Strawberries in pvc pipes horizontally step by step instructions

Features of growing strawberries in PVC pipes

The method of growing strawberries using PVC pipes has its advantages and disadvantages. The advantages of this method are as follows:

  • Significant saving of space on the personal plot.
  • Design mobility. It is easy to move or rebuild if necessary.
  • Harvest cleanliness. The berries do not come into contact with the ground, therefore, they are less prone to decay, loss of presentation.
  • No weeding. Strawberry planting practically does not need it.
  • Convenient watering and feeding of plants.
  • Protection from diseases and pests. If the soil is properly prepared and processed, then there are no pest larvae, pathogenic bacteria in it.
  • Originality. The ridges will be the highlight of your site, give it a well-groomed look.

Planting strawberries in tubes saves planting space and beautifully decorates the site

This method also has some disadvantages:

  • Planting strawberries in pipes should be watered regularly (at least once every 3-5 days). The presence of an automatic irrigation system or filling the irrigation pipe with a hydrogel flooded with water, which will gradually release moisture to the plant roots, will greatly facilitate this task.
  • The soil in PVC pipes has practically no opportunities for natural enrichment, so the plants need systematic and frequent feeding.
  • Plants planted in this way do not tolerate frost well, therefore in the northern regions and in the middle lane there is a threat of freezing. In this case, the mobility of the structure can be used: vertically located pipes are moved to a horizontal position, they are covered. It must be borne in mind that in this case, plants that are on the lower side of the garden may be damaged.

Pros of vertical planting of strawberries

Of the advantages, the following points can be noted:

  • economical use of planting areas - with the correct placement of structures (in layers, tiers, vertically), the yield from 1 m2 of area can be equated to the amount of the crop grown on 1 hundred square meters of an ordinary garden bed;
  • mobility - if desired, such a bed can be easily and quickly moved to another place or storage room;
  • no need for soil cultivation: removing weeds, loosening, mulching;
  • always clean and healthy berries, since they practically do not come into contact with the ground;
  • the possibility of decorating the landscape space of the site - unusual beds with hanging fragrant berries can become a decoration of a garden, a hedge.
  • Geneva. An excellent American variety, tasty and very productive. With proper care, it can produce 3 kg of berries.
  • Alba. An Italian variety that appeared in Russia relatively recently. It has spindle-shaped bright red berries, tasty and juicy. An interesting feature of this particular variety is that the berries are the same size throughout the season, they do not shrink even at the last harvest.

The soil on which tomatoes or potatoes were grown should not be taken, otherwise the strawberries may become infected with some fungi or diseases. Add a small dose of mullein better. To create a good drainage system, coarse gravel, crushed stone or other similar material should be poured into the lower part of the pipes by 8-9 cm.A soil mixture is poured onto the drainage and tamped lightly. The soil must be poured into the pipe to the brim.

  • plugs on the outer pipe are installed on both sides,
  • holes for planting strawberries are drilled along the entire length, but only on one side, which will be located at the top,
  • at the bottom of the pipe, in the very center, a small hole is made to remove excess liquid, which, if necessary, is closed with a stopper,
  • the lower part of the pipe is filled with expanded clay, and fertile soil is poured on top.

The norms for feeding strawberries look like this:

  • Phosphorus 50 kg / ha. It should be entered before boarding;
  • Nitrogen 90 kg / ha. Half must be applied immediately before planting, the second part - during the growing season. You also need to take into account the weather factor, that is, if part of the fertilizers from nitrogen is washed out by precipitation, additional feeding will be needed;
  • Potassium 100 kg / ha. Half should be applied before planting, the second - during the flowering period;
  • Magnesium 100 kg / ha. It is applied before preparing the soil.

You should also carry out foliar feeding with microelements, since it helps to increase the yield from 5 to 15%. The mixture should be applied during flowering (0.025%) and fruiting (0.05) berries.

The following trace elements should be present in the mixture:

  • boric acid;
  • cobalt nitrate;
  • zinc sulfate and manganese.

Many summer residents have questions related to the subsequent planting of strawberries in created pipe structures. All the basic rules associated with this procedure are discussed below:

  1. Young seedlings are selected, a prerequisite is the presence of a developed root system with processes of at least 10 cm.
  2. The planting material undergoes preliminary preparation, which consists in keeping in a cool place with a sufficiently high level of humidity.
  3. It is important to adhere to the general schedule for planting strawberries, since missed dates can lead to the fact that the bushes do not have time to take root in a new place and adapt to the conditions in which they find themselves.
  4. When planting, it is necessary to monitor the position of the root collar, it must necessarily be located at the same level with the soil surface and not sink into it.
  5. The root processes are placed inside the existing holes, they must be in an upright position without any bends.
  1. Correctly organized vertical structures can be placed not only in summer cottages, but also on balconies and loggias of city apartments.
  2. With the help of boards on the structure, it is possible to organize numerous additional tiers. If the weather is warm outside, then containers with seedlings can be placed on them, which will subsequently be transplanted into pipes.
  3. Structures can be placed along the fences and additionally decorated, then they will be a great addition to the garden design.

The use of vertical structures made of pvc pipes to grow strawberries is a practical option, the task of which is the rational use of land space. To equip vertically flower beds or beds, you can use different structures of their pvc, which are sold at specialized points of sale.

And you can make such a structure vertically with your own hands. An innovation in the cultivation of berries or vegetables is the planting in pvc pipes, they are designed to install a sewer system.

The main materials for installing the system are:

  • Pvc pipes of large circle, divided into sections;
  • Drill with different drills;
  • Caps for pvc pipes;
  • Pvc pipe of small circumference, it will be used for the inflow of liquid to the root systems;
  • Wrapping material (common burlap is often used);
  • Fixing tight ropes;
  • Plant growing substrate;
  • Any material for installing a drainage system;
  • Bushes;
  • Elements for fastening pvc pipes.

Experienced gardeners recommend growing plants in the lower part of the structure, in wide pipes, that help scare away pests, insects, and larvae from strawberries. These can be flowers such as calendula or marigolds. Growing such flowers will scare off various insects, preventing them from parasitizing plants.

The vertical cultivation of strawberry bushes in pipes speaks of the neat placement of the plantings, sometimes in a position that is not too convenient for them. Gardeners recommend first filling the voids with soil, then simply making a depression in the ground with your finger and planting bushes.

In addition, with horizontal strawberries, in an ordinary garden plot, plant diseases are more common (since when strawberries are placed horizontally on a plot, fungal spores and viruses can spread even in deep soil layers, and it is necessary to grow vertically using a sterilized substrate).

There is an experience of gardeners who filled a vertical pipe with 1/3 of diluted plant waste mixed with effective microorganisms. In the greenhouse, the irrigation water and the warm air of the surrounding space contributed to the rapid overheating of the waste and the release of a large amount of organic nutrients. The process is accompanied by the release of heat. This means that you can save on heating the greenhouse.

Comparison of horizontal and vertical technologies:

  • Vertical technology is more compact and produces more berries per 1 m2 compared to horizontal technology, but more laborious, since planting and harvesting the upper bushes is more difficult than from bushes located at the same level.
  • The assembly of both units is the same.
  • In both installations, the cost of pumping water is equally high, unless gravity water supply is used.

The horizontal and vertical technology of growing strawberries in PVC pipes is considered intensive. The yield of the bushes is great throughout the year. With the maximum level of nutrition and lighting in the greenhouse, you can get up to 4 harvests of strawberries per year. After that, a complete replacement of the bushes is needed. If you get only 2 or 3 crops, then the bushes can be left for two years, and then completely changed.

The advantages of vertical planting of strawberries in plastic pipes will be useful for every gardener who plans to use this technology.

Vertical planting and further cultivation of strawberries has the following advantages:

  1. The ability to save the useful area of the site. Compared to the traditional method, it is possible to plant more bushes in a smaller area. Accordingly, it is possible to achieve a high yield despite the fact that the main area of the garden can be used for other purposes.
  2. Mobility. Structures can be easily transported to any other required place. Moreover, this can be done even if the plants have already been planted.
  3. Plants grow correctly and do not shade each other, which often happens when the strawberry grows incorrectly in the traditional planting method.
  4. Plants do not need soil loosening and weeding. They grow well without it, delighting with a significant harvest.
  5. The crop is always clean and easy to harvest due to the lack of contact with the ground. This allows and accelerates the process of picking berries.

In principle, vertical strawberry beds are one way to decorate a plot. You can additionally take care of the decoration of the PVC pipes so that they look interesting.

  1. Mobility. PVC pipes with strawberries can be placed on the site where it is more convenient, as well as in the greenhouse or on the balcony. In addition, it is permissible to transport garden crops in pipes not only in spring during planting, but also at any other time, if necessary.
  2. Minimum time spent on plant care, including primary soil preparation. The latter does not require further loosening or weed control, which cannot but please gardeners and gardeners.
  3. Ensuring the growth of garden culture without the intervention of the gardener. Planted strawberries or strawberries in a pipe grows by itself, it only needs timely watering and picking berries.
  4. Increase in the amount of harvest. This is due to the fact that a significant area is involved for planting strawberry bushes directly in the pipe, and not in the garden.
  5. Convenience of picking berries. This is explained by the fact that the berries are always clean, since there is no contact with the ground. As a result, the berries do not lose their presentation, they always remain intact and beautiful.

A common feature of the methods is the use of strawberry plastic pipes. This equipment, which is used for growing plants, is standard and does not have any special differences from ordinary PVC structures.

It is worth noting that not all varieties are suitable for pipe growing. It is best to choose early species. They take root as quickly as possible and do not require serious and painstaking care.

Features of beds made of PVC pipes

Arrangement of strawberry beds in a pipe is a relatively new practice, but it has already won the recognition of crop lovers. They can be placed not only in the usual horizontal position, but also vertically. Such beds look quite original, they fit effectively into any landscape design. The only point that should be taken into account when constructing them in a greenhouse complex is the high probability of infection of the plantings with a fungal infection. In order to avoid the development of such negative consequences, it is mandatory to carry out timely processing of both the beds, and the seedlings of garden strawberries, and the soil substrate with a working solution based on antifungal agents.

Important! If strawberries are affected by fungal diseases, it will be necessary to completely replace the soil with a new one, having previously disassembled the bed.

In general, it is quite easy to care for strawberries grown in vertical and horizontal beds. Here, just as in the traditional cultivation of crops, it is necessary to regularly carry out irrigation measures, feeding procedures, to fight parasitic individuals and diseases. Only such an agricultural technique as weeding loses its relevance.

For the successful cultivation of garden strawberries in pipes, it is recommended to give preference to varieties with a long fruiting period. Experienced gardeners note among the best options:

  • Albion;
  • Diamond;
  • Queen Elizabeth II;
  • Moscow delicacy;
  • Temptation;
  • Evie 2.

These remontant strawberry varieties have the following distinctive characteristics:

  • early ripening of the crop;
  • increased immunity to major diseases and pests;
  • the ability to bear fruit several times a year.

Also ampelous varieties of garden strawberries are in demand. This variety is distinguished by the presence of a long mustache. Remarkable is the fact that young rosettes can form fruits even without rooting. Ampel strawberry attracts the attention of plant growing enthusiasts also by its high decorativeness, a high degree of productivity. The planted plants look like a cascade of leaf plates and shoots, on which bright berries and beautiful inflorescences are abundantly formed.

Vertical fit

Pipes with a large diameter are closed with plugs and vertically dug into the ground. Having approximately selected its middle, insert a smaller pipe and fix it with expanded clay. Next, a soil mixture is poured into a thick pipe and seedlings are planted as it fills. Make small holes with your fingers and feel free to send seedlings there.It is important to remember that the root collar should be half buried, and the second part should be above the surface. After filling all the holes, you can attach a hose to a narrow pipe and water.

How and where to place pipe structures

Such beds can be placed vertically or horizontally. The advantages of vertical positioning:

  • saving space (several dozen bushes are placed per 1 m2);
  • saving water, fertilizers and pest drugs;
  • ensuring maximum illumination for all berry bushes;
  • convenience of harvesting;
  • the originality of the appearance of the facades, balconies, the adjacent area.
    Vertically arranged strawberry beds serve as the original decor of the site

Strawberry horizontal beds are also an effective way to grow crops and decorate your plot. They can be hung in a greenhouse, on a fence, installed in an isolated area, placing pipes in several tiers.

Suspended or ground-mounted racks can be used as a support for horizontal beds.

How to plant?

Planting strawberry seedlings occurs when the soil dries up a little.

If the pipe is in a vertical position, then before you start planting strawberries, it should be securely fixed in the working position.

To do this, you can tie the container with a rope to vertically arranged posts, and when organizing several “strawberry” pipes in a row, you can fix it with a rope to a trellis made of thick wire.

In all cases of vertical arrangement, it is necessary to exclude the possibility of the beds swaying in the wind.

When placed horizontally it is necessary to close the main pipe with plugs, and position it so that the holes for planting strawberries are facing up.

Planting seedlings is carried out in the following order:

  1. A small depression is made in the ground.
  2. Seedlings are planted in a hole.
  3. Plants are securely fixed in a dimple with moist soil.

When grown upright, the bottom holes can be left empty. Subsequently, it will be possible to place an outlet in them, which will be launched by the bush located above. This option is not suitable for remontant and other dry strawberry varieties.

What it is

Vertical strawberry beds are the planting of strawberry seedlings in vertical containers. Such containers can be made without much difficulty by any gardener, even those who do not have much experience. It is quite possible to use pipes, boards, tires, plastic bottles and bags as material.

Gardening Tips

Summing up, you can give the following basic recommendations that can be useful to people who grow strawberries:

  1. Properly organized vertical structures can be placed not only in summer cottages, but also on balconies and loggias of city apartments.
  2. With the help of boards on the structure, it is possible to organize numerous additional tiers. If the weather is warm outside, then containers with seedlings can be placed on them, which will subsequently be transplanted into pipes.
  3. Structures can be placed along fences and additionally decoratedthen they will be the perfect complement to your garden design.

How to grow PVC strawberry seedlings

Planting with this method is only becoming more popular every season. The most important thing is to properly configure the entire system. Why a system? Because the construction of pipes, which we will talk about a little later, is not just a container with holes, but a system in which favorable conditions for growing plants are created.

Growing horizontally may seem like the most convenient way.Seedlings are placed at a distance of about 20 cm from each other. You can make holes in the pipe with a diameter of about 13 cm, or you can just carefully cut off the upper part of it.

The ends of the pipe are closed with plugs, but at the bottom there will be a hole for excess water. We will talk more about the preparation of pipes a little later. Next, a favorable growing environment is prepared, soils are selected, an irrigation system is installed. Drip irrigation will be as convenient as possible for strawberries.

Strawberries in PVC pipes are vertically planted in a slightly different way. The wells must be staggered in the same proportions as in the horizontal method. The distance between the cells must be at least 20 cm.

A plug is placed at the bottom of the pipe, and then the drainage is filled up. In order for watering in this way to be uniform, and the water does not drain to the bottom of the structure, it is necessary to place an additional pipe with a smaller diameter in which holes are made, and it itself is wrapped in geotextile. Such a pipe will be higher than the landing one. The holes in it will need to be located 30 cm from the ground so that there is no stagnation of water.

Preparation of plastic pipes

To create strawberry beds, pieces of polymer pipes with different diameters are needed: larger for the substrate, smaller for supplying plants with water.

Additionally you will need:

  • soil, crushed stone or gravel;
  • plugs, plugs, fasteners;
  • rope and canvas or burlap.

From tools, a drill with attachments and a knife are useful.

Having decided on the length, holes are drilled in the cut PVC pipe in one row with a diameter of 8 to 10 cm at intervals of 12-15 cm.In it, 3-5 mm holes are drilled in 3 rows in 10 cm increments.There are no holes to make at a distance of 15 cm from the bottom necessity.

A burlap wrapped around a kind of watering hose and attached with a string distributes moisture evenly. They are not made at a distance of 20 to 25 cm from the cut. The vertically fixed structure is closed with a stopper at the bottom (horizontally located at both ends) and sealed.

In each large pipe, a small one (for water) is fixed. Drainage crushed stone and soil make the structure more stable. Strengthen it by any available method.

Growing features

Priming

In specialized stores, you can buy ready-made soil for growing strawberries or prepare it yourself. For thisth you need to mix:

  • 1 part of the land from the garden on the site;
  • 1 part of sod land;
  • 1 part peat;
  • sawdust, sand, ash.

Growing strawberries in a greenhouse

Ash is a good fertilizer, protects the plant from rotting. Sawdust and sand are needed for air penetration. To disinfect the soil, it is poured over with boiling water, dried and treated with Fitosporin or disinfected with manganese.

Important! Top dressing in the form of a complex fertilizer should be applied to the soil once every fortnight, following the instructions on the package with complex fertilizers.

Landing

Planting strawberries is best done in early spring. The roots should be dipped in the stimulating solution before planting.

Seedlings can be purchased or grown independently by separating tendrils or splitting a bush.

As a rule, in the second year, strawberries give a particularly large harvest, in the fourth - very little. Therefore, after the third year, old strawberries should be replaced with young seedlings.

Strawberry microclimate and lighting

Strawberries prefer warmth, are afraid of frost. At night, the temperature should not be lower than +18 degrees, during the day it should be acceptable within + 23-26 degrees. Humidity is kept at 65-75%.

Daylight hours lasts 12-14 hours. For this duration, artificial lighting for strawberries in greenhouses in PVC pipes or another room is used.

Strawberries prefer warmth, are afraid of frost

Protection from pests and diseases

Since strawberries grow high above the ground, pests do not attack them. Strawberries are very rare. As soon as a bush with affected leaves appears, it and the soil that is around it must be removed from the pipe.

If a Colorado potato beetle, a weevil, a whitefly or a strawberry mite appears on the strawberry, then they can be easily removed by hand. In case of massive damage to the plant, sprinkle with karbofos.

Important! To make it difficult for pests to reach the lower tiers of pipes, it is worth planting marigolds or other plants in the nearby soil that have a pungent smell that repels insects.

Winter period

Strawberries grew in the summer on a personal plot without problems, but with the onset of cold temperatures, they can die.

The structure of horizontal pipes is mobile, it can be transferred to a greenhouse with heating or other storage room and the opportunity to winter comfortably.

Vertical bed care

Strawberry care is not easy, but to get a generous harvest, you must follow the rules of care.

When grown vertically, the soil dries out very quickly, therefore, the shedding is frequent and abundant. Watering time can be determined by the state of the earth, if the soil has dried out at a depth of 2 cm, then the plant needs moisture.

Important! An excess of moisture adversely affects the root system, the seedlings quickly rot and die.

To obtain a rich harvest, it is better to do drip irrigation. This method will not only save time, but will also be able to control the amount of water flowing to the roots.

Top dressing is carried out in conjunction with watering. A high yield can only be obtained with good nutrition. Top dressing is carried out:

  • during the growth of the root system - complex fertilizers with microelements with the addition of humus;
  • during flowering - phosphorus-potassium fertilizing;
  • during the fruiting period - organic feeding.

Important! If strawberries grow indoors, then feeding should be done more often and with solutions of lower concentration.

During the period when the first fruits appear, the soil is mulched with sawdust or cut grass. Mulch will reduce the risk of sulfur rot.

In autumn, after fruiting, vertical pipes with a plant must be covered with a covering material or taken to a cool room.

Strawberries grown in vertical tubes are much more productive as the berries are not affected by gray rot and mice, slugs and snails cannot reach them.

Planting strawberry seedlings in tubes

Strawberry seedlings can be planted while filling the pipes with soil or at the end, when the structure is fully assembled, secured and watered. For planting, healthy strawberry seedlings are selected, the roots of which are recommended to be dipped in a mash made of equal parts of clay and manure. This treatment will help the plant retain moisture better. A vertical depression is made in the soil, where the roots are placed, making sure that they do not bend. The root collar of the seedling is placed at ground level.

Seedlings can not be transplanted into every planting hole. This arrangement will make it possible to root the young shoots that are formed, to renew and rejuvenate the planting of strawberries.

Option 4: plastic bottle beds

You can easily build good beds from plastic bottles. They can be suspended, then they are performed as option No. 2 with pipes. But plastic bottles are too light material, so it is better to place them near a fence, near the walls of a house or garage. The entire wall can be decorated with such makeshift pots.

To create a bed, ordinary plastic bottles are taken. It is best to take 3-4 liter eggplants, because.the roots need enough soil. By themselves, the eggplants will be in a horizontal position. The side part, which is now located at the top, needs to be cut off in order to plant a bush in this hole. The eggplants must be bolted to the walls. Now you can cover them with earth and plant strawberries there.

How to save money on the process of creating beds?

Many gardeners believe that the creation of beds from PVC pipes is a very costly business and even with a good harvest, it is unlikely to be able to pay for itself. That is why we decided to provide you with a list of those things on which you can save a little.

  • Water the strawberries manually. In this case, you do not need the inner pipes.
  • You can make the plugs yourself by cutting them out of wood. You can fix this option with liquid nails or a film tied with wire.
  • Do not use ready-made soil, but prepare it yourself.

Choosing a strawberry variety for growing in PVC pipes

When choosing strawberries for growing in pipes, you should focus on varieties with long fruiting periods.

These can be remontant varieties:

  • Albion;
  • Queen Elizabeth II;
  • Moscow delicacy;
  • Evie 2;
  • Diamond;
  • Temptation.

They are attractive for the following features:

  • early ripening of berries;
  • resistance to diseases and pests;
  • repeated fruiting at the end of summer;
  • harvest of annual plantings.

Ampel varieties of strawberries are perfect for growing in pipes. This is a kind of remontant garden strawberry, characterized by a long mustache. Young rosettes are capable of forming berries even without rooting. In addition to high yields, these varieties are distinguished by excellent decorative properties. Landings are a cascade of leaves and shoots, which are strewn with bright berries and delicate inflorescences.

Major mistakes

The following are the most common mistakes that many summer residents and gardeners make when planting and growing strawberries in pipes.

Timely familiarization with them will prevent the risk of their recurrence in the future:

  1. Violations of the water regime. As already mentioned, the soil in the pipes is prone to drying out, but at the same time it should not be waterlogged either, since this quickly leads to rotting of the root system and the death of the cultivated bushes.
  2. Failure to comply with watering rules. This procedure should be carried out extremely carefully, no water is allowed on the leaves, trunks, whiskers, berries or inflorescences.
  3. Failure to comply with the landing dates. It is necessary to draw up a schedule and correctly calculate your time so that it will be enough for the installation of the structure and for the timely planting of seedlings. Any delays can lead to the fact that strawberries simply do not have time to adapt to a new place and will meet winter in an unprepared state, which can lead to its death.
  4. Treatment with various insecticides or other means of bushes on which there are berries. All such procedures should be carried out only strictly after harvesting a ripe crop.

Types of beds for strawberry PVC sewer pipes

In practical use, there are two options for the location of the beds for strawberries from sewer pipes:

  • Vertical beds;
  • Horizontal beds.

The vertical design is great for areas with limited floor space. The advantage of this design is that, compared to traditional strawberry beds, a vertically located plantation can accommodate 5 times more plants.

An example of a vertical arrangement is a traditional plank pyramid, in which plants are located on several tiers. The height of each tier is 15-18 cm, the width is 10-12 cm. For plastic pipes, a pipe with a diameter of 150, 200 or 250 mm is used. The structure is a pipe with holes drilled in it with a diameter of 50-70 mm.A smaller diameter pipe is inserted into the central part with a perforation of 8-10 mm every 50-60 mm. In the lower part, drainage is formed from stones and gravel, the cavity between the pipes is filled with soil substrate. Since strawberries love sandy soil, it is imperative to add sand to the peat. Backfilling is done in several stages, with compulsory compaction along the entire perimeter. To prevent the soil from spilling out through the holes in the outer pipe during filling, they can be sealed with tape during filling.

Construction manufacturing process

The creation of a structure requires a sufficient amount of free time and some materials:

  • pipes with a diameter of 15 and 5 centimeters or cuttings from them;
  • end caps corresponding to the size of the pipes;
  • drill for making holes in PVC material;
  • geotextile;
  • expanded clay for drainage;
  • soil mixture;
  • roulette;
  • hose.

Tools for creating beds from PVC pipes

Before proceeding with the creation of the structure, you should decide on the landing option and the place for installing the pipes. If you plan to breed a small amount of strawberries, then you can install the structure along the fence. But when growing a large number of berries, you will need pipe supports. It is important to know that the support must be strong and reliable, since the mass of a two-meter filled pipe is about 25 kilograms. They can be made gable and in the form of a pyramid.

Advertisement 1

At the first stage, the pipes are cut to the selected length. Those with a smaller diameter may be 15 centimeters shorter as they will be used to create the irrigation system. Next, you need to make holes. Holes with a diameter of about 8 centimeters are made in wide pipes and they are repeated every 15 centimeters. The thin ones should have three rows of holes with a diameter of 0.5 to 1 centimeter, the distance between which is 10 centimeters. The smaller pipe is then wrapped in geotextile and secured with twine. The subsequent actions depend on the selected landing option: horizontal or vertical.

Strawberry cultivation technology

Planting strawberries in plastic pipes is carried out in two ways:

  • using soil;
  • in hydroponics.

Horizontally in pipes with soil

On a note. This method is characterized by filling the pipe with soil in which the strawberries grow.

For this you need:

  1. Grow strawberries in PVC sewer pipes with a diameter of 150-200 mm. In it, make windows with a diameter of 10 cm every 15 cm. Place plugs along the edges of the pipe. They are sold, but you can make your own. The plastic film is rolled up in several layers, pulled tightly over the end of the pipe and carefully wound with a cord or metal line. Small holes are made at the bottom of the pipe for drainage.
  2. Expanded clay is evenly poured into the main pipe 3 cm in height.Important! Strawberries love slightly acidic soil, expanded clay alkalizes it, therefore, the day before, it is left for half a day in water with slightly diluted vinegar.
  3. The watering tube is placed on top of the drainage stones, the free end passes through the window drilled for it in the plug of the main pipe and, using a fitting, is connected to the tube from the watering pump.
  4. The earth, previously disinfected with manganese, is poured into the main pipe through the holes. The pipe is shaken to distribute the soil evenly, crush the soil a little. There should be no empty voids left.
  5. Saplings are planted in 2 pieces in one hole and watered immediately.Important! Saplings should be with a developed root system of 10 cm, first hardened in a cool, unlit room for 5 days.
  6. Watering is carried out using a conventional tank installed above the level of the pipe. Water enters the soil by gravity or from a tank with an electric pump on an auto-timer.
  7. You can use a drip irrigation system.Attach a thin irrigation pipe from the outside, make holes 2-3 mm in it, as the diameter of the small tubes that will come out of it. Place the straws exactly opposite the strawberry planting sites in the large pipe. Wrap their ends with a protective layer of fabric from clogging with soil and place under the root of a strawberry bush.

    Additional Information. As small tubes, you can use part of the tube from the dropper with a regulator of the rate of formation of drops.

    In horizontal PVC pipes by hydroponic method

    Using the method of hydroponics, a plant is grown without soil on water, with the retention of the roots with breathable substrates, which are bought only in specialized stores.

    There is a ready-made solution, or it can be easily made by adding in a certain proportion all the valuable elements important for growth and full development to water that has been previously settled or filtered.
