Violet Magic of love

Violet Magic of love
Violets E. Korshunova always amaze with the size of flowers. The violet Magic of love shown in the photo is no exception, regularly pampering the owner with thick double star-shaped flowers, more reminiscent of pompoms in shape. The color of the flowers is densely burgundy, with a beet shade. Elegant white edging along the edge of the petals. The leaf rosette is even, of a beautiful green color.

Germination and planting

Now let's talk about the reproduction of violets Green Rose. The flowers are fairly easy to germinate. If you saw a beautiful plant from friends, you can simply ask to separate one single leaf from it. Of course, it is advisable to choose an even, beautiful and large leaf, and not from the edge, but directly from the center - they receive the most nutrients, making them the most viable. After that, half of the work is already done!

Exquisite flower

It remains only to put the sheet in a small container with water. Make sure that the lower end (cut) is always in the water and never dries out - this will lead to the death of the plant. But at the same time, only the stalk itself should be in contact with water, and not the leaf - otherwise excess moisture will badly affect it, even rot may appear.

After a few days, small roots will appear at the bottom of the leaf. So it's time to plant the plant in the ground. Which soil and pot to choose is described above. It remains only to moisten the soil well, dig a small depression in it, set a leaf there so that all the roots are in the hole, and carefully cover it with earth on top, slightly tamping it for density. That's all! Now the plant will probably actively grow and develop.

Violet Macho

Violet Macho
As you can see in the photo, the Macho violet from Lebetskaya is a large-flowered variety of standard sizes, endowing the grower with an excellent cap of large semi-double flowers.

Corollas of LE Macho violets have a pronounced star shape and are painted in a deep burgundy-purple color. The wavy edge of the petals is set off by a contrasting white border. The leaves are simple, ovoid, with a medium green hue.

Classification of varieties of indoor violets

There are many varieties of violets, differing in size, flower shape, number and color of petals. Moreover, the same variety can belong to several groups. Now we will try to understand the classification of indoor violets.

By outlet size

Mini violet

Micromini... They have a rosette diameter of up to 8 cm. Against their background, ordinary Saintpaulias with a diameter of 20-40 cm look like giants. They are grown only in compact pots with wick irrigation. Otherwise, the risk of drying out is too high - left without moisture, they dry out and die rather quickly.

Mini... The diameter of the rosette of such violets does not exceed 12-15 cm. Just like micromini, they are grown, most often, on wick irrigation.They tolerate reproduction well and therefore take root faster than the larger varieties. During flowering, they form many attractive, bright and original inflorescences.

Halfmini... They have a rosette diameter of up to 20 cm. Most of these varieties were bred with the participation of the Russian botanist Igor Milekhin. It is important to know that too much light is harmful to half-mini violets! In a short time, all foliage can turn yellow, and the rosette becomes flat in shape.

Standard - rosette 20-40 cm in diameter.

By flower size

By flower size, violets are divided into the following groups:

  • small-flowered - up to 2 cm;
  • mid-flowered - from 2 to 4 cm;
  • large-flowered - from 4 to 6 cm;
  • especially large-flowered - more than 6 cm.

Types by flower shape

Types of violets by shape

Depending on the size and location of the petals, there are 5 types of indoor violets:

  • Pansies;
  • Star;
  • Bell;
  • Bowl;
  • Wasp.

Soil and pot for violets

The potting soil can be purchased at the flower shop, but the potting mix has some peculiarities. It is light because it is good for the root system of the violet. However, due to its structure, the liquid practically does not permeate the soil, but simply flows through it.

It is best to make your own violet mixture. Its composition is quite simple: 3 parts of ordinary earth and 1 part of sand. It is advisable to keep the mixture in the oven for a while in order to ignite it and kill harmful microorganisms in it.

Violets mulched with last year's leaves

Mulched with last year's leaves

Violet requires good drainageso the pot should be about a third full of drainage material. It can be expanded clay or fine gravel. The drainage holes must be large enough: this is due to some way of watering violets.

Drainage in vivo

Drainage in vivo

The choice of the diameter of the pot is very simple: it should be two to three times smaller than the diameter of the flower rosette. The pot can be in two parts.: internal, transparent, to control the root system and external, decorative.

As the root system of the violet grows, it may require transplanting several times in its life, so be prepared for the fact that each plant will need 2-3 pots.

Korshunova variety. Corollas are semi-double, bell-shaped in shape. The petals are wavy, with a graceful mesh pattern, visible at the stage of complete dissolution.

The origin and features of the flower

The flower was first discovered in 1892 in East Africa by Governor and Baron Adelbert Walter von Saint-Paul during a day walk. Noticing an unusual purple flower, he collected the seeds and sent them for research to his father in Germany, who forwarded a parcel to Hanover to the director of the botanical garden, who examined the plant and named it part of the Gesnerian family.

In 1893, the plant was already adorned at flower exhibitions and was officially recognized. Since then, the beautiful, tropical flower has spread and has been cultivated as indoor pets in many countries.

Saintpaulia was named after its discoverers, son and father Saint-Paul, and it was also called the Usambar violet. Very often the plant is confused with the wild-growing violet of the Violet family, but these are completely different flowers.

External description and photo

Saintpaulia is a perennial tropical herb with beautiful flowers. The root system is poorly developed and has a fibrous type, the stems can be basal or with hanging rosettes. Depending on the variety, the diameter of the rosette varies from 6 to 55 cm.Externally, the flower can be described as follows:

  • The leaves are round, fleshy, juicy, veins are clearly visible along the length of the leaf, the edge of the leaf is sharp or rounded. The surface is covered with fine, needle-like fibers. The shade of the leaves is mainly dark green, but there are specimens with a light core (pink, cream, salad), some species have a red tint. The seamy side is light, silvery green. The coating can be smooth, matte or corrugated with raised bumps.
  • Stems are brown or dark red, juicy, straight. Bud stems branch up to 15 small, flowered processes.
  • The flowers are simple, with five petals and two stamens, collected in a brush. Depending on the variety, the buds are simple and double.
  • The seed box is round with the presence of small seeds; under the influence of moisture it gradually collapses. All about indoor violets can be told by botanists engaged in plant breeding and breeding new varieties every year.

Violets - home care

Variegated

There are 3 types of variegation. The most beautiful view is with bordering variegation. In such plants, light areas are evenly distributed along the contour of the foliage.

The color of variegation can be white, cream, white-pink, brown, grayish-pink, less often - yellow, dark pink. The intensity of the variegated color depends on the conditions of the plant and the air temperature. In a cool and well-lit room, the flower becomes brighter. With a lack of light, the leaves become greener, the variegation in some cases disappears entirely (during flowering). By inheritance, the color is passed on poorly enough.

With crown variegation, the center of the rosettes is colored golden, pink and white. This species is the most stable, it is inherited.

Rows of green foliage alternate with colored foliage. During the flowering period, the center of the rosettes turns green in most varieties.

Mosaic variegation is a more stable species. The foliage of such violets is partially or completely covered with an incorrect intricate pattern, similar to the pattern on marble or a mosaic of cream, pink, strokes and spots. This type of violets is quite rare.

Another species is known, this is spontaneous variegation. These plants do not transmit variegation from parent varieties.

Description of flowers similar to violets

There are few plant varieties similar in appearance to violets. Some of them can be listed:

  1. Gloxinia. The analogy is noticeable in the shape of the inflorescences, their color and location on the foliage. The difference is in the structure of the leaf, the cut of the bud and the structure of the pistil. Great closeness to terry species.
  2. Primrose. Outdoor plants are vibrant and lush. They are similar in the arrangement of the petals, but their shape is somewhat different. The primrose flower is flat and wide open, as if smoothed.
  3. Ahimenes. Blue flowers surprise with tenderness. The foliage is different, it is small and uneven at the edges.
  4. Petunia. The variety of colors and the shape of small inflorescences bring the appearance closer to violets.
  5. Deikun. Blue bells are somewhat elongated, like violets, similar in tenderness and structure of the inflorescence.

All plants that look like violets are similar in one way or another: leaves, inflorescences, pattern, color. But in general, the violet is original and unique.

Created by Sorano, the Chanson violet stands out for its large rosette of dark foliage with visible gloss. Violet Green

The violet Green, presented to flower growers T. Dadoyan, as in the photo, makes you wonder at the diversity of the world of Saintpaulias. At the bud stage, the flowers of this variety are completely green, but as they dissolve, the corollas become larger, turn white, and a wide green frill remains only along the edge of the petals. Flowers are large, semi- and densely double. The leaves are also wavy, with a rich green tone.

A little about watering

Water the violets as the soil dries. Accordingly, in the summer you will have to do this more often, and less often in the winter. In addition, soil dries out faster in small pots than in large ones.

Watering should be done only with settled water - not cold from the tap. It is advisable to pour water into a suitable container - a glass, jar or any other with a wide neck (to facilitate the evaporation of chlorine) and leave it for a day. During this time, it will warm up to room temperature and get rid of dangerous chlorine. Too hot or cold water may well lead to the appearance of diseases, damage to the roots.

When watering, try to pour water directly onto the ground. If it gets on the leaves on a hot sunny day, burns are possible - white spots will appear on their surface.

Violets Golden autumn

Sorano varieties are always a joy for the grower. The large star-shaped flowers of the violet Golden autumn, in addition to a white sparkling shade, have gracefully folded wavy petals, which gives the flower a very unusual look. The color towards the center of the corolla becomes almost yellow, which is emphasized by the stamens of the same color. The socket is sturdy, standard. The foliage is bright, green, also with a wavy edge.
