How to root a stalk and propagate a rose from a bouquet at home

Cuttings

South American, Dutch, Brazilian shrubs are absolutely not suitable for growing roses from cuttings. In order for them to reach us, they are treated with various substances that preserve them. Although some gardeners succeed in rooting them.

Slicing

For the experience to be successful, make the correct cuts.

  1. Choose the stem of the rose, which has begun to grow bark: still green, but already darkened.
  2. Cut the shoots about 15-20 cm with three buds.
  3. A cut above the upper kidney at a distance of 0.5 cm is straight, under the lower one by 1 cm at an angle of 45 degrees.
  4. Prepare as many cuttings as possible. This will increase the chance of getting the desired bush.
  5. Cut off the lower leaves, remove half of the upper ones, as in the photo below.

Planting care

Rooting takes place, as a rule, after 2-3 weeks. How to plant a rose from a bouquet at home and take care of it step by step is presented in the table.

During growth, be sure to do the following:

Item No.Act
1.The pots are inspected periodically. If the soil is dry, spray it. If the soil is wet, ventilate so that rot does not appear.
2.After 1-2 weeks, after the appearance of the first leaves, the protective materials are removed.
3.Excess mature plants are transplanted into pots with a diameter of 9 cm.
4.Once a week or on dry soil, watered, avoiding waterlogging.
5.During the growth of pink cuttings, every 14 days, root fertilization is performed with mineral fertilizers.
6.If it is a warm spring or summer outside, the plants are taken out onto a glazed loggia, accustoming them to sunlight.
7.If boxes with flowers are in the country, they are placed near a warm wall and covered with spunbond.
8.At the end of spring, rooted roses can be planted in open ground using the transshipment method so as not to disturb the root ball. Bushes can be there until autumn.

The above is a way to plant a rose from a bouquet at home step by step with a photo in pots.

Burrito Rose Green Cutting Method

This method will come in handy if the roses from the bouquet are a little bit attached or damaged. The name "burrito" is conditional, in fact, the cuttings are wrapped in a newspaper, which is why they resemble a rolled Mexican flatbread. Thanks to this method, you can prepare many seedlings and experiment with the amount of moisture.

Take the thickest cuttings 20-25 cm long, remove all leaves from them and treat with fertilizer that accelerates the growth of the root system. Wrap the finished shoots in a damp newspaper or moisten it with water later. The excess liquid should drain, the paper should remain moist, but not fall apart. After that, place the bundle in a plastic bag and leave it in a place where the temperature is constantly +18 degrees.

The contents of the "Burrito" should be examined once a week to check the degree of development of the shoots. Moisten the newspaper if necessary, it should not be too dry. If any stalk begins to rot or rot, discard it and replace the paper with a new one. After 2-4 weeks, a caplus appears in the damaged areas - growths, from which the root of the plant then develops. This is a sure sign that roses can be transplanted into a flower pot, and in the spring - into a garden.

Water environment

Have you noticed that when we forget to throw away a bouquet of roses in a vase, its leaves fall off, and small twigs appear in their place? This means that your conditions of existence suit him and he began to come to life.

Indeed, you can plant and grow a rose from a bouquet at home in an aqueous solution. Let's consider how this is done step by step, consolidate knowledge through video and photos.

Put a clean jar on the table, closer to the light, fill it with settled water or spring water, but at room temperature. If there is no well, buy regular water, which is sold in five-liter bottles. Add Zircon to the water, which strengthens plant immunity.

Place the cuttings. For more effect, you can cover the roses. After about 2 weeks, they will start to take root. You will feel it when you see young leaves.

Do not remove the bush from the water until the roots are fully formed, which will occur no earlier than a month later. In the air, the shallow root system can die immediately. Before transplanting mature plants into the soil, prepare it in the same way as we described above.

Potatoes

One of the most reliable ways that can be. Let's see how to plant a rose from a bouquet at home in potatoes.

Why such difficulties, you ask? Because the potato gives the rose all the nutrients, filling it with vitamins and minerals, and also protects the lower parts of the plant from bacteria and viruses.

  1. Take young potatoes without damage. It is best to carry out the process in the spring, when the sap flow is just beginning.
  2. Cut off all the eyes to prevent them from growing with the roses and taking nutrients from the plants.
  3. Treat the slanted cuttings with antibacterial cinnamon.
  4. Stick part of the pink stem into the potato, because it is worth planting a rose from a bouquet at home in a potato so that it will germinate for sure.
  5. Leave for a while so that the plant is saturated with nutrients.
  6. While preparing the pots, fill them one third with soil, treat with fungicide. Do not forget to put drainage on the bottom.
  7. Place potatoes with a rose in the center of the container, cover with soil and tamp.
  8. Then follow the same rules as when planting without potatoes.

The nuances of growing different varieties of roses

Garden queen varieties have their own care requirements.

Climbing varieties

Requires a sunny, ventilated place with the possibility of shelter for the winter. If you want to plant such a rose against the wall, then step back half a meter from it. This rose does not tolerate stagnant water. Clumber climbing varieties are pruned for the winter, and Rambler are laid for the winter by pinning to the ground.

Climbing varieties of roses are good for decorating gazebos, arches and walls of houses

Groundcover

Their feature is that there is no need for winter pruning. Also, they can not be covered if the snow cover in the place of growth is high. Such a beauty blooms very profusely, so it really needs feeding. Does not tolerate swampy soils and excess moisture. Plant pruning is carried out every 6-7 years in order to rejuvenate the bush.

Ground cover varieties of roses are used to decorate plots

Park roses

The most drought-resistant and undemanding. Loamy soil is preferred, but without excess moisture. Photophilous, but allow shading for a small part of the day.

Park roses are unpretentious and require less watering

Floribunda

An unpretentious frost-resistant variety with a long flowering period. A wide variety of color shades. The landing site should be sunny and protected from drafts. The rose is demanding on nutrition, so they plant it at a distance of at least 40 cm from each other and feed it well.

Floribunda roses are frost-resistant and bloom for a long time

Home varieties

Many varieties of roses are grown at home. The peculiarities of growing are that such flowers also need a dormant period. From the end of November, she will lose all the foliage. The pot is placed in a cool room (from +4 to +12 degrees Celsius). Water sparingly, when the soil dries up. Domestic beauties wake up in mid-February.

Do not make the rose suffer near heating radiators!

Other ways to propagate roses from bouquets

  1. Sphagnum moss... Buy or collect moss, spread it on a wet towel, stick pink shoots into it at different distances, gently wrap it in a towel so that the tops are visible, put it in a glass or jar. Water the towel as it dries.
  2. Absorbent... Take your regular baby diapers. Soak them and wrap the cuttings in them, then place them in a glass. You can cut the diaper, pour the absorbent substance out of it into a plastic container and stick the rose, water well, the material will swell and gradually release water.
  3. Hydrogel... A substance related to polymers. A special material that absorbs water well together with nutrients dissolved in it. 1 g of dry matter absorbs up to 300 ml of solution. Excess moisture in pots does not stagnate, as it is absorbed by the hydrogel.
  4. Plastic bag... It can be used instead of a container if nothing is at hand. It should be deep (several centimeters larger than the cutting) and not leaky. Pour the solution into it or pour it on a third of the earth, insert the cutting. Tie the bag with string or paper clips. It can be kept hanging. For example, hang on top of a window frame.
  5. Perlite granules... Used as an independent hydroponic substrate. Perlite is a light colored volcanic rock, very well filled with liquid, returning it back to roses. Named after pearls, which in most languages are denoted by the word pearl. The substrate has good air exchange. It does not decompose and does not rot, which has a beneficial effect on the roots of plants. It is environmentally friendly, and also protects roses from excessive overheating or hypothermia.
  6. In the ground above the water... Landing is done in the same way as in the main ways. But for her it is better to take a beer plastic glass. Punch a lot of holes in the bottom, fill in the soil, stick in the roses, water lightly. Take out another glass, pour a third of water into it, put it on the bottom of a transparent bag. On top of it is a prepared container with a handle, tie the bag. It will turn out to be a small greenhouse. The water evaporates and will moisten the upper soil.
  7. Closed plastic bottle... The same effect can be obtained if you take 1.5-2 liter plastic bottles. Pour the solution with the root, push the handle into the neck, screw on the lid.
  8. Sawdust... Instead of the substrate, you can use sawdust undiluted with soil. X is poured into a container and moisturized well. Air passes well between the wood. The only thing to remember is that in most industries where you can get sawdust, pine is used, which can acidify water and soil, which is harmful to roses. To prevent this from happening, add lime when watering, for example, crush chalk.
  9. Water with honey... The planting method is not original, as it has something in common with growing in jars of water, but you can add a few tablespoons of honey there, mixing the solution well. Honey, as an antiviral agent, will protect roses from adverse conditions. It is also an excellent food, as the sugar contained in it is carbohydrates necessary for photosynthesis of plants.

Cutting a rose is a popular and effective procedure

The most popular and frequently used method is cuttings.This method is used by the vast majority of flower growers who value its simplicity and efficiency. Also read the article on growing a climbing rose.

Selection of source material

The florist will need to prepare the source material by choosing specimens from a bouquet with live leaves, buds, strong, sturdy stems that are in the lignification stage. Conclusions can be drawn about this by paying attention to the color of the shoots, the compaction of their skin. It is necessary to abandon the use of immature, overly thin petioles, as well as completely lignified specimens with a thick core.
Roses that have stood in non-replaceable water for several days will be unsuitable for rooting, since harmful microorganisms are guaranteed to penetrate into the tissues of their stems. It is best not to postpone grafting for a long time, but to carry out the procedure in the evening of the same day when the bouquet was presented or purchased. If it is impossible to perform the work promptly, you should leave the flowers overnight in clean, cold water, after cutting off the ends of their stems by 1.5 cm.

In order for the grafting of roses to be successful, it is advisable to give preference to fresh flowers cut at the beginning of the summer season, grown in local climatic conditions. The varieties imported from abroad, hybrids are treated with chemicals, which negatively affects their rooting ability.

As practice shows, effective cultivation of roses by cuttings can be counted on using stems topped with pink or red flowers. The rooting process for specimens with yellow, orange petals is considered more problematic. The least chance of success is when working with cuttings of white roses.

Recommended terms of work

To count on good cuttings of roses from a bouquet, it is advisable to perform a similar procedure at the end of spring - in autumn. It is worth noting that in June the growth of shoots is the most intense, in August-September the vitality of the plant decreases, which negatively affects the process of root formation.

Choosing a different timing may cause poor rooting of cut specimens. The most unfavorable period is considered to be January - February. At this time, the results of the work of an inexperienced grower may be negative. How to properly grow roses from a bouquet in winter at home: you will need to ensure that plants maintain optimal illumination, temperature, humidity.

Harvesting cuttings of roses

For the first stage of work, you should arm yourself with a sharp knife, pruner. This will avoid unnecessary trauma to the cut stems. An experienced florist, who knows how to propagate roses by cuttings, must first disinfect the tool in order to exclude contamination of the planting specimens.

For roses selected from a bouquet, unopened buds and blossoming flowers are removed. Then the stems are cut into cuttings (15 - 30 cm long).

The technology of the procedure is as follows: an oblique cut is made under the lower kidney with an indent of 1 cm, and then a straight cut is made above the kidney located above. As a result, you need to get pieces of stems, each of which will have 2 - 3 future buds of shoots. It is allowed to prepare cuttings of roses (6 - 8 cm long) with one bud located in the middle, in the presence of a small number of flowers in the bouquet.

From the resulting planting material, the lower leaves are removed, and the upper ones are shortened by 1/3.

This procedure will help preserve moisture and prevent the shoots from drying out. Tearing off all the leaves is discouraged as this can adversely affect sap circulation. The last thing to do is to get rid of the thorns on the stem.

Use of growth stimulants

Next, pour clean, settled water into the prepared container and dilute the root formation stimulator in it. You can use purchased drugs (Kornevin, Epin, Heteroauxin, Charkor), the recommended dosage of which is published on the package. To stimulate the rooting of roses, cuttings are placed in the resulting liquid with immersion 1/3 of the length for 6 hours.

You can also use a solution containing water (glass), aloe juice (20 drops) or honey (teaspoon), the cut stems are soaked in it for at least a day.

What roses are suitable for rooting from a bouquet

Acclimatized varieties of roses, that is, domestic hybrids, have a good survival rate during rooting.

Dutch and other varieties grown in greenhouse conditions in other countries are less tenacious, since they are amenable to chemical treatment before transportation. However, experienced flower growers may try to grow a bush of an imported variety - with due diligence, planting material can produce petioles.

Plays a role for the successful cultivation of a rose from a bouquet at home and the color of the bud. Yellow-flowered, orange, white and greenish varieties are unlikely to take root in the garden, but pink and red roses give roots rather quickly and resist well the negative influences of the external environment.

If you are going to root a rose cut into a bouquet, do not keep it in a vase for more than a day. The thing is that a long stay in water provokes rotting of the sections, and harmful microorganisms penetrate into the tissue of the stems and reduce the ability of the plant to give roots.

Choosing quality cuttings

Before you root cuttings from a bouquet, you need to choose high-quality planting material, which is most likely to turn into a strong and healthy rose bush in the future. Plants with the following characteristics are suitable for cuttings:

  • Strong healthy stems at the initial stage of lignification;
  • With easily breakable thorns;
  • Medium hardness and green;
  • No signs of wilting, drying or external damage;
  • With "live" kidneys.

You should not take completely lignified shoots with a thick core as planting material, since they will not tolerate prolonged moisture and will rot as a result. Thin unripe stems also do not have time to take root before the onset of cold weather, therefore, with a high degree of probability, they will die in winter.

When is it better to root a purchased rose

It is possible to count on a positive result of cuttings if the rooting work is carried out in late spring and before autumn. June is considered the ideal month for the growth of shoots, since it is during this period that the vegetative processes are most intense. In August-September, the movement of juices along the stems slows down and practically comes to naught until winter.

In the rest of the year, grafting is not worth it - the planting material will still not give good roots. The most unfavorable period for planting is January-February, but you can still try. As practice shows, if the roses are provided with sufficient illumination, temperature and humidity, the cultivation will be very successful.

Rooting methods for cuttings

Experienced flower growers who know how to root a bush rose from a cut bouquet practice several methods of performing this procedure. The most commonly used methods are in water, in soil with cover, in a potato tuber, in a bag. The features of each of them are discussed below.

Rooting of planting material in water

In order to easily grow roses from a bouquet at home, it is worth using the rooting of planting material in a glass container with water (settled or filtered), into which it is desirable to add charcoal for disinfection. This method is considered the easiest.Only the lower sections of the petioles are subject to immersion in order to prevent tissue decay.

Regularly (every 2 days), you should change the existing water to clean water within 2 - 3 weeks. After 15 - 20 days in the area of the slices, whitish growths will begin to be seen - the rudiments of the roots. This is a signal to transplant the cuttings into the soil. There is no need to rush to hold such an event, it is better to give the opportunity to form stronger roots.

Briefly about growing a rose at home

Monstera - breeding at home

Having learned how to plant roses at home, you should familiarize yourself with the usual care requirements for this culture:

  • Drying out the soil or excessive moisture has a detrimental effect on roses, so watering should be regular, but moderate. In summer, moisture should be more abundant than in other seasons.
  • Evaporation in room conditions is faster, so feeding should be done more often than for soil roses. Organics and minerals should be added once every two weeks.
  • You can not feed a sick or pest-affected plant.
  • During the flowering period, it is necessary to remove the faded buds.
  • Before the onset of winter, the stems must be shortened to 10 cm, leaving no more than 5 buds on the shoots.

The described methods help to propagate rose bushes at home. Correctly fulfilling the requirements for care, you can acquire excellent planting material in sufficient quantities and grow new luxurious specimens from bouquet flowers.

Landing in a permanent place

The optimal time for planting rooted cuttings is late spring. A gardener who knows how to grow a bush from a bouquet of roses will probably prefer a sunny, sheltered from the winds, not flooded area.

The dimensions of the dug holes must correspond to the size of the roots, organic matter is used to fertilize the soil. Before identifying seedlings in the ground for a permanent place of growth, they will need to trim the stems, leaving a maximum of 4 buds.

After the end of planting, the soil must be watered, mulched using peat, sawdust. Bushes should provide reliable shading. The start of the development of seedlings can be expected in 2 weeks. After the growing shoots reach a height of 12 - 15 cm, you will need to feed the bushes using complex fertilizers, infusion of mullein, herbs.

During the first year, young plants root thoroughly, which is why it is required to remove all buds that form from them. This will give them the opportunity to focus all their energy on growth. In anticipation of the onset of cold weather, roses should be provided with reliable shelter.

Prudent florists practice digging up especially valuable varieties, storing them until spring in a room with maintaining the desired humidity level, which prevents the roots from drying out.

How to grow a rooted rose

When a rooted rose can be planted in the ground

When a rooted rose can be planted in the ground

If the cuttings are planted in a pot before winter, the plants will root well by spring and can be planted in open ground.

Cuttings rooted in the spring and summer are ready for transplanting in the spring. By this time they will grow up, get stronger and will be completely ready for transplantation.

Plants growing in a common box can be planted at the end of April. The usual time for planting seedlings with a closed root system is the second decade of May. It is better to plant seedlings in cloudy weather or in the evening.

From November to February, rooted cuttings are kept in a cool place at an air temperature of 10 degrees with high humidity. They need to be watered once every 4-5 days.

Since February, roses are actively growing. In a shoot with 4-5 leaves, the upper bud is cut off, which leads to regrowth of the shoots on the sides. At the same time, watering increases.

Fertilizing with mineral fertilizers is carried out every 10 days (1 tablespoon per bucket of water).

It is recommended to replant the cuttings to a permanent place after the formation of strong young shoots. In the spring, after frosts, roses with an earthy clod are transplanted into the garden at a prepared place. Before planting in the ground, they need to be watered.

If necessary, planting cuttings with an earthen clod can be done both in the summer and in the autumn, but in these cases they need more attention. In summer, plants require a lot of moisture. These roses need to be watered more often than others.

And the plants planted before winter must have time to take root in a new place and they must be carefully wrapped up for the winter period.

Caring for a rose from a cutting

When a rooted rose can be planted in the ground

The best time to plant rooted cuttings is late spring. The place for planting roses should be well lit and not blown by gusty, cold winds. The depth of the planting holes should be equal to the size of the roots. The soil in the hole is fertilized with organic matter or mineral fertilizers. Before planting, the stems are cut from the seedlings, 3-4 buds remain.

The rose is removed from the container, installed in a pit, so that the surface of the soil is at the level of the surface of the flower garden. The hole is filled with a mixture of soil with rotted compost and thoroughly watered.

After planting, the land is thoroughly watered with settled water, mulched with peat or rotted or steamed sawdust. The bushes are covered from the sun with any non-woven material.

Cuttings planted in the ground begin to grow in 10-15 days. After reaching new shoots with a height of 13-15 centimeters, roses are fed with infusion of mullein, chicken droppings or complex mineral fertilizers.

You need to feed roses 4 times per season. For this, complex mineral fertilizers containing phosphorus and nitrogen are used. You can also use the infusion of bird droppings or mullein diluted in water in a ratio of 1:10. Organic matter must be poured directly under the root so that it does not fall on the plants, as burns may appear.

If a rooted cutting is planted in the summer, it should be watered as often as possible. The soil under the plant must always be moist. For a better passage of moisture, the earth is loosened after each watering. To retain moisture, the soil is covered with vegetable mulch after loosening.

In the first year of life of rose bushes, they should not be allowed to bloom. All buds that appear are cut off. At the same time, the plants will grow rapidly and get stronger. In a year, young bushes will delight you with full flowering.

With the onset of autumn, young bushes need to be provided with a good shelter to protect them from the cold winter.

Rare varieties can be dug up and stored in a cool room until spring. At the same time, it is necessary to maintain the necessary moisture so that the root system of the plants does not dry out. In the spring, they are transplanted back into the ground.

It is quite possible to grow beautiful garden roses from a bouquet

Having studied how to cut roses in the summer, at other times of the year, you can make sure that it is quite possible to grow a flower that delights with magnificent flowering. The main thing is not to be afraid of difficulties and competently, responsibly approach the implementation of all stages of work. A lot of useful information in the article: When does the peony season begin for the most popular crop varieties?

Sometimes you don't want to part with the flowers you donated. In this case, you can make a little effort and grow seedlings for further planting in permanent soil.

Many people are interested in how to grow a rose from a cut from a bouquet. Especially if the variety is unusual or extremely dear to the heart. If you wish, you can root the flower you like, and you should not delay with this.

How to grow roses from a gift bouquet in the summer

In the warm season, it is easiest to grow a rose from a bouquet in the open field, in the garden. The best time for this is April, May, June, July.Later, there is no sense in planting cuttings in the ground.

In order for young roses to bloom next year, it is not enough to root them, they still need to overwinter, and this is also not an easy task. Roses rooted in summer do not have time to grow a sufficiently powerful root system until autumn, and therefore they winter poorly the first winter.

If a stem from a bouquet planted in spring or early summer quickly began to grow, then it can be left to winter in the garden. Of course, it should be covered warmer than adult rose bushes. It is best to cover it with leaves, grass, and cover with lutrasil on top.

It is pointless to leave the shanks of roses planted in the middle of summer, and even not immediately accepted, in the garden for the winter. They will surely die. In early October, such specimens will have to be dug up and transplanted into pots, and with the onset of frost, placed in a cellar or a room with similar conditions.

Attempts to winter at home, on the windowsill, rarely end well. Rosettes, if they grow, are frail, elongated and most often all the same die.

Preparing a stem from a bouquet for planting

Since we will cut the stems from the flowers that were in the bouquet, we must carefully examine the stem and select such fragments where there are three healthy, living buds in a row. The stem itself should not be shriveled or blackened by water.

With a sharp knife or pruner, cut out a fragment of the stem with three buds. Make the lower cut directly under the kidney, and the upper one 1 cm above the kidney. Remove the bottom sheet and this preparation can be considered complete.

Whether or not to use root or heteroauxin is up to you. As I already wrote, there is not much use from them, but there is no harm either

Planting soil

In the place where you will grow roses, pour sand and dig up the soil so that the ratio of sand to earth is about 1: 1

What to make a greenhouse

It is very practical to cover the roses with jars or cut plastic bottles (5 liter). Throughout the summer, banks do not need to be removed or lifted. Even leave the plant for the winter under these jars - bottles, only cover it further on top.

This is how a young rose grows out of a bouquet.

Water between the jars too, and control the humidity by perspiration on the glass. If the glass is fogged up, it is too early to water.

Choosing a place to grow roses

It is most convenient to place the cuttings somewhere under the trees so that the sun hits them only from time to time.

In general, the summer cuttings of roses in the garden are very strongly, if not entirely, dependent on the weather. As you know, the optimum temperature for cuttings is 24 - 26º. But if in the summer in the shade, in the same Saratov, it happens + 40º, then how much is under the jar, and if the sun is also shining on it!

A rainy and cold summer will also be a test for young plants. But even under such extreme conditions, some of the cuttings still root and grow no matter what. But only in favorable weather, the yield is up to 100%, and in unfavorable weather up to 10%

Time frames for cuttings roses

The most successful will be the propagation of roses by cuttings that were cut in the first summer months. It is advisable that the flowers are previously grown in the local climate and not treated with chemicals to prolong the life of the buds.

The best times for germination of cuttings are June days, while in August it will be more difficult to achieve the formation of roots on the stems. The hardest part is to grow the plant during the winter months, and keep the cuttings of the roses until spring.

Do not delay receiving cuttings for several days after receiving the bouquet. Fresh flowers brought home on the same day are more likely to germinate.

How to prepare cuttings correctly?

For grafting, it is necessary to select the strongest flowers with beautiful buds from the bouquet.Their stems should be at the initial stage of lignification, that is, be brown. Too immature ones do not yet have the strength to germinate, and dark brown ones are already beginning to rot.

If the flowers are fresh, cuttings can be prepared immediately. When the roses have stood in the vase for a couple of days, it is necessary to cut off the cuts by a couple of centimeters and place them in cold water for 4-6 hours.

Preparing cuttings:

  1. Cut the buds from the selected flowers. You will no longer need them to plant flowers.
  2. Cut the stems into cuttings from 15 to 30 cm. It is recommended to leave at least 3 buds on each cuttings. The top should be 1 cm below the end of the apex, and the bottom should be 2 cm above the base.
  3. The top cut should be straight, the bottom cut at an acute angle.
  4. Remove all the lower leaves from the cutting, and cut the upper ones by a third.
  5. Place the cut stems in water to which the root growth stimulant has been added for 6 hours.
  6. Then you can start rooting the rose in any way possible.

Cuttings that have been formed from the middle of the stem take root most well. However, it is recommended to keep all of them, as the chances of germination of most of the flowers increase.

Is it possible to grow a rose at home

Not everyone has a land plot at their disposal, but there is a window sill in every apartment. It is he who can be turned into a blooming rose garden. There are several varieties of roses for this, which include a wide variety of varieties:

Use of growth stimulants

To increase the chances of root germination and speed up this process, a ready-made preparation or one prepared by yourself should be added to the soaking water. It is necessary to soak the cuttings in solutions from purchased additives for several hours, while a self-prepared growth stimulator acts throughout the day.

What can you soak cuttings in:

  • Kornevin (1 gr.per 1 liter of water);
  • Heteroauxin (1 tablet for 2.5 liters of liquid);
  • Radifarm (2 drops per 1 liter of water);
  • Zircon (1 ml per 10 liters of liquid);
  • Epin extra (1 ampoule for 2 liters of water);
  • aloe juice (the composition forms 9 parts of water and 1 part of juice);
  • water with honey (1 teaspoon of beekeeping product is added to half a liter of liquid).

Of all the listed biostimulants, Radifarm is the most active. Therefore, the time for soaking cuttings in it is reduced to 30 minutes.

Rooting methods

There are several ways to grow a rose from a cutting. Most often, flowers are germinated in water or soil. However, there are more interesting options. For example, gardeners grow roses in bags, potato tubers or newspaper.

Germination in water

This option is the simplest, fastest and most affordable. An important step in germination in this way is the selection of high-quality water. Rain or spring liquid is most suitable, and tap water is also suitable.

However, the liquid from the pipeline must be prepared in advance. It must be filtered, and then allowed to stand for a day.

How to germinate roots:

  1. Pour a small amount of water into the jar.
  2. Dip the prepared cuttings into the liquid by about 1-3 cm.
  3. Remove the container to any place where direct sunlight does not fall.

The water should be changed every 2 days. Growing with this method takes about 3 weeks. Initially, white formations will appear on the stems, from which new roots will grow from the consequences. This method has a significant disadvantage - often part of the cuttings irrevocably rots.

In pots

The method of growing roses in pots is a little more complicated, and at the same time it is one of the most effective.

For rooting you will need:

  • bottom container for soil;
  • upper transparent - for the formation of a mini-greenhouse;
  • potassium permanganate solution;
  • priming;
  • some small stones and sand for drainage.

Initially, you need to choose a suitable container for disembarkation. If one cutting is grown, a 0.5 liter pot will suffice for it. Accordingly, with an increase in the number of future flowers, the capacity and its capacity increases.

Steps for rooting in a pot:

  1. Process the container for planting with potassium permanganate. This will disinfect it from harmful bacteria.
  2. Put small stones for drainage on the bottom, then pour in a suitable purchased soil mixture, tamp it slightly. You can prepare the soil yourself. To do this, you need to take garden soil and sand in a 2: 1 ratio. Be sure to disinfect the resulting soil.
  3. Make a small depression in the ground, place the stalk in it. If several of them are planted, the distance between them should be about 6 cm. Compact the loosened soil, pour with settled water.
  4. Form greenhouse conditions. To do this, cover the planted cuttings with a jar or plastic bottle if they are in a pot. The seedlings in the box are covered with foil.
  5. As the topsoil dries out, spray it with a spray bottle.

The room temperature should be at least 25 degrees during the day, and at night the mark on the thermometer should drop to 18. The germination of cuttings should be judged by the appearance of new light green shoots in about a month.

At this stage, it is necessary to periodically start removing the shelter from the roses. First, airing is performed for 3-5 minutes, then gradually the time can be increased. When full leaves appear, the greenhouse is removed completely.

Growing roses in a bag

Rooting the stems in a bag is also a way to help provide future seedlings with maximum moisture and greenhouse conditions. The method is good because it does not require additional packaging for planting.

Stages of growing a rose:

  1. Fill the bag 1/3 full with soil suitable for these flowers.
  2. Treat the cut of the cutting with a solution to enhance root formation, place it in the ground.
  3. Fill the remaining space in the bag with air, tie and hang close to the window.

The first shoots begin to appear after 2 weeks. It will be possible to transplant the resulting seedlings into the ground in a month.

Using potatoes

The main advantage of growing a strong root system of a rose in a potato is a suitable tuber moisture and nutrition of the cuttings with an optimal amount of carbohydrates. This method allows you to get strong seedlings without spending much effort on it.

Initially, you need to prepare the potatoes. The tuber should be of medium size. It should not be rotten, have damaged areas or loose skin. Rinse the potatoes thoroughly, disinfect in a solution of potassium permanganate and dry.

How to germinate a rose stalk in a potato:

  1. Cut a groove in the tuber, a little short of the opposite side. In width, it should repeat the diameter of the stem.
  2. Treat the cut of the future flower with a growth stimulant, place the stem in the potato.
  3. Pour earth into a pot, put a tuber on it, sprinkle with soil on top.
  4. Drizzle with water.
  5. Set up your greenhouse as a bottle or jar.

When sprouts appear, it is recommended to start gradually ventilating the seedlings.After a couple of weeks, the top container must be removed completely.

Germination in the newspaper

This method is also called the "burrito method", as the cuttings rolled into the newspaper really resemble this food product in shape. From the materials you will need a bag, newspaper and chopped stems.

Germination steps with newspaper:

  1. Place several cuttings on paper at once. First bend it at both ends of the stems, and then roll it over. It will turn out from the newspaper a roll, inside which there are future seedlings.
  2. Dampen paper abundantly with water. Make sure that it does not break.
  3. Put the burrito in a plastic bag, tie it up.

The package should be removed to a place where the temperature will be kept at around 20 degrees. Once a week, you need to unfold the paper, moisten it, inspect the condition of the cuttings. If some copies have rotted, they must be removed and the newspaper replaced with a new one. Roots are formed after about 2 weeks.

How to root a purchased rose from the stem: the most effective ways

Most often, flower growers resort to several methods of rooting a bush rose, each of which, if done correctly, guarantees a good result.

Planting in pots

Rooting cuttings immediately in the ground allows you to get a strong and resistant to negative external influences bush, therefore this method is used by flower growers quite often. For planting, small pots, cut bottles or disposable cups up to 0.5 liters are suitable, while each shoot will need a separate container.

Before using the container, it is recommended to disinfect it with a solution of potassium permanganate or pour it over with boiling water to kill possible pathogens on the walls.

A mixture of the following components is ideal as a substrate:

  • 2 pieces of garden land;
  • 2 parts rotted compost;
  • 1 part washed coarse sand.

The soil obtained at home must be warmed up in an oven or microwave at a temperature of 102-104 degrees or steamed over boiling water for disinfection.

The scheme for planting cuttings in the ground includes several stages:

  1. A drainage layer is laid at the bottom of the pot or other container (expanded clay, small pebbles, crushed stone or red brick are suitable).
  2. The container is filled with a substrate that needs to be slightly compacted.
  3. A small hole is made in the ground with a stick, pen or spatula, into which the stalk is buried up to 1-2 buds.
  4. The ground must be moistened, and the cutting itself must be covered with a jar or a cut plastic bottle to create greenhouse conditions.
  5. The pots are placed on a light windowsill, preferably on the south side, in a room with a temperature of 18-25 degrees Celsius.

A process that appears in the axil of the leaf will indicate successful rooting. It is possible to plant cuttings in a permanent place at home when strong young shoots are formed on it.

How to germinate cuttings in water

Sprouting in water is the easiest way to root cuttings. A florist will need:

  • Transparent glass jar;
  • Purified or spring water;
  • The soil prepared according to the scheme above.

You should not use tap or boiled water for germination - in such an environment, the cuttings will begin to rot and will not give good roots. For disinfection, charcoal or activated carbon can be added to the container.

Only the lower part of the cuttings should be immersed in water so that the shoot tissues do not begin to deteriorate. The water should be changed daily for 2-3 weeks, and the container itself should be placed on a light windowsill. The appearance of root rudiments will be indicated by white growths at the cut site, however, planting in the substrate is advisable only after the appearance of strong root processes.

Germination in potatoes

You can also root cuttings of roses at home in potato tubers, where an ideal environment is created for future seedlings.Replenishment with starch, useful carbohydrates and minerals in combination with high humidity and protection from negative external factors can significantly increase the survival rate of planting material.

You need to use high-quality potatoes, it should not be lethargic, affected by rot or other diseases. It is optimal to use large or medium-sized tubers, from which it is recommended to first remove all eyes to prevent sprouting. Disinfection in a weak solution of manganese with further drying will not hurt either.

The scheme of rooting a rose from a bouquet in a potato is as follows:

  • A hole 2.5-3 cm deep is made in the tuber using a screwdriver or other tool;
  • A stalk is inserted into the potato, previously soaked in the rooting solution so that the lower bud is inside;
  • On a site protected from the wind with good lighting, they dig a trench 20 cm deep and about 30 cm wide;
  • A layer of coarse sand is placed at the bottom of the trench, moistened and covered with a universal substrate mixed with peat;
  • The potatoes are laid out in a trench, observing the distance between individual tubers of 15-20 cm;
  • The landing site is covered with a layer of soil, well watered and mulched.

Greenhouse conditions will facilitate rapid root growth, so each stalk should be covered with a jar or cut bottle and ventilated as needed. After about 1 month, the planting material will begin to take root - at this time it is recommended to gradually increase the airing time, accustoming the seedlings to open ground conditions. In autumn, young bushes must be planted in a permanent place, and covered with spruce branches for the winter to protect them from frost.

How to root cuttings in a bag using the burrito method

The burrito method is a rather unusual and exotic way of germinating cuttings, which, nevertheless, is used by flower growers:

  • Prepared cuttings are soaked for 1 day in purified or spring water;
  • Then the planting material must be carefully removed and laid out on the newspaper;
  • The edges of the newspaper are folded from the ends, and the cuttings are wrapped in a bundle;
  • If necessary, a layer of paper is added, there can be 3 or 4 of them;
  • The bundle is abundantly moistened with water, the excess must be allowed to drain to prevent the newspaper from completely soaking;
  • The wrapped cuttings are placed in a dark plastic bag and left in a room where the temperature ranges from 18-20 degrees Celsius.

You need to inspect the cuttings about 1 time a week; it is recommended to change the newspaper or re-moisten the newspaper if necessary. If individual cuttings have darkened or began to rot, they should be thrown away, leaving only healthy planting material.

The shoots in the places of the cuts will begin to form in about 14 days, but they should be planted on the site only after the formation of strong roots.

Planting cuttings of roses from a bouquet to a permanent place

The most suitable time of the year for planting these flowers is late spring or early summer. Planting roses with cuttings in the fall does not make sense, since the plant will freeze in the ground.

The landing site must be sunny, where there are no strong winds. The soil should not deepen too much, as excessive water will drain into it during rain.

In the selected area, it is required to form pits of a suitable size, the diameter of which is equal to the root system. It is recommended to fertilize the soil, after planting the soil must be watered. Sprinkle the ground with sawdust or peat on top. Cover the seedlings from direct sunlight.

Seedling care rules

Fertilizer will be required for seedlings that have grown more than 12 cm. For this, complex solutions or infusion of herbs, mullein are used. For the plant to be strong, in the first year, you must immediately cut the flower buds after they appear.This will allow the rosebush to put all its energy into forming healthy stems.

In advance, you need to take care of the shelter of the plant for the autumn-winter period. This will save the bushes from frost. Some specimens should be excavated and stored in a cool, damp place. So roses from a bouquet will appear in the garden again and again, delighting not only the gardener, but also everyone around.
