How to make do-it-yourself mole repellents from plastic bottles and other materials

Wildlife lovers who do not want to destroy ecosystems also suffer from underground diggers - moles. But what if you don't want to kill the animal, but there is no time to evict the "guest" beyond the 101st kilometer? You can try to scare moles away from your area instead of trapping them. Mole repeller is easy to buy in the store, but many summer residents prefer to do it themselves.

DIY anticrot # 1

The electronic diagram below will help you. Various off-the-shelf electronic devices are also used. As emitters, they usually use emitters of the EMX-309L1 type and the like. You can also use small-sized electromagnetic relays, speakers and small-sized electric motors from old tape recorders, players and telephones.

Devices for electronic mole repeller

Scarers made of tin

Scarers made of tin
Favorite pastime in the country is to drink beer. And after the beer there are many cans. They can be used to craft a beer can repeller.

The simplest option is to slide the can over a metal pin. A light tin will sway under the gusts of wind and knock on the pin. A little more difficult: hang the cans over the section on the ropes so that they knock against each other. The hardest option is to make a turntable.

Turntables made of such material are small and very light, but sonorous. A spinner from a beer can is made in the same way as from a plastic bottle: blades are cut out in it, which are bent outward.

A very interesting version of the homemade "tin" scarer in the photo below.

Such a mole repeller already requires certain skills in assembling mechanisms. The upper "bowls" catch the wind and ensure the rotation of the windmill. Pieces of tin, tied at the bottom, knock on a metal post dug into the ground.

Plastic bottle options

The simplest version of a homemade repeller is a bottle, put on a pin. Also suitable for empty beer cans. The pin must be pushed into the ground so that sound and vibration are transmitted to the mole passages.

On a note!

Iron transmits sound better than wood.

The most difficult option is a windmill from moles. To make it, you will need a one and a half liter beer bottle.

Important!

The bottle must be of the "classic" beer shape. That is, with a narrow elongated neck.

In addition to the bottle, you need good scissors, a marker, a self-tapping screw with a thread that does not reach the cap, a nail, an awl and a stick for a windmill. With the maximum complexity of creating such a mole repeller from a plastic bottle, visual diagrams and drawings do not exist. There is only a very clear video.

  1. The bottom of the bottle is cut off along the horizontal line that is on all plastic bottles.
  2. The cut bottom is turned upside down. The bottom has the shape of a five-pointed star. The areas that need to be cut are marked with a marker: from the border of the central circle strictly in the middle of the "ray" and from the middle of the central circle along the hollow between the "rays". This part also needs to be cut off. It turns out that half of the "ray" is cut out.
  3. The operation is repeated on all "rays". The propeller is ready. It remains only to punch a hole strictly in the center of the circle. The hole should be with perfectly straight edges and a diameter larger than the provided screw.
  4. Insert a self-tapping screw into the resulting propeller with a head "inward" and screw it in the center of the bottle cap until the thread ends. To facilitate the task of screwing in the cap, you first need to make a small hole. On the inside of the cover, the self-tapping screw can be secured with a nut for reliability.
  5. In the lower part of the neck of the bottle, strictly along the center line, make two holes for the nail. The holes should be strictly opposite each other.
  6. Take an almost finished windmill and fix it on a wooden pole. Stick the pole into the ground in the garden.

In the wind, the propeller emits a rather nasty crack, which moles are afraid of. The advantages of a wind turbine are that it will work in any direction of the wind.In fact, this is an ordinary weather vane.

It is not difficult to simplify your life and drive the mole out of the garden. To do this, you need to make a spinner from a plastic bottle to scare off moles without any special frills, mounted on a pin. A diagram of such a turntable is below.

To enhance the effect, a metal pipe is buried in the ground below the level of the mole passages. A pin with a ratchet from moles is lowered into this pipe and the pin is fixed in the pipe so that it does not dangle. The spinner works almost like a wind turbine, but depends on the direction of the wind. Sometimes the wind cannot rotate the repeller if the direction of the air masses is different.

Strategic bomber B-52 against moles

It seems to me that noise revolvers from moles for pest control at their summer cottage do not look very aesthetically pleasing and can be improved. At the same time, children can be involved in useful joint activities. Based on this, we have invented together a three-engine plane to repel pests.

To implement the idea, it took eight plastic bottles. A master class on making crafts is as follows:

  1. For the fuselage, a tall and thin bottle with straight sides is better suited. The selected colors of the source material will decorate the repeller.
  2. The wing motors used two small bottles with the neck cut off.
  3. The wing blanks were cut out of bottle number four, as in the photo. Marker marked the places of incisions for fastening the wings in the fuselage.
  4. Notches were made on the fuselage and the hull of the motors for the installation of the wings, they are also marked with a marker. Their length corresponds to the width of the attached wing, excluding the length of one notch on the wing.
  5. Now bend one notch on the wing. It becomes narrower and goes into the slot on the aircraft body or engine. We insert the wing into the corresponding slot. The folded part on the wing straightens and fixes the connection. We move the wing along the slot on the body so that it is held on both sides. To fix the structure, we pass an electrode or wire through the fuselage and wing. We also mount the second wing and motor.
  6. At the rear of the fuselage, three slots must be made for the tail and rear wings of the aircraft. Their length is determined by the size of the latter according to the above scheme.
  7. The photo shows the tail and rear wings of the aircraft. Mounting slots are marked with a marker. The tail is made of two layers of folded plastic, and the wings are single-layer.
  8. Cut out three screws from the bottoms of the bottles according to the pattern marked with a marker.
  9. A self-tapping screw and a washer are required to secure the center screw. In the center of the screw, drill a hole slightly larger in diameter than the self-tapping screw.
  10. The plug is screwed onto the neck of the fuselage container. The screw is first put on the self-tapping screw, then the washer. The self-tapping screw is wrapped in a cork.
  11. The propeller blades on the wings can snag the wing, so four washers are required.
  12. Before screwing the screws into the motors on the wings, it is better to first drill the holes in the latter.
  13. The tail and rear fenders are mounted in the same way as the front ones.
  14. Now it is necessary to determine the center of gravity of the model and in this place drill a through vertical hole in the aircraft body for installation on a metal bar. As in assembling the simplest turntable from a plastic bottle, a copper wire stop should be mounted on the pin. A washer must be installed between the stop and the aircraft body.

Gardener Tips

There are many tips on the net, but not all of them are effective, and some are even dangerous:

  • Flooding passages with water from a garden hose. With an extensive network of tunnels, flooding will turn the site into a swamp.
  • Introduce the exhaust from the car into turns. The method is dangerous for the entire microfauna of the site - microorganisms necessary for cultivated plants. May be harmful to pets and small children.
  • Poison from boiled wheat and poison. Moles are not interested in plant foods, so the method is ineffective.
  • Domestic cats are excellent mole hunters. Perhaps such a domestic hunter will not be able to remove the entire colony of moles, but it will help significantly.
  • Perhaps the best advice is to think ahead. Arrange a fence, set up traps. Determine the place where to carry the caught moles, increase their chances of survival.

As you can see, there are various folk methods that allow you to remove moles from the site: you can plant plants that are unpleasant for the pest, install mechanical repellents and traps. In special cases, poisonous substances are used, but you need to be careful and weigh everything well. A surefire way to prevent intrusion is with a mesh barrier.

It is not necessary to kill moles. This animal is a necessary part of natural balance. It eats insect pests in plural quantities and repels rodents. But, if the gardener does not intend to put up with this, then the folk methods of how to get the moles out of the site once and for all, described above, will come in handy for him.

In the second year, several moles were born. We moved to my well-groomed beds from neighbors and actively began to destroy the roots of beets, cabbage and other vegetables. They do not feed on plants, but destroy beds and lawns in the process of hunting for mice, worms and insects in the soil. I will tell you how to get rid of moles from the site and what means other summer residents use.

Alarm clocks

Alarm Mole Repeller
It is very easy to make a mole repeller out of ordinary cheap battery-operated alarm clocks. Alarm clocks are set at different times and placed in jars with screw caps. The lids are sealed and the cans are buried in different places in the garden. Moles cannot stand the sounds of the alarm clock constantly ringing out from under the ground and leave the site.

The second option with an alarm clock: place it in a half-meter pipe, dug in vertically. Holes are drilled in the bottom of the pipe for better sound propagation. This is what this pipe looks like.

The alarm clock is fixed on a wire so that it can be easily reached.

On a note!

Of all mole-repellents, alarms are one of the most effective methods. Better only a scarer from the radio and speakers, but this type requires special knowledge.

Details of

Instead of the BA1 telephone capsule of the TK-67-NT type, similar capsules of the TA-56M, TA-56, TON-2 or TG-7 type with a winding resistance of about 60 ohms can be used. Diodes, capacitors and resistors will fit any type.

Diodes, capacitors and resistors will fit any type. Any npn transistor will do, but better with minimal voltage drop between collector and emitter. In this case, the radiated power of the sound signal will be higher without increasing the current consumption of the mole repeller.

The D1 chip of the K561LE5 type can be replaced with a foreign analogue of the CD4001A, and of the K561IE16 type with the CD4020B chip.

"Three sources and three components" of moles, birds and snakes

Everyone loves the singing of birds, it is interesting to watch the snake in the circus and it is curious to look at the mole in the picture. It would seem, what do moles, birds and reptiles have in common? First, the bad thing: we don't like all of them as uninvited guests. Those who read this do not need to explain why. Now for the good: all these animals are afraid of noise!

Suppose that they cannot agree with each other and do not attack all at once. However, there are folk remedies that help get rid of all of the listed pests in the garden indiscriminately. For those who have friendly relations with birds, we offer an article on how to make a birdhouse with your own hands. Also see how you can build a feeder for birds.

Biological characteristics of the pest

The common mole, like the hedgehog, belongs to the order of insectivores. Already from the name of the group it is clear that he cannot eat potatoes and other underground parts of plants.

With a weight of 130 g, the body length reaches 15 cm. It feeds exclusively on insects and for this purpose, at a depth of 10-50 cm, with its powerful forelimbs, it digs a system of underground passages. Nest equips at a depth of up to 2 meters. In the same place, in the dug labyrinth, he finds food for himself: earthworms, insect larvae and other arthropods.

In the photo, the system of moves of a mole underground

In compensation for low vision, he has phenomenal hearing and smell. Like all animals, it loves silence, therefore, with a strong sound effect, it leaves the developed territory. People take advantage of this weakness. Plastic spinners against moles and other homemade scarers made from scrap materials are used.

Benefits of using a turntable

In the process of hunting, the animal is capable of digging a site even in a short period of time. A spinner from a bottle to scare away moles will scare him away and protect existing crops.

Interesting! From experience, some summer residents know that underground inhabitants do not tolerate various noises.

For example, it can be the sounds of an alarm clock, knocking on metal, plastic crackling. Since the task of destroying the guests is not set, the trap will allow you to solve the problem in a humane way.

Printed circuit board

Due to the lack of the possibility of manufacturing a printed circuit board for a mole repeller using chemical technology, a mechanical method was used to remove sections of copper foil from foil-clad fiberglass.

The location of the radio components on the printed circuit board of the mole repeller is shown in the photo below.

The appearance of a printed circuit board for production by a photochemical method and the location of radioelements are shown in the photo below.

The board can be made of 1.5 mm thick fiberglass foil on one side.

A visitor to the site, who introduced himself as San Sanych, kindly provided his version of the rodent repeller PCB, wired in a graphic editor for the Sprint-Layout 3.0R PCB layout, for which many thanks to him.

What is required for work

The advantage of a plastic bottle repeller is that you need a minimum set of tools and materials. Everyone can work with them, and buying them is not a problem at all. You can see for yourself. Here is a list of everything you need:

  • plastic bottle;
  • steel bar or wooden stick;
  • utility knife or scissors;
  • drill with drill (in some cases it is not required).

That's the whole set. Are you surprised? Not worth it, because for all its simplicity, the mechanism works flawlessly. You just need to connect it all into one device.

Note! The device is automatic, but only works from the wind. In calm, windless weather, it will be simply useless.

general information

A large number of moles appear in gardens in the first half of summer. This is due to the fact that the upper earthen layer of forests and meadows becomes scarce and depleted. And garden partnerships and summer cottages with their fed "fat" land teeming with all kinds of living creatures, like a magnet, attract moles.

During a short hunt for its food, the mole can dig the entire area up and down, while spoiling the garden, beds with crops or a beautiful lawn. To prevent this from happening, you need to know how to get rid of the uninvited guest. If you do everything consistently, a positive result will be unambiguous and the mole will leave the area where he is not welcome.

It is believed that moles are afraid of unpleasant odors. As a result, some summer residents water the garden with carbide and kerosene, scatter rotten fish over the site and use smoke bombs. However, such methods are unlikely to suit good gardeners - is it possible to have a good rest on an area where it constantly stinks of rotten meat and kerosene ?! Therefore, people are looking for alternative ways to fight.

Attention!

Industrial enterprises have developed and are producing various kinds of electronic scarers. But the price for them is quite high.

Experienced summer residents know that moles cannot stand all kinds of noise. They dislike a metallic knock, the crackle of plastic, or the ticking of an alarm clock. It was these features of the character of the animal that served as the theoretical basis for the creation of all sorts of repellents from moles.

Comparison of homemade and industrial repellents

Of the industrial mole repellers, ultrasonic ones are the most popular. But according to reviews, not all of them are effective. They speak negatively of Russian-made ultrasonic mole repellents and praise Japanese ones.

According to homemade scarers, it is noted that moles are little afraid of windmills and turntables, sometimes making a hole right next to the pin. Ringing alarms or the constant playing of modern music to animals can effectively get rid of moles from the site.
