A barrel for burning garbage in the country: how to do it yourself

Dacha pastime is overshadowed by the problem of garbage disposal. It is not always possible to throw away rapidly accumulating waste. Many summer residents found a way out and created a do-it-yourself oven for burning garbage. The simple design helps not to accumulate waste on the site.

Consider what a homemade stove is, what are the options, what are the advantages and disadvantages of waste incineration.

Do-it-yourself stove - ways

In order to become a utilizer designer, you do not need to have construction skills and knowledge. The main desire and availability of materials necessary for the construction of the device.

The easiest option is to incinerate the waste in a conventional metal drum mounted on a refractory surface. Its advantage is simplicity. But this is not the best solution, below we will explain why. With a little work on the barrel, you can get a comfortable and aesthetically pleasing design.

The ways

The number of options for creating a recycler depends on your imagination. In practice, there are 3 options for running:

  • variations from an old metal barrel;
  • using an old heater;
  • brick oven.

Let's consider all the options in order.

We modernize the barrel

To implement the project, you will need the simplest drawings. Here is an example of the proposed design.

To create it, you need to stock up on the following materials:

  • barrel;
  • a steel pipe 1.5 m long and 11.5 cm in diameter;
  • grinder with an emery wheel and a circle for metal;
  • electric drill;
  • electric jigsaw with metal files;
  • steel rod - 5 m;
  • metal profile - 5 m;
  • wire - 200 gr.;
  • bolts - 6;
  • nuts - 6;
  • loops - 2;
  • welded mesh - 1 m2;
  • handle with a wooden attachment;
  • drill for metal surfaces with a diameter of 1.2 cm;
  • self-tapping screws (wide caps) - 20;
  • spark arrestor, 11.5 cm diameter fasteners;
  • fireproof paint and brushes (can be replaced with a spray gun)
  • degreaser.

The process of constructing a furnace consists of the following stages:

  1. Make a door. First, draw a line to secure the door, and then carefully cut along the line with a grinder. It is important not to touch the side walls.
  2. Pick any corner of the cut and make a hole. It should be on the cut and close to the wall. This is the point for the jigsaw.
  3. Insert a jigsaw saw into the hole and slowly move around the edge to cut the bottom.
  4. Make holes in the resulting door. They will be required to allow air to pass through.
  5. You put an emery disc on the grinder and clean the entire structure.
  6. Cut the metal profile into 5 equal segments and from the resulting pieces you build the goats, consisting of 2 crosses and a connecting rod. The profiles must be joined at a 90 ° angle. The profiles are bolted together.
  7. First degrease the barrel and then paint. Also tidy up the goats. Apply several coats of paint to the elements. Each next layer should be applied after the surface is completely dry.
  8. After the elements are completely dry, collect the goats. Remember to put a washer under each nut. The structure must be strong enough to withstand the oven and the debris it contains.
  9. Install the handles and hinges using self-tapping screws and a screwdriver.
  10. Draw a hole for organizing the smoke outlet - a chimney. On top of the future garbage oven, apply a circle corresponding to the diameter of the tin pipe.
  11. Cut the resulting circle with a grinder, making the semblance of petals - about 10. Bend each petal outward.
  12. Install a chimney on the petals, they should be in the inner part of the structure. Screw the chimney to the petals with self-tapping screws.
  13. Insert the grate inside the barrel and fix it.
  14. Fasten the cover with clamps or bolts.

Stone stove

This incinerator has a longer service life than other homemade waste heat exchangers, and it looks more attractive. To build a small stone structure, you need 115 bricks. If you wish, you can make it much larger, but then the amount of building material will have to be increased.

All further actions are performed according to the following instructions:

  • Even before starting work, you will need to clear the place where the brick stove will be installed, it is enough to prepare an area of 70 by 100 cm in size.
  • Further, it is necessary to sprinkle this place with sand, it is enough to lay out a layer of 5-8 cm.
  • After that, the first layer of brick is laid on the sand so that gaps of about 15 cm remain between the stones, this is done to ensure traction. For the first row, you will need 8 bricks, three pieces will go to the lower and upper parts, and one piece to the sides. Bricks are laid without mortar.
  • At this stage, you need to lay a lattice on the structure, if there is none, then you can use metal rods. The performance of the stove will not change from this. But the fittings must first be welded or fastened together with iron wire. It will be enough to connect 14 lobe rods and 3 cross rods.
  • Now you need to make an ash pan. To create it, you can use a sheet of steel, bricks or cement mortar.
  • In the second row, 8 bricks are again laid, but now they are already collecting two bricks each, and the correct dressing must be observed.
  • They continue to lay the bricks, still leaving small gaps and without using mortar.
  • The 12th row must be made continuous. Install a metal cover on top of it. The brick stove is ready to use.

If you wish, you can build a stove not in the form of a square, but make it in the form of a cylinder or a circle. The production itself takes place according to the same scheme, that is, air gaps are necessarily installed, and the grate is also mounted. Having even a little construction experience and having prepared the necessary material, you can make such a convenient and practical incinerator at your dacha.

Safety

When creating and using any option for a garden stove, remember the safety rules:

  • do not dispose of garbage in dry, hot or windy weather;
  • place the stove away from other buildings;
  • do not leave the combustion process unattended;
  • keep small children away from the utilizer;
  • place fire extinguishing agents near the stove;
  • use the device only in a suburban area.

Remember that fire is dangerous. Negligence can lead to unpleasant consequences.

Types of incinerators

In summer cottages, various home-made garbage stoves are often observed.

Interesting! Furnaces can be out-of-date refrigerators, non-working stoves and many other items.

There are such varieties:

  1. Stationary structures that are distinguished by good spaciousness and convenience. They usually have significant dimensions, weight, and are located in one place. Allows you to get rid of large volumes of waste.
  2. A mobile design, it is also called portable or mobile. Suitable for occasional use and for handling light debris. Such varieties are distinguished by their compactness, they save space. They can even be transported in the trunk of a car, they are lightweight.

It is interesting! The smallest in size also have their disadvantages, inconvenience in operation. It is necessary to dispose of all collected litter in several approaches, and large garbage must first be crushed.

What does the law say about the use of barrels for incineration?

Russian legislation is gradually approaching the laws of developed countries of the world. The use of a barrel as a utilizer is prohibited by article 20.4 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation and the Federal Law "On the Protection of Atmospheric Air".

Burning waste, especially of plant origin, is harmful to the environment. If neighbors report you, you will have to pay a fine in the amount of 2,000.00 - 3,000.00 rubles. In the event of a fire, the amount of the fine will increase depending on the damage caused.

It is more expedient to make compost from the accumulated plant debris. And to entrust the disposal of other types of waste to special services.

Incineration of garbage on site is allowed only if all legal regulations are observed.

Criterias of choice

It is much more convenient to incinerate the collected waste than to store it in large containers and wait for the garbage truck to arrive.

According to the law, it is forbidden to place natural waste in public containers intended for storage of solid household waste. For this reason, summer residents and owners of private plots have to dig out compost pits. But over time, this space becomes overloaded and begins to create an unpleasant odor that neighbors may complain about.

Therefore, it is advisable to develop a suitable method for rapid disposal

There are several main types:

  1. Burning at the stake.
  2. Storage in a metal garden container and subsequent incineration.
  3. Disposal in a special oven.

The easiest way is to start an open fire. But this option is unsafe, since in windy weather there is a risk of provoking a fire. In addition, the burnt-out land will remain dead for a long time, and there will be no opportunity to plant vegetables or fruits there.

Storing garbage in various containers with subsequent incineration is the safest option, but it has disadvantages:

  1. Barrels are usually thin-walled and will soon deteriorate from fire.
  2. They rot.

For these reasons, it is necessary to equip the territory with incinerators. This is the most optimal option that will not violate fire safety requirements.

When buying an incinerator, you need to pay attention to the main parameters:

  1. Care should be taken to ensure that the metal is thicker than 2 mm. The thicker the steel, the longer the device will last. If you use thin sheets, then after a few months of use, the stove will burn out.
  2. The most convenient designs are those in which there is a hole and doors so that you can clean out the burnt ash.
  3. The incinerator must have all the fire safety characteristics. If sparks escape from the structure or coals fall out, then there is a risk of provoking a fire. You will need to check with the seller about this nuance.
  4. The top cover is designed not only to limit the emission of fire, but also to protect against the weather.
  5. There are models with a built-in chimney, due to this, combustion occurs much faster due to increased draft.

Advantages and disadvantages of drum incineration

The advantages of burning garbage in a barrel include:

  • the ability to control the strength of combustion;
  • no open fire;
  • mobility of the barrel-stove.

There are also disadvantages to the design:

  • the described method of disposal is harmful to the environment;
  • detection of the use of the stove on the site will entail penalties;
  • burning garbage in a barrel is a fire hazardous procedure;
  • due to high temperatures, the structure wears out quickly.

As good as the idea of using a drum to dispose of your trash is, it's not perfect.

Method to apply a tainted barrel

The installation of a leaky barrel can be carried out on bricks. It is advisable to choose for these purposes such a site where it will be best to rake ash. The result is a kind of blowing. The holes in the bottom of the container act as a grate. As a result, you get a ready-to-use design.

If your summer cottage is a small area or there is a fire hazardous place next to it, then it is advisable to cover the barrel with a flame with a sheet of iron. Then the eggs will not fly to the sides. When the bottom is burnt out, instead of grate bars, you can use twigs that are inserted through the container.

You need to cross a couple of twigs. They will act as grates on which compressible waste is laid out. The air draft will be carried out from below, which is required for garbage disposal.

Adjusting such a flame is very easy. If necessary, it can be quickly extinguished. And the barrel can be located in any convenient place. In addition, large branches can be used when incinerating waste.

The presented work on the disposal of garbage in the country is considered the simplest. When disposing of waste in bulk, watch out for sparks. For such work, it is better to choose wet and cloudy weather. Then it will be more difficult for the flame to spread, and all conditions for the combustion of garbage will be created in the container.

All information about heated barrels for a country shower can be found here.

It is very important to take care of your personal safety. Therefore, be sure to wear glasses so that sparks do not damage your eyes. Put gloves on your hands to avoid thermal injury. You will also make yourself a stick-poker, which you will wiggle the branches. Such activities will contribute to their final combustion. It is advisable to always have a fire extinguisher on hand. If a situation occurs that the flame spreads to dry grass and bushes, then you can localize the fire in time.

Principle of operation

Despite the fact that the principle of operation of industrial furnaces is practically no different from conventional devices of an alternative type, some citizens do not fully understand the principles of their operation.

By its structure, the furnace is a body in which the combustion process takes place. Under the influence of high temperatures, the molecular bonds of the substances from which the objects are made are destroyed, which makes it possible to neutralize their dangerous properties.

Actually, immediately before lighting the flame and placing the waste in the furnace, they are mixed with sand until a homogeneous mixture is obtained. This process prevents excessive heat build-up and incomplete combustion of the waste. An important condition is the homogeneity of the garbage, since a strictly defined temperature is set for each type of material.

As the mixture heats up with a mechanized burner, hydrocarbon molecules are burned, posing a threat to nature. Some models have two or more circuits for additional combustion of carbon in gases that are generated from primary combustion.

For the first time, an industrial furnace for burning wood waste was created, and later, on the basis of such a device, the model range was significantly expanded. Thanks to the development of modern engineering, a large number of additional models have appeared.

The main advantages that a biological waste incinerator and many others can boast are:

  • Compact dimensions;
  • High indicators of environmental friendliness;
  • Simplicity and low cost of operation;
  • The ability to use combustion energy to heat air, water, etc.

For some organizations and firms, the use of ovens brings additional benefits. In recent years, the oven for incineration of documents has become quite popular, since it can be used to guarantee confidentiality at the enterprise. In order to purchase a suitable option, you need not only to know about the availability of such devices, but also about their characteristics, in order to buy the best!

Manufacturing options

There are several options for such designs. An incinerator for a summer cottage or a personal plot can be made of:

  1. Metal barrel.
  2. Used gas bottle.
  3. Cutting large diameter steel pipe.
  4. Concrete well ring.
  5. Bricks.

The most popular and widespread, due to the simplicity of manufacture and economy of such structures, are stoves from old iron barrels. By orientation in space, they can be both vertical and horizontal. Below is a photo of a horizontal waste incinerator.

When starting to design such a stove, you should think about where it will be located in your personal plot. It is not necessary to place it in front of the facade of the building, this will ruin the overall appearance of the local area. A garden oven from a waste incineration barrel is an auxiliary unit; it is better to place it in the backyard of the site, closer to the forest or fence, away from the eyes of neighbors and passers-by.

Vertical oven: materials, instructions

Before figuring out how to make a waste incinerator, you need to prepare a number of materials:

  • garden shovel
  • chisel
  • a hammer
  • a welding machine and 4 legs (in the situation if the metal barrel is placed on a surface in which it is impossible to dig a hole)
  • electric drill
  • 200 liter barrel
  • stand bricks

Next, you should start creating a furnace:

  1. The top cover of the barrel is removed with a chisel and hammer.
  2. Using an electric drill, several holes are drilled in the bottom cover, which are responsible for air draft during the combustion of garbage.
  3. A medium-sized hole (about a meter) is dug with a shovel, on which, for traction, the barrel is installed with the holes down. You can use bricks to increase stability.

This method of making the stove is easier than the horizontal version, but the design is less durable.

More complex designs

A more complex waste incinerator can be used not only for waste disposal, but also as a heating boiler. It is equipped with a tubular water heater and a vapor vacuum pump that supplies water for heating or domestic needs.

Purification of smoke makes such a boiler environmentally friendly and safe for the atmosphere, since harmful combustion products are absorbed and bound by water in the chimney. A boiler filled with sawn branches, old rags and other household waste will provide the house with heating for a day. Thus, incineration of waste in a special boiler allows not only to clean the area of debris, but also to save fuel.
