Abutilon: caring for indoor maple at home

Abutilon is an unpretentious houseplant that will perfectly fit into a home or office interior and will decorate winter gardens. It does not require special conditions and careful care, therefore it is quite popular among flora lovers. You will learn about what types of indoor abutilon are, and how to grow it correctly, from this article.

Features of caring for abutilon at home

For growing abutilone at home, preference should be given to hybrid varieties. They are distinguished by the compactness of the crown and the large size of the flowers. In order for bright bells to bloom on the home maple from spring to late autumn, it is necessary to observe the lighting conditions, temperature conditions, watering and top dressing on time.

Air temperature

Despite the fact that the Abutilon maple is a southern plant, the constant presence in a warm apartment is not good for it. The ideal temperature for a tropical "guest" in the warm season is +20 ° C - +26 ° C, and in winter it should be at +12 ° C - +15 ° C.

If the air cools down to +5 ° C - +10 ° C, abutilone can begin to shed leaves. Drafts are no less dangerous for him. Too warm air can also adversely affect the condition of indoor maple. At a temperature of +30 ° C, bud formation stops. To help the green pet, they resort to spraying the aboveground part with warm, soft, settled water.

On summer days, abutilon reacts perfectly to being on a sunny veranda or balcony, and sometimes plants are successfully transferred to the garden or even transplanted into open ground.

Lighting

Abutilones are photophilous and need bright diffused light. Its deficiency leads to the fact that the number of buds on the bush decreases. In this case, varieties that have a variegated (variegated) or light color of the leaves are slightly shaded. This helps to maintain beautiful, crisp patterns on them.

Abutilons on the windowsill in the apartment

Preferred places for growing abutilon indoor maple, the care that takes place in the house is the eastern, western, southeastern and southwestern window sills. The bushes on the south side must be protected from the sun at noon, otherwise their leaves will dry out. Plants placed on the windowsills of northern windows need additional lighting.

Watering

Abutilons love abundant watering. It is impossible to allow the soil to dry out in the pot. The need for moisture increases in hot weather or in a cold period, when heaters are running in the apartment or the heating system is turned on. Timely watering is especially important during the growing season. Lack of moisture in this case inevitably leads to wilting, loss of buds, and sometimes to the death of the root system.

If the abutilone lacks moisture, it begins to actively shed the buds. Overflow may be indicated by a wilted species of the plant.

You need to water your home maple at a time when the soil after the previous watering dries up slightly. For this you should use settled or melted warm water. During cold wintering, the amount and abundance of watering is significantly reduced in order to prevent the appearance of rot.

Soil selection

Soil for homemade maple should be good for air and moisture. It can be a universal soil for indoor plants with the addition of sand, vermiculite or perlite.The substrate for abutilone should not only be loose and light, but also have a neutral or slightly acidic pH-reaction (within 6-7), as well as be moisture and air permeable.

If you make the soil yourself, you will need to mix: 2 parts of sod land, 2 parts of coniferous or deciduous humus, 0.5 parts of river sand, 1 part of coconut substrate. As drainage at the bottom of the pot (about 2 centimeters), it is recommended to use expanded clay or just small pebbles, as well as sphagnum moss (it is laid on top of expanded clay before filling the soil mixture, to create additional moisture exchange).

Top dressing

Abutilon grows very quickly and is generally quite "gluttonous" for these reasons, it needs constant feeding. They are brought in from the onset of spring to autumn every two weeks. The abundance and quality of flowering depends on the regularity of dressings. It is recommended to alternate the application of mineral fertilizers with the addition of organic matter to the soil.

The concentration of fertilizers for abutilone may be less than in the instructions for the selected composition, but at the same time, you need to feed the flower a little more often. At the time of mass flowering, it is better to fertilize abutilon with products with a high content of phosphorus and potassium, which have a positive effect on the formation of buds. When, after pruning, abutilone should quickly overgrow with new foliage, it is more correct to use preparations with nitrogen.

A lack of mineral fertilizers often leads to the fact that the leaves of abutilon begin to turn yellow, in which case a drug called "Emerald" will help.

Tips for growing abutilone

Caring for abutilon at home does not require a lot of attention or any special skills. You just need to follow some simple recommendations.

Landing the cable car

Abutilone from seeds is grown in a mixture of peat, light earth and sand (in a 2: 2: 1 ratio, respectively).

  • It is recommended to sift the soil before sowing so that it becomes friable and better retains moisture. It also needs to be disinfected with potassium permanganate from fungi and bacteria;
  • Seed material is soaked in warm water for 12 hours;
  • The seeds are planted in a pot at a shallow depth - about 5 mm, covered with foil to create a "greenhouse" and placed in a warm, sunny place. Seedlings begin to appear in about 20 days;
  • When the first leaves appear, you need to plant the seedlings in small cups with a diameter of about 7 cm.Now you just need to properly care for the abutilon, creating the desired level of humidity, lighting and temperature (more on this below), and after six months the plant will begin to bloom.

Of course, you can buy an adult blooming specimen in a flower shop, but the price of seeds is much cheaper, and growing a "green friend" yourself is much more pleasant and interesting. The cost of packing seeds is on average 20 rubles, and a young plant will cost about 500 rubles.

Required temperature and lighting for indoor maple

Homemade maple abutilon is a flower that needs light too much. A room with an abundance of daylight is well suited for him, but the plant does not like very bright lighting. In the summertime, it must be taken out into the fresh air, veranda or balcony, placing it in a shaded corner. But the "green pet" may not bloom in insufficient light.

In summer, in a room containing abutilone, the optimal temperature level should be + 20-25 degrees, not lower. In winter, a decrease in the temperature regime to + 10-15 degrees is permissible, but it must be borne in mind that if the shrub is in a room with a temperature of +10 degrees for a long time, it will begin to dry out.

Watering the cable car

When the plant begins to grow actively (during the warm period), it must be watered regularly and abundantly. This process cannot be reduced when flowering a homemade maple.Excess water, which is collected in the pan two hours after watering, is poured out. Somewhere from November, it is necessary to water the shrub less and this rule must be adhered to until February.

If the soil is prone to drying out or waterlogging, maple can lose flowers and dense crown.

Air humidity

The "green inhabitant" is very fond of moisture, so if he is in a stuffy room, he should be sprayed with water as often as possible. When a bush is flowering, spraying is done very carefully - water should not get on the flowers.

Fertilizing Home Maple

Abutilon needs to be fed with organic and mineral fertilizers regularly once a week. With the active growth of the shrub, when it is gaining green mass, which occurs in springtime, it is advisable to introduce nitrogen. Homemade maple is fertilized with potassium and phosphorus before flowering, but in winter the feeding process is not necessary at all.

Pruning

Abutilon must be pruned in a timely manner so that the bush has the correct size and the right height, because it has the ability to grow quickly.

Until the "green friend" begins to actively grow, its shoots are cut to 1/3 (or 2/3) of the length. This shortening stimulates lush flowering, forms a beautiful crown. On young shrubs, pinch the tops, and then the plant is transferred to a warm room, well fed and watered.

Transplanting home maple

This procedure is done annually. The container does not have to be much larger than the previous one. The flowering of abutilon begins when the soil is completely enveloped in its roots. It is best to buy soil for planting in flower shops, because it has already been disinfected from parasites and is rich in useful properties.

Propagation by cuttings

Shrub propagation occurs by cuttings or seeds. The most favorable time for propagation of maple by cuttings is August. Although this can be done at all seasons.

  1. We take a stalk up to 12 cm in length with a flexible stem. Remove the lower leaves and buds from it. To plant cuttings, we use a mixture of sand and peat, or a ready-made substrate from a store.
  2. We plant the cuttings in small cups, cover with jars. By this, we create, as it were, greenhouse conditions, and after a month the seedlings have a root system. During this period, they must be watered, sprayed, ventilated.
  3. Then we transplant the sprouted cuttings into pots with a diameter of 7 cm, no more.

Reviews of gardeners and florists about abutilone are extremely positive due to its unpretentiousness. Every flora lover can grow such a handsome man. It is enough to show attention and care to it, and the indoor maple will give you bright flowers and lush branches of leaves.

How to care for Abutilone in winter

Winter maintenance of the "southern guest" assumes two options: warm and cold wintering.

Warm wintering

When keeping abutilone in winter in a house on a windowsill at temperatures from +18 ° C to +22 ° C, it is necessary to provide it with additional lighting. For this, several 20 W lamps are suitable.

The root system of indoor maple can be subject to hypothermia and rot. To protect the roots, an insulating material such as a cork base or a piece of styrofoam can be placed under the flowerpot.

Watering abutilon should be moderate and done after the soil is half the pot dry. Top dressing is done on a leaf and only when signs of nutrient deficiency appear.

Cold wintering

At home, a balcony or loggia can become a place for cold wintering of abutilon, but with one important condition: the air temperature should not fall below +8 ° C. Watering should be moderate, closer to lean. It is carried out after the maximum drying of the soil. Top dressing in winter, until mid-February is not applied.It is better to choose a soil for cold wintering that is breathable, loose and light.

In winter, when heating devices affect the air quality in the room, a screen made of non-woven material or film that encloses the space under the windowsill from the living space will become a good protection from heat.

Application, benefit, harm

Abutilon is used for decoration (for example, ampere types look good against the background of a stretch ceiling). It also has technical applications after processing. It produces:

  • rope sacking;
  • ropes;
  • high quality ropes and high quality weaving.

That is why it has another name - rope. It has no harmful properties, but for some people it becomes an allergen. There is a sign that the rope brings trouble to the home, but this is just superstition.

Fertilizers for abutilon

Indoor maple is very fond of feeding and responds to them gratefully. At the same time, almost any composition suits him. It makes sense to apply fertilizers for abutilon from the onset of spring to autumn, and experienced flower growers recommend planting them in a slightly lower concentration than is suggested in the instructions for the selected composition. Top dressing ends in October.

When it is time for active flowering, the bush is fertilized with products saturated with potassium and fluoride. They promote bud formation. After pruning the branches and during the period of active growth of the green mass, it is useful to introduce nitrogen-containing preparations. And when it becomes discolored, signaling a deficiency of trace elements, the plant is fed with a complex organomineral fertilizer, for example, "Izumrud".

In the summer, you can shorten the fertilization intervals to 1 time in 2 weeks. From about November until spring, it is enough to feed the substrate once a month or stop feeding altogether for the plant to rest.

Abutilon: photo and description of the plant

This plant is not only beautiful, but also useful.... Other name - Cable car, since the stem of the flower contains up to 25% of strong fibers, which are used for weaving ropes, twines, bags. They know a lot about this in China, where the flower is grown as an agricultural crop.

cable car

But the main purpose is decorative... Abutilon belongs to the genus of evergreens: shrubs, dwarf shrubs, grasses. Usually, a home flower grows up to 1–1.5 m, in natural conditions - up to 4 m. But breeders have also bred compact varieties, up to 40 cm high.

Flower petals are combined in various forms:

  • bell;
  • wide open bell;
  • funnel;
  • wheel-shaped.

Plant owners post a photo of blooming Abutilon with yellow, white, red, pink, purple petals on the Internet. Moreover, the flower often combines two shades that create a pattern on the petals... For example, a yellow canvas with red veins forming longitudinal arrows or a net.

flower

The bud originates at the base of the leaves, which amaze with their variety. They can reach 10 cm in length, so the plant carries name Abutilon, which means "giving a shadow"... The shape of the leaf is ovoid, with a carved or crenate edge, which is why the plant is often called "Indoor maple"... The plate palette includes all shades of green, gray and silver.

Diseases of abutilones

If the care of the green "pet" is carried out in a timely manner and correctly, nothing threatens him. Indoor maple can be exposed to diseases and pests if not properly cared for. Symptoms and reasons for their appearance can be different, as well as ways to help the flower.

Flowering problems

The first buds bloom on it 3-5 months after sowing the seeds. But sometimes all the permissible periods pass, and the home maple does not bloom. This means that he does not have enough strength to tie and dissolve the buds.

There are two main reasons why abutilon does not bloom:

  1. lack of lighting (the plant needs at least 2 hours of bright sunlight per day);
  2. an excessively large volume of a flower pot: the bush spends too much energy to fill it with the root system.

Sometimes abutilone drops buds. Possible prerequisites for this phenomenon:

  • insufficient watering, especially in the spring and summer;
  • deficiency of nutrients, the need for additional feeding;
  • exposure to drafts, indoor maple does not tolerate them.

Leaf problems

With improper care with indoor maple leaves, problems of a different nature and varying degrees of complexity can also arise. Each of them needs to be solved individually:

  • Abutilon sheds leaves, they turn yellow and fall off. In some varieties, this indicates the onset of a dormant period in the winter. Also, the reason may lie in damage to the root system, lack of nutrition.
  • Abutilon leaves curl. The flower may be exposed to direct sunlight, the humidity may be too low, and the temperature may be too high. To help him, it is worth trying to change the conditions of his detention.
  • The lower leaves turn yellow. The reasons may be associated with a lack of light or feeding. The flowerpot should be rearranged to a more illuminated place, complex fertilizer should be applied, and the bush should also be examined for the presence of pests, for example, a spider mite.
  • The leaves are lighter than usual. This is due to insufficient irrigation frequency, lack of trace elements, lack of sunlight and fresh air. To help the flower, it is worth watering it more often, but with less water, moving the pot to a lighter, more ventilated room and feeding it with complex fertilizer.
  • Rust spots on the green mass. This is the result of infection by rust fungi. To combat the disease, the affected leaves and shoots are removed. The bush is sprayed with the Topaz systemic fungicide, which is effective not only against rust, but also powdery mildew, spores and mycelium of pathogenic fungi. It can also be used for prophylaxis: spray the flower at the beginning of the growing season.

Structure

Indoor maple is characterized by an elevated structure, green shoots, sometimes woody at the base. The bush is fast growing. In their natural habitat, shrubs can reach 3 m in height, samples grown at home, depending on the variety, can reach a little more than a meter in height, and, as a rule, lower. Very decorative leaves, shaped like maple leaves. Depending on the variety, the number of shares varies - from three to seven. Color from bright green to variegated with white or yellow spots. Numerous bell-shaped flowers appear in spring and bloom until late autumn. The flowers planted on long petioles, depending on the variety, please - with red, orange, white, pink, yellow flowers. The diameter of the flower can reach 8 cm. The seeds are dark and kidney-shaped.

With proper pruning, you can form abutilone in the form of a small tree.

Pests of abutilones

Indoor maples are resistant to diseases. But it can be attacked by insects and other pests. The bushes are most vulnerable in the spring, when parasites are actively multiplying, and the immunity of green pets is weakened after wintering and cannot fully resist them.

The main pests of abutilone:

  • Shields. When they appear, abutilone becomes covered with sticky secretions, and then small brown plaques. To remove pests, you can use a cotton pad and treat the bush with an insecticide solution, such as actara or soapy water.
  • Spider mites. Signs of their presence in a pot with a plant are the presence of gray or black specks on the inner surface of the leaves, as well as a thin cobweb. You can cope with this pest with the help of agrovertin or phytoverm.Processing must be carried out several times, with a week break.
  • Aphid. It causes considerable harm to rope-divers and infects them with viral diseases. When aphids appear, you can use an agrovertin solution or use folk remedies. For example, once a week, it is allowed to process a bush with garlic infusion with laundry soap.

Description

The genus includes: perennial evergreen and deciduous varieties; shrubs, trees. They have woody or herbaceous shoots. They reach a height of 4 m in their natural environment.

  1. On a long stem, there are harsh villi or soft felt. Usually shoots are highly branched.
  2. The leaves are split into several lobes. They are similar to maple: dark greenish or gray tones with a blue tint with pointed ends. Therefore, abutilion has a popular name - indoor maple.
  3. In some representatives, the greens have a striped or speckled appearance. The length of the leaves does not exceed ten centimeters. Not all of them are maple-like, variegated varieties have heart-shaped greens.

When blooming, buds are formed in the form of bells. Their diameter reaches eleven centimeters. There are types of terry abutilone with large corolla petals. The flower has a different color (depending on the subspecies). Most often, the flowers are single, formed in the axils of greenery.

How to trim abutilone

Indoor maple at home can grow up to 1.5 meters in height. Without pruning, it loses its shape, inflorescences are located only at the ends of the shoots. To form a compact bush or standard tree, it is necessary to cut off the shoots in spring and autumn, leaving half or a third of their original length from them. Abutilon feels comfortable after pruning and pinching, completely restoring the volume of green mass in a few weeks.

To form a compact bush or standard tree, you cannot do without pruning. Shoots are cut and pinched in autumn and spring to half or a third of their original length.

In order for abutilon to bush well, dried and damaged branches should be regularly cut off from a faded bush, and the crown should be thinned. And in the spring, the correction of the shape of the crown must be repeated. Thanks to pruning, dormant buds awaken and lateral branches appear. After this procedure, the plant must be fed. When forming a trunk to give the plant stability, so that the bush does not lower the branches, it is recommended to put supports.

Reproduction: step by step instructions

Propagated by seeds, step by step instructions:

  • The soil is sieved for looseness and better moisture retention. Low acidity soil is disinfected with a manganese solution.
  • The seed is soaked in lukewarm water for 12 hours.
  • The seeds are planted in pots to a depth of 5 mm. The pot is covered with polyethylene, placed in a warm place under the sun. From germinated seeds, seedlings appear in about three weeks.
  • During the formation of greenery, the sprouts are transplanted into separate containers with a diameter of 7 cm.

Vegetative propagation is best used in August:

  • A 12 cm root with a flexible stem is taken. The bottom buds and greens are removed.
  • The shoots are planted in small containers, covered with banks (favorable greenhouse conditions are created). After about a month, the shoots put down creeping roots. We must not forget to water, irrigate, air.
  • The planting of mature seedlings is carried out in pots with a diameter of no more than 7 cm.

Is it suitable for the formation of bonsai

Abutilon is rarely used to form bonsai as it stuns growth and is often sick. The formation of a tree can be carried out by observing the following rules:

  • prune when 5 pairs of leaves appear on the plant, shortening by 2–4 leaves;
  • cuttings should be left, removing large leaf plates, which will fade over time and will be replaced by smaller leaves;
  • in the middle of summer, the growth buds should be plucked, which will cause a slowdown in growth and the formation of shorter shoots, appropriate for bonsai;
  • pruning is carried out in summer and early autumn. During this time, the wounds on the plant heal faster, and the recovery period takes a shorter period of time.

Abutilon is an unpretentious houseplant that gives solar energy to those around it. With proper care and attention, a flower can become a worthy decoration of a living room.

Breeding methods for home maple

There are several ways to reproduce abutilone.

Propagation by cuttings

The most common breeding method is cuttings. The procedure can be performed all year round. In the spring, semi-lignified shoots are taken for cutting, and in the summer, the apical ones.

For rooting, they are placed in a mixture of sand and peat, water or in an ordinary substrate. Create a mini-greenhouse conditions for the plant. Cover the cuttings with a plastic wrap cap. Open periodically for ventilation.

Rooting the cutting

Rooting the cutting

Benefits of the vegetative method:

  • The grown plant retains its maternal properties: variegated foliage, color of flowers.
  • The growing period is shortened in contrast to the seed method. The first flowers appear much earlier.

Seed breeding method

This method is more often used by breeders when developing new varieties. Although there are no particular difficulties in this method.

At home, it is possible to grow a variety of varieties from purchased seeds and even create a new variety on your own by pollination of existing plants. To obtain seeds, the flowers are pollinated - with a soft brush they transfer pollen from the stamens to the stigma.

After successful pollination, a multifaceted box with seeds is formed in the place of the flower.

Seed capsule

After about a month, it will open

Variegated varieties do not retain their color when propagated by seeds. At the initial stage, seeds are sown without burying them. Monitor soil moisture. You can immediately plant the seeds in peat tablets.

Sowing seeds

Sowing seeds in a closed container

Experienced growers have noticed that the best time for seed germination is spring. The best way to germinate is to create a greenhouse effect. For this, containers are used that are closed with glass, a lid or wrapped in cellophane film.

Good to know. The seeds are pre-soaked in water at a temperature of 15-18 ° C, and they germinate better at a temperature of 25 ° C. It is convenient to use cotton pads or napkins.

The soaking process is optional. The first shoots appear within 3 to 21 days.

First shoots

First shoots

About a month after the sprouts appear, the seedlings are seated in separate cups. 1-2 tablespoons of coarse river sand or other drainage material are poured into the bottom.

Transfer to cups

Transfer to cups

The growing plant is transplanted into a larger pot, following the rules for care, transplantation, pruning and bush formation described above.

Reproduction method by grafting

It is used when forming an abutilon tree with various varieties on one trunk.

Temperature regime

Despite its thermophilicity, the plant is uncomfortable at temperatures above 26 degrees. It is recommended to ventilate the area regularly during the hot summer months.

Also, the abutilon flower should be protected from possible drafts and sudden changes in temperature. It exists well at 13 degrees, but at lower rates it begins to shed leaves.

What to do if the leaves turn yellow

Why do the leaves of abutilone turn yellow? There are several factors that lead to this:

  • Abutilone lacks light or nutrients;
  • irregular watering;
  • the plant is affected by pests.

Yellowing of leaves due to lack of nitrogen

With a lack of trace elements, the leaves of abutilon begin to fall off. Florists note a slowdown in plant growth. Ferrovit complex mineral fertilizers can be used as top dressing. Yellow leaves can appear dormant when the flower stops developing for natural reasons.

Varieties

A wide variety of varieties can be purchased on sale, so it is worth taking a look around and choosing the most suitable variety.

Popular Bella series includes colorful forms with large flowers, the diameter of which reaches 7 cm.

  • "Red" with burgundy flowers,
  • "Deep Coral" with coral flowers,
  • Apricot Shades with apricot flowers,
  • Salomon Shades with salmon-colored flowers.

It should be noted that these are dwarf forms, the height is about 45 cm.

Yellow color will delight varieties: "Canary Bird", "Golden Fleece", and spotted leaves "Cannington Carol", "Cannington Sally". Ashford Red blooms red. A particularly beautiful variety is "Savitzii" with decorative white-framed leaves.

Currently popular hybrid abutilone Juliet color mix, a mixture of varieties of different colors and Bellevue variety - a mixture of colors, shrub 90 cm high, blooms summer-autumn. Maple green leaves. The flowers are large, of different colors.

Varieties with variegated leaves are the result of infection with abutilone viruses... The presence of the virus in the cells does not significantly affect the growth of the plant, it may slow down the growth a little. Indoor maple with spotted leaves looks original.

Important points

When growing Abutilon, it should be noted that the plant:

  • does not tolerate direct sunlight;
  • afraid of drafts;
  • perfect for organizing flower beds;
  • in the summer, it will feel better outdoors;
  • suitable for greenhouses and large spaces.

Abutilon is a fast growing large plant that requires free placement, therefore it is recommended to grow it in spacious rooms. This plentiful and long-flowering tree with delicate foliage will serve as a decoration for any interior.

Abutilon: home care

Successful agrotechnics of abutilon at home is possible with a full recreation of the growing conditions. Homemade maple differs from other tropical indoor flowers in its affordable agricultural technology. Proper care of the plant allows you to easily achieve year-round flowering. The large flowers of the domestic maple tree are distinguished by a wide variety of shapes and tones.

Recreation of a tropical microclimate consists of the correct choice of a place for a flowerpot to ensure optimal lighting conditions.

Also, agricultural technology includes compliance with the requirements of temperature and humidity. Periodically, abutilone needs to be transplanted and fed. Bright flowers on a harmonious bush will serve as a wonderful decoration for any green collection.

Signs and superstitions

Esotericists believe that the plant is able to attract solar energy and give it to others. A flower located in a living space can relieve despondency, depression and drowsiness. Abutilon restores psychological balance and improves mood.

It is useful to place a flower in office premises, since it makes people kinder and more attentive to each other, helps to establish communication and arouse sympathy among others.

Indoor maple promotes communication between people. During the flowering period, everyone can experience its soothing properties. It helps to awaken creativity and imagination, as well as to bring ideas to life.

Abutilon (cable car)

Abutilone absorbs the negative energy of Sha and fills the home with solar energy. The plant should be placed on cabinets and high shelves, since the ampelous shape of the cable car with long, hanging down stems smooths out sharp corners that accumulate negative energy.

A flower should not be held by a lonely person. If there are difficulties in personal life, an ampel plant can make it difficult to find a soul mate.

There are signs associated with this phenomenon. In some countries, that in the middle of winter, abutilone blooms to a big surprise or some important event, other interpreters believe that the flowering of the cable car portends trouble.

Germinating abutilon seeds on a paper pad

A layer of paper napkins is placed in a dry container, on which prepared seeds are laid out, covered with a transparent lid, creating greenhouse conditions. At temperatures up to +25 C, constant spraying and airing, the roots will appear on the third day. Sprouted abutilone from seeds is carefully transferred into special peat tablets. For the next two weeks, maintain the greenhouse regime and constant lighting. As soon as the roots appear from the peat barrel, the cable car is transplanted into separate flower pots.

Requirements

Home-grown Abutilon Hybrid should be placed in a bright room (south window) to ensure lush bloom. Since abutilone can be grown on the balcony and terrace, it is worth using this option, especially since the plant likes fresh air during its lush growth. In the open air, it is better to provide a secluded place, sheltered from the scorching sun. Abutilon also grows in partial shade, however, in such a place, it will not spoil us with too lush flowering.

Indoor temperature during the growth period is 16-22 ° C, in winter it is definitely below 10-15 ° C.

The soil is fertile, humic, permeable and rich in nutrients. A versatile potting medium can be used.

Abutilon care includes watering, fertilizing, replanting, pinching and wintering.

Watering is a very important home care procedure for Abutilon, especially during growth and when grown in a sunny location. A plant in such conditions needs a lot of moisture. The frequency of watering depends on many factors, but it may be necessary to water the plant daily, when grown outdoors, during dry periods, even twice during the day. When grown indoors, Abutilone should be provided with good drainage because it does not like the presence of water. During the winter, the soil should not be constantly wet, on the contrary, between the first and second watering, the soil should dry out slightly.

During the growing season, abutilon is fertilized every 7-14 days with a multicomponent liquid fertilizer in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations. Do not fertilize in winter.

The leaves are cleaned by washing off the dust with warm, soft water, being careful not to spray the flowers.

It should be remembered about pinching for a beautiful plant shape. This procedure is carried out several times during the season.

In early spring, abutilon is transplanted. If necessary, the roots are slightly trimmed. When transplanting, you need to remember about drainage!

Pruning

With proper care, intensive growth begins. To make the bush look aesthetically pleasing, at the end of winter it is cut in half.

During growth, the crown must be thinned regularly, and weak stems must be removed. Over time, the bush will need support and a garter.

Watering

Abutilon loves moist soil. Therefore, the process of caring for it includes abundant and frequent watering. For this, settled boiled water is used.

During watering, you should keep the "golden mean". With insufficient moisture, the plant sheds not only leaves, but also flowers that have not yet blossomed.

Too much water accumulates in the pan, which contributes to rotting of the root system and the formation of rot on it.During the winter months, Abutilone needs to be watered much less frequently.

In addition to moderate watering, the plant needs to provide moist air around it. It is recommended to periodically spray the leaves of abutilone from a spray bottle, or place containers with water near the flower pot. Twice a month, you need to bathe it in the shower, and also remove the accumulated dust on the leaves with a damp cloth.

Disease and pest control

Insects are dangerous for abutilon: whitefly, spider mite, mealybug, scale insect. The parasites feed on sap and can kill the plant.

To identify harmful insects, you need to regularly inspect the leaves and stems for external damage. To eliminate ticks and whiteflies, fungicides are used that can destroy pests.

The appearance of a flower affected by a whitefly

When affected by powdery mildew, a white bloom appears on the upper side of the leaves. You can cope with pests by using a foundation. Massive whitefly infection leads to yellowing and leaf fall. To save abutilon, the flower should be treated with a pyrethrum suspension or decis solution.

A mealybug lesion manifests itself in the form of a characteristic plaque, which impedes the access of air and light. In this case, the leaves of the flower begin to curl. The disease has a negative effect on the root system of the flower. You can get rid of the mealybug by treating it with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol.

Important! The affected areas need to be treated with karbofos.

Types of abutilon: flowering variety of indoor maple

There are about 150 types of indoor maple. But the following are especially popular in apartments and houses of florists:

Hybrid (Abutilum Hibridum)

The most common species is an evergreen shrub. Abutilone hybrid leaves are delicate with small fluffy hairs. This species includes several varieties that differ in color.

Megopotamian (Abutilum Megopotamicum)

This type of indoor maple has smaller leaves, and its shoots hang down to the bottom, therefore, experienced flower growers often use it as an ampelous plant, planting it in a flowerpot. It has very good decorative characteristics. The inflorescences look like small lanterns, which, when strewn with a plant, create an incredibly beautiful look. It can grow like a tree or shrub if the trunk is well supported.

Transplanting requirements and soil composition

The best time for transplanting work is spring. A ready-made substrate for flowering plants or one prepared by yourself is suitable. Recommended composition:

  • sod land - 3 parts;
  • leaf land - 2 parts;
  • sand - 0.5 parts;
  • humus - 1 part.

The substrate should be neutral or slightly acidic and contain enough humus. A drainage layer is required at the bottom of the pot.

Important requirements for transplanting are the need to shorten the root system, trim the aboveground system, and add fresh fertile soil. Otherwise, the plant will reach a fairly large size, not suitable for placement on a windowsill.

Helpful advice. When transplanting a room maple, a pot is selected not much larger than the previous one. In a cramped pot, it will bloom more abundantly.
