After the surface is dry, turn the potatoes over and spray again.
  4. When the tubers are completely dry, you can plant. Please note that the earlier they are planted, the better the defense effect will be.

Long before the start of the summer cottage season, we begin to prepare for the battle for the harvest. We buy the best varieties of plants and equipment, all kinds of fertilizers and pest control products. Anticipating unprecedented harvests, sometimes we don't even think about whether all means of protection against pests are good and harmless.

Prestige from the Colorado potato beetle - instructions for use, for potatoes and tomatoes

Unlike our parents, who used various infusions from insecticidal plants for this purpose, we trust chemistry more and more every year. The number of drugs is growing from year to year, labels are becoming brighter and more and more insistent assurances of the magical properties of various agents.

Precautions and analogues of Prestige

Correct application, adherence to the timing of application will help to get a good harvest, as well as not harm human health.

If it is necessary to carry out treatment with other fungicides, soil protection agents, it is imperative to carry out a test connection of liquids.Verification is also carried out for the connection with pesticides, tank mixtures.

Prestige has no analogues. Sales are made in specialized stores. The capacity of a natural product is from 1 liter. The minimum volume is 20 ml. Available in 60 and 150 ml.

Slightly reminiscent of a fungicide:

  • Confidor. The most approximate tool;
  • Aktara and Aktellik - to eliminate parasites, but without additional properties;
  • Mospilan eliminates the threat of infection of harmful insects. Kills not only an adult, but also larvae;
  • It is often recommended to use folk methods of protection. As a rule, organic products are used (tobacco, marigolds, garlic, calendula). Plants are planted between the beds.

Chemical composition

The Prestige treater contains two active ingredients: imidacloprid and pencycuron, which is a fungicide that protects plants from scab, powdery mildew, and other fungal diseases. And imidacloprid is an insecticide aimed at destroying pests. When exposed to a humid environment, it creates a protective halo around the pickled tuber.

The chemical "Prestige" in terms of toxicity belongs to the 3rd class, that is, it is considered quite safe, provided that all necessary measures are taken when working with it. During processing, it is advisable to use gloves, a mask and protective clothing, and to prepare the working solution, it is better to select a separate dish. It is also necessary to limit the access of children and animals to both the con and the prepared solution.

The main component of the poison against the Colorado potato beetle Prestige is imidacloprid (one liter of Prestige contains 140 g), which is characterized by excellent contact and systemic action.

In addition, it also contains pencycuron. Its quantity in one bottle is 150 g. Thanks to these two components, potato tubers grow faster and become less susceptible to the influence of the Colorado potato beetle, as well as other pathogens.

The insecticide contains chemical compounds aimed at fighting insects and fungi. Therefore, it must be stored in a dark, dry room, not allowing the temperature in it to rise above 40 degrees or drop below -20 degrees. Violation of the storage temperature can lead to the fact that the active ingredients will lose their effectiveness.

Since the product is a chemical, it must be stored separately from food or water. Also, children or pets should not be allowed to have access to the drug.

The shelf life of the substance is 2 years, however, the ready-made working solution itself must be used immediately after preparation. As a rule, one bottle of the drug is enough to process all tubers intended for planting, and Prestige is not stored until the next season.

In more detail, the technology for processing tubers is shown in the video.

How harmful it is

Prestige belongs to the 3rd hazard class (like other insecticides from beetles). This means that all work must be carried out in personal protective equipment and avoid ingress of solution particles on the skin, mucous membranes and in the respiratory tract.

But, do not rush to be upset. Studies have shown that the insecticides that make up the drug completely decompose into components that are harmless to humans within 50-60 days. This means that when harvested on time, you will get a clean crop of potatoes that do not contain harmful substances.

Record harvests with Prestige

Before writing this article, I visited many forums and communities of gardeners. And what did I learn? The forums of farmers and gardeners are full of enthusiastic reviews about the results of using the Prestige treater.Those who grow potatoes and vegetables on an industrial scale speak especially eloquently about him, and, therefore, they do not put the issues of environmental cleanliness in the first place.

In such farms, of course, the yield and the amount of processing costs are at the forefront. As practice shows, using Prestige for dressing seed potatoes, potato growers save not only money, but also labor costs. Since the preparations to which the pests have already adapted, require several treatments during the growing season.

Processing potatoes before planting taboo

“Tabu” is an insecticide for pre-planting treatment of potato tubers in order to protect plants from a complex of pests in personal subsidiary plots. Active ingredient: Imidacloprid, 500 g / l.

Protective period

Colorado potato beetle - at least 30 days after germination (during the development of 1 generation), wireworms - during the growing season.

Waiting period

60 days, frequency of treatments -1

Insecticidal systemic dressing agent for treating seeds of a wide range of agricultural crops against seedling pests Advantages: protection of cultivated plants in the most vulnerable period for them - at the stage of seedlings a long period of protective action cost savings due to the abolition of several insecticidal sprays during the growing season destruction of pest populations that have developed resistance to drugs for based on carbofuran, control of sucking pests - carriers of viral diseases, effective action regardless of environmental conditions; systemic insecticide for dressing seeds of agricultural crops in order to protect plants from a complex of pests of seedlings. Active ingredient: imidacloprid belongs to the class of neonicotinoids.

Spectrum of action: Taboo is effective against wireworms on potatoes, corn, sunflowers; a complex of seedling pests on wheat, barley, fiber flax, rapeseed, sugar beets, soybeans; Colorado potato beetle on potatoes. The drug also protects crops from aphids that carry viral diseases.

The mechanism of action of the drug: imidacloprid is characterized by an acute contact-intestinal effect on pests of agricultural crops. Tabu has a pronounced systemic activity, penetrates into seedlings and young plants through leaves and roots.

Speed of exposure: the drug quickly suppresses the transmission of signals through the central nervous system of insects, from which they initially lose motor activity, stop feeding, and then die within a day.

Features of the drug: Tabu preparative form is a modern complex formulation, which includes, in addition to active ingredients, a bright signal dye, an adhesive, a wetting agent, special dispersants, a thickener, and antifreeze.

Prestige

Its colossal advantage lies in the fact that it ensures uniform application of the active substances to the seeds and the creation on their surface of a very high-quality, dyed, sufficiently strong film of the drug, which does not crumble after drying.

Phytoxicity: absent in the recommended consumption rates Potential for resistance development: in order to avoid the emergence of resistance Taboo should be alternated with insecticides of other chemical classes.

Storage conditions: it is necessary to store the drug in warehouses specially designed for pesticides, in hermetically sealed, undamaged original packaging at a storage temperature from minus 10 to plus 40 ° C. Shelf life: 3 years (subject to storage conditions).

While the potato bushes are small, and the gardener still has a lot of energy (plus a great desire to grow a clean crop), the beetles are harvested by hand. And not only them: hatched larvae, laying of eggs - all this must be collected with subsequent destruction.

Until the potatoes have risen, baits are prepared for the beetles: cut potatoes, aged for five hours in a solution of karbofos or chlorophos (4 tablespoons of the product are taken per liter of water), are laid out on the site.

Those who came to the "dining room" and did not die of poison, gather together with a treat and are destroyed. Later, green "warriors" come into play: gardeners prepare infusions of wormwood, elecampane, poplar leaves and sprinkle potato bushes with them.

In addition, after hilling, the aerial part of the plant is powdered with wood ash. But there comes a time when the number of larvae on one bush exceeds a dozen.

Here folk remedies become powerless, the owner fills the sprayer with poison and a chemical fight against the Colorado potato beetle begins.

Mospilan

This remedy for the Colorado potato beetle lasts for almost a month. And all because the poison is not washed off the plant during the rain.

Mospilan adheres to the surface of the tops and protects it from several generations with the guise of the Colorado potato beetle. In addition, Mospilan has a tendency to gradually spread along the tops, so even if you did not cover every millimeter of the potato leaf with the agent, the beetles and larvae will still overtake death. Insects begin to die within a couple of hours after spraying.

Prestige drug

Mospilan is not dangerous for bumblebees and bees, birds, does not harm potatoes and has low toxicity to humans. An important advantage of this drug is that it does not accumulate in potatoes.

Fictional "pros" or contrived "cons"

But no matter how much the properties of the Prestige dressing agent are praised, many gardeners have well-founded fears. Judging by the safety measures that need to be applied when working with the drug, the substance is quite toxic. The instructions say about the third class of toxicity, which means that the drug is moderately hazardous. In any case, this is how this indicator is interpreted by the classifier of toxic drugs of the Ministry of Health.

And, nevertheless, it is better to be more careful, although the manufacturer's recommendations are quite understandable and explainable. Namely - to carry out all work in a mask and gloves. Actually, as with other toxic preparations with the Prestige dressing agent, you must follow the instructions and precautions. As for the harm from the use of vegetables and potatoes for food, which have undergone preprocessing treatment by "Prestige", the fears are not well founded, as can be considered from the numerous reviews left.

If the terms, the dilution ratio and the quality of the disinfectant are observed, no harm to health can be caused. Producers are convinced that the decay period of harmful compounds lasts no more than 60 days, later they completely disappear from the potato tubers.

It is for this reason that it is not recommended to process seed potatoes of early varieties, since the components of the preparation do not have time to completely decompose. As a result, there may be unpleasant consequences after eating potatoes.

So when using Prestige, you should take seriously all the warnings and recommendations of the manufacturer. There is always an alternative ... In contrast to such ineffective measures, the Prestige treater works for sure and does not require additional treatments. Well, for skeptical biointensives and organ farmers, there are always alternative methods of pest and disease control.

Compatibility with other drugs

Before combining the poison from the Colorado potato beetle Prestige with other means aimed at destroying harmful insects, weeds, root crop diseases, as well as drugs that can stimulate growth, they need to be tested (what are the best drugs for the Colorado potato beetle, you can find out here, and here you can read about other effective means of dealing with this pest).

It is necessary to mix the selected product together with Prestige in equal proportions. After a short amount of time, you should look at the resulting liquid and check if there is any sediment in it. If this still happens, you should not combine these components with each other.

When to apply?

Tubers (almost the entire surface) are sprayed immediately before planting or 2-3 weeks before. In the latter case, the sprayed potatoes are put in bags or boxes and wait for the sprouts to appear.

As a result of the fact that this tool makes the potatoes more resistant to weather conditions, there is no difference in what time the planting will take place: in the heat or in light rain.

Before use, you must carefully study the instructions and prepare everything you need. The drug is toxic, so it is advisable to provide a protective suit, goggles, gloves and a mask. The processing is carried out in the open air, after sprinkling the planting material on a moisture-proof substrate. And here's how to use chicken manure as a fertilizer for potatoes, and how effective it is. set out here.

It is very important to consider the following nuances:

  1. The planting potato tubers must be dry and undamaged.
  2. They must be evenly distributed over the surface of the substrate in one layer.
  3. For even distribution of the product, it is necessary to use special equipment (sprayer of various modifications).
  4. The prepared solution is used immediately, the rest of the product cannot be stored.
  5. Processing is carried out immediately before planting in order to maximize the effectiveness of the drug.
  6. If potatoes are of early varieties, the Prestige treatment cannot be carried out.
  7. The tubers should dry out a little before planting so that the product is better fixed.
  8. A mixture is prepared at the rate of 10 ml of the drug per 100 ml of water. Usually, this amount is enough to process 10 kilograms of seed.
  9. The protection period is 40 days, after which the drug disintegrates. No active components of the preparation were found in potato tubers after this period.
  10. Two hours after processing, the potatoes are ready for planting.

We suggest that you familiarize yourself with: Method of using hellebore water against lice

In addition to its protective properties, the drug has an anti-stress effect on the plant. It makes it easier to tolerate adverse weather conditions, uneven watering or replanting. Such opportunities allow using Prestige for prophylaxis, you just need to adhere to the manufacturer's instructions. But how to use ash as fertilizer for potatoes, and how effective this tool is, is described in this video.

The drug can be used not only before planting tubers in the ground, but also during further vegetation. As mentioned above, the agent is a liquid suspension that is diluted with water in the required proportion, which depends on the processing method.

Instructions for using Prestige, depending on the method of use, will look like this:

  1. Pre-planting treatment: dressing the tubers before planting guarantees reliable protection against diseases and pests during the entire growing season. In this case, the drug is diluted in the following dosage: 50 ml of concentrate is taken for 2-3 liters of water. This amount should be enough to process 50 kg of potatoes, and it is best to pickle clooney by spraying. The potatoes must be laid out on a film, sprayed with the preparation and allowed to dry. To increase efficiency, after the solution has dried, the tubers must be turned over to the other side and the procedure must be repeated (Figure 2).
  2. Before germination: Poison from the Colorado potato beetle can also be applied before germinating the tubers. In this case, the drug must be used in advance, 20 days before disembarkation. For such a treatment, you need to dilute 30 ml of the suspension in 600 ml of water and spray the tubers with the resulting solution. The substance must dry, after which the potatoes are sent for germination. To increase efficiency, the tubers can be re-processed just before planting using a solution of the same concentration.
  3. Seedling processing: Colorado potato beetle and fungal diseases can affect not only potatoes, but also seedlings of other vegetable crops, for example, tomatoes, eggplants and bell peppers. To avoid such troubles, seedlings can also be treated with Prestige. In this case, 10 ml of the concentrate is diluted in 1 liter of water and the roots of the plants are immersed in the resulting liquid for 8 hours. After this treatment, the sprouts are immediately planted in open ground.

Potato treatment with Prestige
Figure 2. Preplanting tubers

Regardless of the chosen processing method, the working solution is prepared immediately before use, since it loses its properties during storage.

Despite the fact that Prestige can be used to process a wide variety of garden crops, it is most often used precisely to protect potatoes. Due to the characteristics of the drug itself, it is not the plants themselves that need to be sprayed with chemicals, but the tubers that will be planted in the ground.

In general, Prestige can be used for dressing tubers immediately before planting, and in advance, at the stage of their germination. In the first case, a working solution is prepared, consisting of 50 ml of a suspension diluted in 3 liters of water. This amount of solution is enough for dressing 50 kg of tubers.

If you want to protect the potatoes as much as possible from the Colorado potato beetle, it is better to carry out the processing in advance, during germination, that is, about 2 weeks before planting in the ground. To do this, take 30 ml of a chemical for 600 ml of water and spray it onto the potatoes. Then the substance should dry and the tubers can be left for germination. Re-treatment with the same concentrate is carried out immediately before planting.

It often happens that the tubers intended for planting in the ground are too large, and they are cut to increase the amount of planting material. However, if you plan to process potatoes with Prestige, this is not recommended.

Since Prestige is considered toxic, care must be taken when diluting it in water. First, to prepare the working solution, you need to use plastic utensils that are not used for storing or processing food. It is better to immediately allocate a separate bucket for this purpose, which you will use for breeding poisons in the future. The detailed dosage for the preparation of the working solution is shown in Table 1.

CultureSolution concentrationTerms of usePurpose of protection
Potatoes150 ml / 1.5-3 l of water - for 150 kg of planting potatoesSpray the tubers evenly before planting, mix the seed thoroughlyColorado potato beetle, thrips, aphids, wireworms
Pepper, tomatoes, cabbage, eggplant150 ml / 15 l of waterSoak the root system of the planting material in the solution for 6-8 hours before plantingMoth, Colorado potato beetle, aphids, thrips, fleas
Fruit trees, forest and berry crops20 ml / 1 l of water - for 35-40 seedlingsAdd to the "chatterbox" (0.7 kg of clay, 0.8 kg of humus, 1 liter of water). Moisten the root system of the seedlings before planting.Soil parasites, flukes, leaf-eating pests

Secondly, it is advisable to use soft rainwater to prepare the solution, and the chemical should be poured into it gradually, constantly stirring the liquid. This will completely dissolve the substance in the water.

In addition, it is best to wear gloves when preparing the solution so that the chemical does not get on your hands or mucous membranes. Also, poultry or animals should not be allowed to drink water with a chemical.

How to poison

Prestige treatment is carried out on the day the potatoes are planted.

Important!

Important! Since the substance belongs to hazard class 3, before starting work, you should take care of purchasing a respirator and rubber gloves in order to minimize possible contact with active substances. Follow the safety rules and this procedure will go unnoticed for you.

  1. First of all, you should roughly calculate the mass of the seedlings and evenly spread them on the oilcloth, sprouts up.
  2. Next, an insecticide solution is prepared. 10 kg. potatoes need to take 10 ml. Prestige and dilute them in 100 ml. warm water.
